As G Michaels was indisposed, he was replaced as the rider of SAM THE EAGLE by D Evans.
G Michaels was advised that he must produce a medical clearance prior to his next race riding engagement.

CHICO’S STAR (M Usher) jumped out at the start making contact with MISS FELICIA (S Watkin) which lost ground.

M Cant, the rider of JACK FELL DOWN dropped his whip near the 150m.

Race 2: MBB QUEENSLAND OPEN H’CAP – 1500M.
1st – CAMBOOYA 2nd – DINI WHO 3rd – YA WAHEED 4th – JON RON

As apprentice B Young was to be over weight as the rider of ROYAL REFORM he was replaced by senior rider M Cant as no other apprentice was available.

JON RON (M Cullen) was slow to begin.

WISE THOUGHTS (S Watkin) which had a tendency to lay out near the 400m, shifted out and had to be steadied of the heels of RAHERA (W Morris).

Approaching the 200m, ROYAL REFORM (M Cant) had to be restrained for a short distance when tightened for room between RAHERA (W Morris) which shifted out slightly and ATRIUMS (M Dale) which shifted in under pressure. M Dale, the rider of ATRIUMS was reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances.

Race 3: A E SMITH AIR CONDITIONING CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1250M.
1st – CORBETT KING 2nd – LITTLE LEGED 3rd – MIDDLE EAST 4th – BROWNS PLAINS

As apprentice B Young was to be over weight as the rider of MOST ASSUREDLY, he was replaced by senior rider M Cant as no other apprentice was available. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice B Young was fined the sum of $200.00 under AR92(12).

The start was delayed when MOST ASSUREDLY loosened its off hind plate and had to be replated.

The start was further delayed when LITTLE LEGEND (M Usher) became fractious in the barriers resulting in the barrier gate of BROWNS PLAINS (M Dale) opening, with that horse walking out and having to be reloaded, as a precautionary measure LITTLE LEGEND was backed out of the barriers and reloaded.

VETUBRA (M Cant) stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground.

DECANT (W Morris) lay out rounding the home turn shifting wider on the track.

COOKS TOWN FRANKIE was declared a late scratching at 10.55am due to no suitable rider being available.

LINK HOGTHROB was declared a late scratching at 3.05pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice. W Pomfrett, the trainer of LINK HOGTHROB was advised a veterinary certificate of soundness must be provided prior the horses next start.

AMALFI’S REVENGE (M Usher) raced ungenerously for the majority of the race.

When questioned into the apparent awkward action of POPEY DOYLE, D Evans, the rider of POPEY DOYLE stated that in his opinion the gelding failed to stretch out when placed under pressure. L Wright, the trainer of POPEY DOYLE, stated that a post race report from its rider indicated that the horse travelled well in the early stages but had failed to stretch out properly when placed under pressure but was at a loss to report anything further. The clubs veterinary surgeon reported that a post race examination of POPEY DOYLE revealed that the gelding appeared to be stepping short in its action but was not showing any signs of soreness.
Mr Wright gave steward’s a further undertaking to advise them should anything come to his notice in the near future that may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance today.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
