SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
As Jockey G Baker was indisposed, Stewards permitted the changes as per the summary.
Race 1: DAILY MERCURY CLASS 6 PLATE 1250M:
1st – ROMANTIC JOURNEY 2nd – COP THAT 3rd – HOWATCH 4th – HYPER FIRE
DUHAABA underwent a veterinary examination at the barriers and was passed fit to start.
Shortly after the start HYPER FIRE (W. BINDER) blundered.
Near the 1000m PROVENZANO (C Whiteley) had to be steadied when tightened for room between DUHAABA which shifted in, and ROMANTIC JOURNEY (App A Coome), which shifted out slightly. D Missen rider of DUHAABA was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
FLYING TEST (D Green) raced wide in the early stages.
A post race veterinary examination of DUHAABA revealed the gelding to be sore in the near hind leg. Trainer G Patterson was advised he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to it’s next start.
When question regarding the performance of PROVENZANO, jockey C Whitely stated that the gelding raced like a tired horse. Trainer W Pomfrett stated that the horse would be sent for an immediate spell. A post race veterinary examination of PROVENZANO failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 2: WIN TELEVISION CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1250M:
1st – EXPENSIVE HOBBY 2nd – FROG 3rd – ROGERRAB 4th – PRANK CALLER
FROG (N Patchett) was tightened on jumping away between LOVE SNACK (D Missen) and LADY IN THE SUN (D Simmons), both of which shifted ground.
Near the 1150m SO STEP IN LINE (J Felix) and RONTGEN (C Beets) were tightened for room between ROGERRAB (C Whiteley) which shifted in and SHE’S EXCITING (W. Binder) which was taken out by WATER CAPTAIN (A Coome).
SO STEP IN LINE and LOVE SNACK raced wide for the majority.
Near the 600m RONTGEN improved up onto heels of WATER CAPTAIN and had to be steadied.
Near 400m RONTGEN had to be steadied off heels of WATER CAPTAIN. RONTGEN shifted in momentarily tightening CRESWICK (T Bannon).
Approaching the 200m RONTGEN had to be checked when attempting a narrow run between LOVE SNACK which shifted out slightly and WATER CAPTAIN which shifted in when laying in. As a result of being checked, RONTGEN shifted in tightening CLANDESTINE CAPER (M O’connell) which had to be steadied.
LOVE SNACK had a tendency to lay in over the final 200m.
CRESWICK was held 150m to 50m clear running.
Race 3: YOUNG REAL ESTATE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1050M:
1st – RERAISE 2nd – SILENT MAYHEM 3rd – HORBURY TERRACE 4th – LIQUIDATE
As P Cullen was to be overweight, stewards permitted N Patchett to be the replacement rider for SILENT MAYHEM. At a subsequent enquiry P Cullen was fined the sum of $100.
D Simmons was dislodged from BELLA ROAD behind the barriers suffering an injury. BELLA ROAD was declared a late scratching at 2.39 pm. BELLA ROAD then escaped from the clerk of the course and galloped some distance and jumped the fence at the back of the 1500m chute sustaining injuries. BELLA ROAD was euthanised on humane grounds.
RIVER HILLS LAD, which broke through the barriers and galloped a considerable distance, was declared a late scratching at 2.44pm. Trainer W Pomphrett was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.
Stewards ordered any bets placed prior to 2.39 pm be subject to deductions of 8c in the face value of the win bets and 10c in the face value of all place bets. Stewards also ordered any bets placed between 2.39pm and before 2.44 pm were subject to deductions of 2c in the face value of all win bets and 3c in the face value of all place bets.
LIQUIDATES which also broke through the barriers, was quickly restrained by its rider, and was examined by the clubs veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
HONG KONG CALLING (D Masdil) was tightened on jumping away between HORBURY TERRACE (C Whiteley) and ICE CREAM CHARLIE (C Beets) both of which shifted ground.
BILLY THE MOUNTAIN (J Felix) and HORRBURY TERRACE raced wide throughout.
