SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Dalby 9.2.13 – Race 2
Stewards concluded an inquiry into the circumstances for MISS ANTAGONISTIC being checked rounding the home turn. After taking evidence from B. Newport (Skilful Pat), G.Geran (Made’n’Ready) and A. Taylor (MISS ANTAGONISTIC), stewards found that MISS ANTAGONISTIC was initially disappointed for a run to the inside of NOT WITHOUT SIN (M. O’Brien) approaching the home turn, which resulted in MISS ANTAGONISTIC shifting out across the heels of that runner and making contact with SKILFUL PAT and becoming unbalanced. At the same time NOT WITHOUT SIN shifted out slightly and tightened the running of MISS ANTAGONISTIC. As stewards could not attribute blame to any one rider, the incident was reported any no further action taken.
Race 1: Hotel Australia Class B Handicap 1500m
1st –Billy Goat 2nd – Double Top 3rd – Classic Country 4th – Dame Judi
Correct weight was delayed to allow C. Kearney to view the official patrol film to establish if there were grounds to protest against the winner BILLY GOAT. After viewing the official patrol films C. Kearney declined to proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared on the judges placing’s.
TISANI LAD (T. Serjeant) stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Trainer’s representative R. Auld was advised that a warning would be placed on TISANI LAD.
IMA LITTLE EXCITED (R. Payne) and BACKSTREET JACK (L. Tilley) hung out rounding the turn out of the home straight.
MORE COINS (B. Newport) made the turn out of the straight wide and was held up for clear running for a short distance rounding the home turn.
Near the 550m BACKSTREET JACK improved up on to the heels of I’M LITTLE EXCITED which had commenced to weaken and was checked.
I’M A LITTLE EXCITED and MR DEEKAY (A. Taylor) raced wide throughout.
On entering the home straight, BILLY GOAT shifted in despite the efforts of the rider and brushed DOUBLE TOP, BILLY GOAT then continued to lay in under pressure for the remainder of the straight.
A post race veterinary examination of MORE COINS failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey A. Taylor with regards to the performance of MR DEEKAY which finished a distant last. A. Taylor stated the gelding races in a forward position, however in riding forward in the early stages she was unable to cross to the fence and was forced to race wide throughout. She added that her mount resented the kick back from the track and was under pressure from the 800m. She further added that MR DEEKAY was kicked slightly behind the barriers however there was no evidence of external trauma. A Post race veterinary examination of MR DEEKAY revealed an integument on the near fore leg with no lameness detected.
Race 2: Miles IGA/Chaplain Butchery/Murilla Foodworks Class 2 Handicap
1200m
1st - Tornazaky 2nd – Currawee Lass 3rd - Proto 4th – Chilldown
PROTO (W. O’Connell) raced wide for the majority of the race.
Stewards inquired into B. Powell’s riding of CURRAWEE LASS from entering the home straight, of particular concern were the reasons that B. Powell looked to his outside shortly after straightening and his vigour over the final 150m. B. Powell stated that the mare was dropping back in distance today and felt that his mount had lost some of its dash towards the end of its races and for this reason rounding the home turn he looked to his outside briefly to ensure that he would not be boxed in between runners if the outside runner shifted in. He added that when pulling his whip through a short distance later it became entangled in his reins for some distance before he was able to remove his whip and fully pressure his mount. Trainer W. Baker stated that the distance of today’s event was short of CURRAWEE LASS’ preferred distance and that the mare had had a setback in its preparation due to an eye injury. He added that he was satisfied with today’s performance, adding that the horse will appreciate stepping up to a more suitable distance. Stewards in noting the explanations, advised B. Powell that his ride had come under the notice of stewards and that he must at all times ride in a manner that does not leave him open to question.
L. Tilley the rider of SILKY SKILLS reported that his saddle shifted back slightly at the start and shifted further during the race. He added that as a result of the saddle shifting the breast plate was very tight around SILKY SKILLS neck which he believed had a bearing on the mares breathing. Trainer P. Webster advised stewards that the mare was a ‘wind sucker’ and that he had previously had the mare scoped without any abnormalities detected. He confirmed the comments of L. Tilley that the breast plate was high up on the horses neck which he felt had contributed to the post race veterinary findings. In light of the evidence presented and the performance of the mare, stewards took no direct action against SILKY SKILL other than to report the circumstances and have P. Webster report any abnormalities or findings with regards to the mares breathing. A post race veterinary examination revealed SILKY SKILLS to be exhibiting a respiratory noise.
Race 3: Murilla Cup Open Handicap 1200m
1st – Fear No Other 2nd – Canadian Joy 3rd – Cash In A Hurry 4th – Mirabeau
Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to establish if I’LL RULE had been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from jockey G. Geran, M. Kropp the trainer of I’LL RULE and viewing the official patrol films, it was established that as the start was affected, I’LL RULE had turned its head into the adjoining barrier stall which resulted in the gelding being unable to jump with the field and lose significant ground. As this was a result of the barrier manners of I’LL RULE, stewards declared the gelding a starter and gave correct weight on the judges placing’s. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that I’LL RULE would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again.
CANADIAN JOY (T. Serjeant) was slow to begin.
CHEQUE FOR FREEDOM (S. Fawke) laid in in the middle stages and raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of I’M THE ONE, which finished a distant last, revealed the gelding to have swelling in the off fore tendon. Trainer M. Goodwin will be advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for I’M THE ONE before being permitted to race again.
Race 4: The QLD Hotel QTIS Maiden Handicap 1050m
1st - Anjuree 2nd – Captain Spur 3rd – Call Back 4th – Easy Boy
ANJUREE (B. Newport) reared backwards in the enclosure and when being mounted on the track ran backwards and made contact with the enclosure fence. ANJUREE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the barriers and was cleared to race.
Correct weight was delayed when W. O’Connell (EASY BOY) and G. Geran (ZAHARM) notified stewards that they were of the view their respective mounts may have been been denied a fair start due to their barriers being slow to open and their gates springing back and striking their mounts. After taking evidence from all riders, the starter and viewing the official patrol footage, stewards were unable to establish that any of the barriers had been slow to open or had sprung back and impeded any runner. They also took into account the respective position that horses had in the run and where they finished, therefore stewards declared correct weight on the judges placing’s.
EASY BOY and ZAHARM were both slow to begin.
CAPTAIN SPUR (L. Tilley) over raced in the early stages and raced wide throughout.
Apprentice R. Payne reported that JULIE’S ROCKET threw its head back shortly after the start, striking her in the face.

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to establish if DESERT LAIR had been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from apprentice T. Serjeant, trainer’s representative of DESERT LAIR, Mrs S. Schrader and viewing the official patrol films, it was established that as the start was affected, DESERT LAIR which had been fractious in the barriers, reared as the start was effected and lost significant ground. As this was a result of the barrier manners of DESERT LAIR, stewards declared the gelding a starter and gave correct weight on the judges placing’s. Mrs S. Schrader was advised that DESERT LAIR would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again.
SHANGHAI (D. McMaster) began awkwardly and lost ground.
DRIFTING SPIRIT (J. Kehoe) was slow to begin.
