GENERAL:

Stewards today opened an inquiry into the reason for Jockey D. Evans failing to fulfil his rides on ROSLYN DRIVE, CLASSIC WINNER, HOPE BURNS ETERNAL and OBAN at the Emerald Jockey Club meeting on 1st July 2006. ROSLYN DRIVE and OBAN were late scratchings from the meeting as no other rider was available. Jockey D. Evans was found guilty of a breach of A.R. 118A and fined a total of $200.

Late Riding Changes:

When Jockey P. Cullen was indisposed, the following substitutions were made: Race 1, M. Carson to ride COP ON TO US; Race 8, C. Spry to ride IMPUNITY. Jockey Cullen provided a medical certificate in support of his inability to fulfil his engagements and a clearance to ride again.

After arriving on course Apprentice D. Carrigg was examined by the official paramedic. Acting on advice from the ambulance officials, stewards ordered that Apprentice Carrigg be stood down from her further engagements. The following substitutions were made: Race 2, Apprentice L. Dillon to ride SAMKAN; Race 5, Apprentice C. McIver to ride SMARTY JOHNS; Race 6, Apprentice R. Mason to ride NATURAL ENERGY. Apprentice Carrigg was advised that she must provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

As Jockey B. MacDonald was to be overweight, Jockey N. Day was substituted as the rider of DUSTY DANIEL. Jockey MacDonald was fined $100 under A.R. 120(b).

Race 1: Robert Peel Jewellers Maiden Handicap - 1050m
1st - SILENT REALM 2nd - ONALAR 3rd - MR ROMANELLI 4th - FLASHY DIVA

TEA MOSS (D. Lloyd) began awkwardly and made contact with the hindquarters of POLITICAL SPIN (N. Day).

Making the turn near the 900 metres MR ROMANELLI (A. Merritt) commenced to lay and when straightened by its rider momentarily inconvenienced FOXYCAT (M. Cant).

In the straight FOXYCAT (M. Cant) laid in.

Race 2: Woodman’s Mitre Ten QTIS 2-Year-Old Handicap - 1050m
1st - DIRTIERE 2nd - LET’S NOT 3rd - MY GREEN MACHINE 4th - KEY ALTO
At the start LA FRIAND (A. Merritt) shifted out and made heavy contact with HENRYHAWK (N. Day), which was taken out onto SAMKAN (Apprentice L. Dillon), which in turn shifted out and bumped DIRTIERE (I. Toward). LA FRIAND then raced ungenerously for a short distance.

Race 3: XXXX Gold Class 1 Plate - 1500m
1st - LION KINGDOM 2nd - BUKA BOY 3rd - MOSTA HOUSE 4th - HANOI’S MEMORY

ANNIES ATTITUDE was a late scratching, at 1.03 p.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. No betting deductions were required.

MR KISEKI (Apprentice P. Edwards) raced wide throughout.

Over the concluding stages SHAKERATO (Apprentice T. Bannon) was inclined to lay in under pressure.

Shortly after the winning post Jockey C. Spry was dislodged from CAUGHT A YABBIE and suffered a harmless fall.

Following the race it was reported that HIGH MOUNTAIN (G. Kliese) had bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr S. O’Dea was advised that HIGH MOUNTAIN was barred from competing at licensed meetings for a period of three months under A. R. 53A.

Race 4: WIN Television Class 6 Handicap - 1500m
1st - NEWTOWN LAD 2nd - OUR QUICK TESS 3rd - DUSTY DANIEL 4th - PIMPALA PLAYER

At the start SUPER IMPRINT (Apprentice L. Dillon) was tightened for room between ATRIUMS (D. Lloyd), which shifted out, and DUSTY DANIEL (N. Day), which shifted in.

As Jockey B. MacDonald was to be overweight, N. Day was substituted as the rider of DUSTY DANIEL. Jockey B. MacDonald was fined $100 under A.R. 120(b).