Race 4: COCA COLA CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1050M:
1st – ZANZIDIYM 2nd – BORROWED HOPE 3rd – KNIGHT’S GEM 4th – DISIZ LE PEST
Passing the 600m ZANZIDIYM (D Missen) improved up onto the heels of NOTHING TO CHANCE (W Binder) and had to be steadied.
KNIGHT’S GEM (C Whiteley) was held up for clear running rounding the turn and in the early stages of the straight.
Race 5: MERRY CHRISTMAS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1050M:
1st – PETREL 2nd – ROXBURY BOY 3rd – TWO SEASONS 4th – SUPER SHADOW
As jockey D Green was declared for TWO SEASONS and FRACTURED, Stewards permitted D Evans as the replacement for TWO SEASONS.
The start was delayed when TWO SEASONS proved difficult to load. Trainer S Kendrick was advised the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate.
VIE AGRO (App.S Miller) and FRACTURED (D Green)were both slow to begin.
Approaching the 600m KRYSTALATE (D Masdil) improved onto the heels of BLOOMIN LOVELEY (C Beets) and had to be steadied.
TWO SEASONS (D Evans) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
JIMEOIN (M O’connell) laid in under pressure in the straight and near the 100m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SUPER SHADOW (C Whiteley).
JIMEOIN and SUPER SHADOW raced wide for the majority
RACE 6: HAPPY NEW YEAR CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1500M:
1st – SIMPLY AMAZING 2nd – CARRY THE BRAVE 3rd – MADIFYOUDONT 4th – SATZERO
BEN BUCKLER (M O’connell) was slow to begin.
Passing the 900m DANCING SAILOR (R Hall) shifted out bumping BEN BUCKLER.
Rounding the home turn KLOSTERS (W Binder) which was endeavouring to obtain a narrow run between BEN BUCKLER (M O’connell) which had a tendency to lay in, and GROMM (C Beets), had to be checked approaching the 200m when that run closed as a result of GROMM shifting out.
CARRY THE BRAVE (P Cullen) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Passing the 200m, GROMM had to be steadied off the heels CARRY THE BRAVE, which shifted out to improve. P Cullen was reprimanded.
Near the 50m MADIFYOUDON’T (D Green) was obliged to shift out abruptly after improving onto the heels of SIMPLY AMAZING (C Whiteley).
BEN BUCKLER and DANCING SAILOR (R Hall)both raced wide throughout.
RACE 7: XXXX GOLD CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1500M:
1st – EBOR 2nd – PERSHINKO 3rd – DANDY KAT 4th – AIR WAVES
The start was delayed due to EBOR being difficult to load. Trainer S Kendrick was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.
DETENTION (D Missen) was crowded on jumping away between JAZZAAR (M Speers) and KINGSLEY (D Green) which shifted in.
PROUD ZAHA (W Binder) raced wide early and was obliged to race forward and obtain a position on the fence.
Near the 900m, COUNTY WILKES (J Felix) had to be steadied off the heels of WALKING ON FIRE (P Cullen) which shifted in. KINGSLEY which was following had to be steadied and shifted in hampering PLEASE TOMEETYA (C Whiteley).
Passing the 200m WALKING ON FIRE (P Cullen) had to be steadied when tightend for room between KINGSLEY (D Green) and JAZZAAR (App.M Speers) which shifted in slightly. Apprentice M Speers was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift
DANDY KAT (A Coome) and AIR WAVES (R Hall)both raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DETENTION, jockey D Missen stated that after being tightened for room shortly after the start the horse settled in it’s customary rearward position. He further added that the horse had a tendency to lay in for the majority of the event. Trainer D Hansen stated the horse was having its third start for his stable and that the horse might perform better with its races spaced. He further added that the horse’s best form had been on rain affected tracks. He undertook to have the horse undergo a full veterinary examination and advised that he would notify stewards of anything that may come to light in the following days. Stewards noted their explanations. A post race veterinary examination of DETENTION failed to reveal any abnormalities.
