Race 1: Harrup Park Country Club Bishop’s Cup Class 3 Handicap – 1250 metres
1st – EAGLEDANCE KID 2nd – MAD MUSIC 3rd – PURGEROUS 4th – IGOTITFROMMYMUMMA
PURGEROUS (T. Bannon) was slow to begin.
Near the 1000 metres BIG ETHAN (N. Patchett), which had a tendency to lay in, shifted in and bumped MAD MUSIC (G.Cullen), which was taken in onto SHE’S EXCITING (J. Felix).
BIG ETHAN raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned about the apparent improved performance of EAGLEDANCE KID (T. O’Hara), trainer Mr I. Shaw explained that gelding had failed to handle rain-affected and sand tracks at its recent starts. He said that the gelding appreciated today’s good track conditions. The explanation was noted.
Race 2: Meng Group Maiden Plate – 1250 metres
1st – DISTANT ZONE 2nd – DUTCH PICCOLO 3rd – EMPIRE FLIER 4th – REDRAN
VEIN GLORY (N. Patchett) began awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 200 metres VEIN GLORY (N. Patchett) was obliged to shift in and away from DISTANT ZONE (T. O’Hara), which was laying in, and subsequently was disappointed for a run to the inside of REDRAN (J. Felix), which was racing greenly, and as a consequence Jockey N. Patchett was obliged to steady his mount and alter course.
On returning to scale Jockey J. Felix reported that REDRAN raced greenly in the straight.
DISTANCE ZONE (T. O’Hara) laid in for the majority of the straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage. When questioned about the racing manners of DISTANT ZONE (T. O’Hara), trainer Mr I. Shaw explained that the gelding had raced tractably in its recent trials and he was at a loss to explain the reason for the horse’s performance today. Mr Shaw undertook to experiment further with changes to the horse’s gear.
Race 3: BMD Group Class 6 Handicap – 1050 metres
1st – SNEAKY SQUIRREL 2nd – SUTTON CHIEF 3rd – HOWATCH 4th – ROSCO’S CIRCUS
SNEAKY SQUIRREL (J. Felix) began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with BLAST MASTER (T. Bannon).
A post-race veterinary examination of BLAST MASTER (T. Bannon) revealed that the gelding was showing signs of having colic. Trainer M. Bannon was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
Race 4: Peter Gray Memorial Maguire Racing Class 6 Plate – 1500 metres
1st – NAPPER TANDY 2nd – SEBASTIEN 3rd – COCKAIGNE 4th – POSTING
COCKAIGNE and JERRYLEE (D. Missen) were slow to begin.
In the early stages HUNTERS MOON (J. Felix) raced wide.
Approaching the 400 metres NAPPER TANDY (G. Cullen) shifted out to improve and made contact with HUNTERS MOON (J. Felix), which in turn made contact with the hindquarters of POSTING (T. Bannon).
Jockey N. Patchett was reprimanded under A.R.137A(4)(c) regarding the use of his whip on COCKAIGNE prior to the 100 metres.
Race 5: Blacks First National Real Estate Open Handicap – 1250 metres
1st – SUPER SHADOW 2nd – MIGHTY MITE 3rd – ZULU DAWN 4th – MOSTA HOUSE
INCINERATOR (T. O’Hara) was slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn ZULU DAWN (N. Patchett) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
Near the 100 metres ZULU DAWN (N. Patchett) shifted in under pressure.
Jockey G. Cullen reported that in the early stages MIGHTY MITE over-raced and consequently raced in a forward position, which was in contrast to its usual racing pattern.
Race 6: XXXX Gold Class 1 Handicap – 1500 metres
1st – PROM KNIGHT 2nd – CHABAL 3rd – LUCYROX 4th – GALAXY STALKER
The start was delayed when the Official Starter realized that only 7 of the required 8 barriers were closed. At this stage only half of the field had been loaded into the barriers and accordingly the starter undertook an inspection to ensure that all horses were loaded into their correct stalls. Once satisfied that this was so, the remaining horses were loaded into the barriers and the start was effected.
The start was further delayed when SURE OF HEART (M. Elliott) proved difficult to load.
Shortly after the start CONCERT CAFÉ (T. O’Hara) was crowded for room between LUCYROX (D. Missen) and ABINDAH (S. Watkin), clipped the heels of LUCYROX (D. Missen), blundered and lost ground. As stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any one rider was responsible for the incident, no further action was taken. However, Jockey D. Missen and Jockey S. Watkin were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
In the early stages ABINDAH (S. Watkin) over-raced.
In the middle stages and in the home straight LUCYROX (D. Missen) had a tendency to lay in.
From rounding the home turn until the 150 metres PROM KNIGHT (T. Bannon) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
SURE OF HEART (M. Elliott) raced wide throughout.
Jockey N. Patchett was reprimanded under A.R. 137A(4)(b) in regard to the use of his whip on CHABAL.
Post-race veterinary examinations of STRATPLAN (D. Simmons) and CONCERT CAFÉ (T. O’Hara) did not reveal any abnormalities.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