SUPER IMPRINT (Apprentice L. Dillon) and COOKSTOWN FRANKIE (M. Barnham) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 200 metres CAP JUAN (D. Craven) shifted out abruptly and momentarily hampered DICTATE PLAY (D. Evans).

Race 5: Dowdens Pumping Sales & Service QTIS 3-Year-Old Class 3 Handicap – 1250m
1st - JACHAZE 2nd - JAZZOOM 3rd - MIRAMAX 4th – SMARTY JOHNS

After arriving on course JACHAZE was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Apprentice L. Dillon, the rider of MIRAMAX which finished third, to view the official video films. After viewing the films Apprentice Dillon decided not to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared.

JACHAZE (D. Evans) was slow to begin.

RAPID RUBY (M. Cant) and FINE SEAS (Apprentice R. Mason) raced wide throughout.

At about the 800 metres AT THE SUMMIT (N. Day) was held up and unable to obtain clear running to the inside of ALYCION (D. Griffin).

Near the 200m SMARTY JOHNS (Apprentice C. McIver) stepped in momentarily and hampered MIRAMAX (Apprentice L. Dillon). Apprentice McIver immediately stopped riding and attempted to relieve the pressure.

A post-race veterinary examination of JACHAZE (D. Evans) revealed that the mare had sustained a minor laceration to the left stifle.

Race 6: Daily Mercury Class 2 Handicap - 1250m
1st - SONOVABEACH 2nd - SHIFTING SANDS 3rd - PERFECT DISGUISE 4th – DESERT STAR

NEWMARKET (B. MacDonald) commenced to overrace from the 850 metres and near the 800 metres was hampered by LEA LISA (Apprentice C. McIver), which shifted in slightly. NEWMARKET continued to overrace and in turn shifted in and hampered PERFECT DISGUISE (D. Griffin). Apprentice McIver was advised to show more care in similar circumstances.

Race 7: Extreme Workforce & Employment Mackay Newmarket Handicap - 1250m
1st - ELMESSIAH 2nd - TREASURE THE KWILA 3rd - TEMPLE JACK 4th - WESTERN BRACE

After being placed in the barriers TEMPLE JACK (D. Johnston) became very fractious.

ALLEGRO SPIRITOSO (M. Carson) began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with TOWN PLAYER (J. Stephens). Shortly after this TROPIQUALO (C. Spry), which began awkwardly, was obliged to race in restricted room when ALLEGRO SPIRITO shifted out slightly and made contact with the hindquarters of RUSTIC RAMBLER (Apprentice P. Edwards), which was turned inwards, resulting in ALLEGRO SPIRITO and TROPIQUALO being severely inconvenienced.

In the straight TEMPLE JACK (D. Johnston) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

A post-race veterinary examination of ALLEGRO SPIRITOSO (M. Carson) revealed that the mare had sustained a small laceration of the near front cannon.

Race 8: Boomerang Hotel North Queensland Derby 3 & 4-Year-Old Class Handicap - 1800m
1st - DANPERO 2nd - PACIFIC SEA 3rd - MAGIC SOIREE 4th - CHARNOOK

As the start was effected SCUTT (G. Kliese) began awkwardly, knuckled over, dislodging its rider, Jockey G. Kliese. BROWNSVILLE GIRL (M. Cant) was unable to avoid the fallen SCUTT, blundered and dislodged its rider, Jockey M. Cant.

At the 1200 metres DANPERO (D. Evans) overraced, placing its rider at a disadvantage in attempting to settle his mount.

Leaving the 1000 metres LEICANAVALANCHE (D. Griffin) made heavy contact with one of the the riderless horses. LEICANAVALANCHE shifted out in consequence and inconvenienced EMMBOWEN (J. Stopps), which was taken wider.

Jockey C. Spry, the rider of IMPUNITY, was found guilty of a breach of A.R. 118A, in that after weighing out he changed his body protector. Jockey C. Spry was fined $100.
