CLUB Mackay Turf Club STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 22/03/2003

STEWARDS PANEL: G. Hargraves (ch), B. Chestermaster, T. Moloney.

WEATHER – Fine TRACK - Good RAIL – Out 3m 900m to winning post.

GENERAL – Stewards interviewed Trainers T. Cook and J. Manzelmann in relation to a vehicle accident en route to Rockhampton races on Monday 10/02/2003 in which the horses MY PONDEROSA and HARRY JUNIOR were involved. Subsequently both horses have performed poorly in races. Both Mr Cook and Mr Manzelmann were advised that both horses would be barred from racing until they both pass barrier trials and vet certificates of fitness are produced. Both were advised of their obligations under Australian Rule of Racing 140 (a).

RACE 1: XXXX CLASS 3 HCP 1500M.

HIP HIP HURRAH over raced in the early stages.

HIP HIP HURRAH made contact with the running rail near the 800m.

RACE 2: COCA COLA CLASS 5 HCP 1250M.

Near the 200m NEW YORK TIMES shifted in and inconvenienced DARALOE.

When questioned over the performance of KEA LEAH Jockey W. Binder stated that the mare had trouble keeping in touch in the early stages which he attributed to the quick tempo of the race and the fact KEA LEAH had a big weight and was coming back in distance from its previous start. He also added that he felt the mare might have been sore. His comments were noted. A post race vet inspection of KEA LEAH failed to reveal any abnormalities.

When questioned over the performance of DARBEAR Jockey C. Schumacher stated that after having a nice run throughout the mare was under pressure a long way from home and was most disappointing. A post race vet inspection failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer M. Crouch stated he felt DARBEAR may be coming to the end of its preparation and advised that he would consult with the owners to see if they wanted to freshen the mare for one more run or spell her. His comments were noted.

RACE 3: BATTLEY BUCKS BASH OPEN HCP 1250M.

MONO BLUE threw its head in the air and missed the start.

MINI ME was briefly held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

When questioned over the improved performance of MONO BLUE Trainer J. Manzelmann stated that the gelding was second up after being spelled when it was sore in the loins. He also added that whilst MONO BLUE finished well back behind CHIEF BULLI at its previous start the gelding finished strongly after missing the start in a race where it wasn’t suited by the distance. His comments were noted.

RACE 4: BOOMERANG HOTEL MAIDEN HCP 1050M.

When mounting Jockey M. Young suffered an attack of cramps and was unable to fulfil his engagement on SIGY LASS. He was replaced by Ms J. Pujolas. As a result the starting time for this race was delayed slightly.

VANDEBISK was unable to be loaded and was a late scratching by order of the stewards at 3.50pm. All monies invested on VANDEBISK are to be refunded and deductions of 8c the win and 11c the place were declared on the face value of winning tickets. Mrs. L. Van Den Bosch the trainer of VANDEBISK was advised that the filly would have to pass a barrier trial prior to starting again.

SIGY LASS lost ground at the start when it jumped awkwardly and made heavy contact with BLACK ASSAULT.

RACE 5: HOT/FM CLASS 2 HCP 1050M.

Jockey D. Lloyd was unable to make the weight on ODDS ON and was replaced by J. Felix. Due to the special circumstances no further action was taken.

M. Young was passed fit to take his ride on SECRET WATCH.

INTEGRA ROYAL and NORTHERN WATCH were slow away.

RED BAY was trapped wide throughout.

When leading OUR LAA DEE DA broke down near the 400m and was retired from the event. In taking evasive action STEGASAURUSES shifted out taking RED BAY, BURGEON, INTEGRA ROYAL and ODDS ON very wide on the home turn.

Near the 200m INTEGRA ROYAL when being ridden hard shifted in abruptly and had to be restrained and straightened. INTEGRA ROYAL then shifted out and hampered BURGEON.

Passing the 200m RED BAY shifted out under pressure and hampered INTEGRA ROYAL.

OUR LAA DEE DA fractured its off fore fetlock and was humanely euthanised.
