Race 1: The Daily Mercury Maiden Plate – 1500 Metres:
1st – JOYFUL LADY 2nd – SKYDECK 3rd – HEINOUS 4th – FRESHWATER

HOYO (D. Simmons) refused to jump and took no part in the event. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that HOYO must pass two barrier trials before being permitted to race again.

In the early and middle stages SKYDECK (T. Bannon) over-raced.

Race 2: Pyro Dynamics Class 1 Handicap – 1050 Metres:
1st – COPACETIC 2nd – PREACHER MAN 3rd – LLAMRAI 4th – BIRNAM ROSE

Trainer O. Cairns and Jockey J. Felix were fined $100 each under A.R. 141 for presenting BECAUSE I CAN with the wrong saddle cloth.

The start was delayed when BECAUSE I CAN (J. Felix) proved difficult to load. Trainer O. Cairns was advised that a warning had been placed on the barrier manners of BECAUSE I CAN.

On jumping BECAUSE I CAN (J. Felix) and BIRNAM ROSE (M. Usher) bumped.

At the start PREACHER MAN (D. Simmons) was tightened for room between COPACETIC (D. Missen) and BIRNAM ROSE (M. Usher), which began awkwardly and shifted out.

LLAMRAI (N. Patchett) began awkwardly.

Near the 900 metres LLAMRAI (N. Patchett) had to be momentarily steadied when tightened for room by COPACETIC (D. Missen), which shifted in. Jockey D. Missen was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

BECAUSE I CAN (J. Felix) raced wide throughout.

Following the running of this race the track rating was upgraded to a Slow (6).

Race 3: Brown & Bird Maiden Plate– 1050 Metres:
1st – SECRET SAFARI 2nd – SUNSHINE LASS 3rd – GLAMAZON BELLE 4th – SEETHROUGH

GLAMAZON BELLE (D. Simmons) was slow to begin.

OPTIONAL ROCKET (J. Babarovich) was slow to begin and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that OPTIONAL ROCKET must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

Race 4: Fyna Panels Class 5 Handicap – 1050 Metres:
1st – FINE SHAKIRA 2nd – GALAXY STALKER 3rd – ROCKIN ROD 4th – FLYER BELLE

FINE SHAKIRA (T. Bannon) began awkwardly and lost ground.

Near the 400 metres PRINCE OF YODELLS (J. Felix) shifted in of its own accord on several occasions and made contact with the running rail.

Rounding the home turn FINE SHAKIRA (T. Bannon) was held up on the heels of ROCKIN ROD (D. Missen).

RED AURUM (D. Simmons) and FINE SHAKIRA (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.

When asked about the performance of PRINCE OF YODELLS, Jockey J. Felix explained that the horse travelled fairly throughout the event, however when placed under pressure approaching the 600 metres failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of PRINCE OF YODELLS did not reveal any abnormalities.

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a dead (5)

Race 5: Impact Plant Hire Class 2 Handicap – 1250 Metres:
1st – HUSSANA 2nd – CLEAR CONSCIENCE 3rd – REASSURING 4th – LION D’OR

SKYROCKET DREAMER (S. Watkin) was slow to begin.

At the 800 metres ADOPA (M. Usher) and HUSSANA (D. Missen) raced in restricted room to the inside of REASSURING (D. Jones), which shifted in slightly. Jockey Jones was advised to exercise more care.

Rounding the home turn CLEAR CONSCIENCE (N. Patchett) was held up on the heels of REASSURING (D. Jones).

Near the 200 metres ADOPA (M. Usher) raced in restricted room between REASSURING (D. Jones) and HUSSANA (D. Missen), which shifted in.

IRON CHARGER (B. Binder) raced wide throughout.

Race 6: Pioneer Lakes Class 3 Handicap – 1500 Metres:
1st – ELLEHRO 2nd – CHABAL 3rd – MOUBASSIN 4th – CREDINGTON

Jockey M. Usher pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 85B in that he accepted riding engagements for both ELLEHRO and TRAWLER. Jockey Usher was fined $100. Jockey D. Jones was substituted as the rider of ELLEHRO.

Shortly after the start TRAWLER (M. Usher) and SUPER CHOI (S. Watkin) were tightened for room between NORWEGIAN (D. Simmons) and MOUNT MAGIC (J. Felix), which shifted out.

Near the 200 metres MOUBASSIN (N. Patchett) attempted a narrow run where, in the opinion of the stewards, there was doubtful room, to the inside of I’M HOT (T. Bannon), which shifted in slightly, resulting in LEICA ZED (B. Binder), which was weakening, having to be steadied to avoid the heels of MOUBASSIN. Both Jockey Patchett and Jockey T. Bannon were reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

MOUNT MAGIC (J. Felix) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey J. Felix for the seemingly disappointing performance of MOUNT MAGIC. Jockey Felix said that the mare raced wide throughout the event and at no stage travelled comfortably. Jockey Felix added that when placed under pressure from the 600 metres MOUNT MAGIC failed to respond to his riding. Trainer O. Cairns informed stewards that she was of the opinion that the mare, which was having its first start over 1500 metres, may have failed to run the trip out. Ms Cairns added that the horse pulled up well following the event and she intends to continue with its preparation. The explanations were noted.

Jockey M. Usher, the rider of TRAWLER, was reprimanded under A.R. 137A(4)(b) for raising his whip above shoulder height.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
