OUGHBRED RACING BOARD
STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 27th APRIL 2002.
MACKAY TURF CLUB

STEWARDS – G.Hargraves (ch), B.Chestermaster.

WEATHER - Fine TRACK – Good
RAIL – True position.

GENERAL – From Mackay Turf Club Meeting Sat 13th April 2002. Trainer R.Walsh
advised stewards that he had Ivory Walk scoped after said meeting with the
result being that the gelding was showing no abnormalities.

As D.Lloyd was indisposed he was replaced as the rider on the following
horses.
Race 2 JAAZEIRO – P.Williams.
Race 3 CELESTIAL HAZE – C.Schumacher.
Race 4 NOTORIOUS LADY – R.Pujolas.

Race 1 XXXX Class 6 Hcp 1500m 7 Strs.

JUST SMOKIN’ was slow away.

As the start was affected MORGAN’S GREY jumped in the air and lost ground.

MORGAN’S GREY was inclined to hang in throughout. A subsequent vets
examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Jockey D.Jones and trainer C.Dawson were questioned over the riding tactics
employed on TONTO MURPHY, which usually raced back in the field. D.Jones
stated he was instructed to go forward in today’s event and elected to lead
and then try and give the gelding a breather in front but didn’t anticipate
taking as long to reach the lead as he did. Trainer C.Dawson confirmed the
instructions were to go forward from a wide alley as he thought there
wouldn’t be any speed in today’s race and was happy for David Jones to
persist in attempting to lead. He also stated that the same instructions
were applied for its previous start but the gelding jumped awkwardly on that
occasion and ended up racing just off the pace. Mr Dawson was advised that
if any dramatic changes were to be made in relation to riding tactics he was
to inform stewards.

Race 2 Seven Mackay Open Hcp 1050m 6 Strs.

RATHER SMART was slow away.

DIVIOT shifted in near the 700m and bumped NONO.

App. L.Attard was cautioned for allowing his mount DIVIOT to shift in near
the 100m hampering RATHER SMART.

When questioned over the seemingly disappointing performance of DIVIOT App.
L.Attard stated that after he was unable to lead the gelding was under
pressure from the 500m and failed to finish the race off. Trainer S.Attard
stated that the gelding needs to have his own way in front to perform at its
best but today was pressured in front by the leader NONO. A subsequent vets
examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. DIVIOT was swabbed.

Race 3 Payne Print Maiden Hcp 1050m 9 Strs.

ITAMBU was crowded at the start by CAMRY DRIVE and CELESTIAL HAZE both of
which shifted ground.

GREY ‘N’ MISTY jumped in at the start and bumped LADY LUCS.

Soon after the start LADY LUCS was momentarily tightened for room by GREY
‘N’ MISTY, which was taken in by STRATEGIC MOVE.

Jockey M.Attard reported that HIGH LADY got its tongue over the bit in the
middle stages and choked down.

Race 4 Chubb Security Class 3 Hcp 1050m 6 Strs.

HEXHAM jumped awkwardly.

App. L.Attard was reprimanded for permitting his mount REBEL ROYAL to shift
in near the 400m when not clear of NOTORIOUS LADY which had to be checked.

Race 5 Mackay Toyota Class 1 Hcp 1250m 8 Strs.

GERTRUDIS and TOP ROAD were both slow away.

Near the 900m TOP ROAD shifted in and tightened the running of MISS ZANARDI.

Soon after TOP ROAD shifted out and hampered LET’S RAW.

Near the 750m EL BE DOUBLE YOU which was racing ungenerously shifted out and
PRIDE OF SEQUALO shifted in tightening the running of both MYSTICAL and TOP
ROAD which resulted in TOP ROAD having to be checked. As a consequence LET’S
RAW, which was following TOP ROAD, also had to be checked.

Near the 600m EL BE DOUBLE YOU again shifted out and hampered MYSTICAL.

All winners and DIVIOT were swabbed.
