Late riding changes/notifications

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer S. Kendrick for the late notification of Jockey D. Tanti as the rider of JET SURGE (Race 1) and Jockey D. Simmons as the rider of FLYBEFREE (Race 5).

Race 1: Maguire Breeding And Racing Class 4 Handicap – 800 metres
1st – JOHN’S SPECIAL 2nd – MAECENUS 3rd – ARRESTED FOR SPEED 4th – TYSON RULES

JET SURGE (D. Tanti) was slow to begin.

Approaching the winning post Jockey A. Coome, the rider of the winner, JOHN’S SPECIAL, relaxed on his mount and then when being challenged for the lead by MAECENUS was caught off guard and had to ride JOHN’S SPECIAL along to obtain first placing. Jockey Coome was severely reprimanded.

Race 2: Brown And Bird Maiden Handicap - 1100 Metres
1st – BROTHER BOB 2nd - FOREBODING 3rd – THE CONDUCTOR 4th – PESAMINO

Trainer D. Symons was fined $100 under A.R.59A for failing to produce the document of description for CANDENTE.

Trainer Mr J. Manzelmann was fined $100 under A.R. 59A for failing to produce the document of description for FULGORA.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey D. Tanti, the rider of THE CONDUCTOR which finished third, to view the official patrol films with a view to lodging an objection against BROTHER BOB (D. Simmons) being declared the winner. After viewing the films Jockey Tanti elected not to lodge a protest and correct weight was declared. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey D. Simmons was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 250 metres he permitted BROTHER BOB to shift in when insufficiently clear of CANDENTE (T. Bannon), which lost its rightful running. Following this incident CANDENTE shifted out and made heavy contact with THE CONDUCTOR. Jockey Bannon was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Jockey Simmons was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 NQ meetings, to commence at midnight on 12th May 2012, up to and including midnight 19th May 2012. In arriving at penalty stewards took into account Jockey Simmons’ good recent riding record and history of injuries which precluded him from riding. Jockey T. Bannon was cautioned regarding the standard of her evidence during the inquiry.

FULGORA (App. A. Hearn) began awkwardly.

Race 3: - Statewide Industries Class 6 Plate - 1200 metres
1st – EIGHT PIECES 2nd – HUSSANA 3rd – HERITAGE STAR 4th – IL CARDINALE

Near the 200 metres EIGHT PIECES (J. Babarovich), which initially had been held up, had to be eased across the heels of IL CARDINALE (T. Bannon), which shifted out slightly in an endeavour to obtain clear running.

Race 4: Tile & Carpet Court Class 2 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – DRAGONS BLETCH 2nd – DELAGO RAIDER 3rd – BREAK OF DAWN 4th – BEAR IN THERE

After being placed in the barriers DELAGO RAIDER (A. Coome) became fractious and reared, dislodging its rider. DELAGO RAIDER was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

DRAGONS BLETCH (T. Bannon) was slow to begin.

SARBI (J. Babarovich) was slow to muster speed.

Rounding the home turn DELAGO RAIDER (A. Coome) shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of BELLASPIRIT (App. A. Hearn), which became unbalanced.

Race 5: Woollam Constructions Class 4 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – SO PRETENTIOUS 2nd – DIAMONDCOWBOY 3rd – POWER SOURCE 4th – JIFF

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow connections of DIAMONDCOWBOY which finished second, to view the official photo finish print. Having done so, they were satisfied with the judge’s placings as semaphored, and stewards declared correct weight.

At the start VITREOUS (App. C. Pye) shifted out and made contact with SMOOTH DIAMOND (D. Tanti), which consequently lost ground.

Jockey A. Merritt reported that, although he had been instructed to ride the gelding back in the field, when JIFF began well from its inside barrier he elected to allow the gelding to assume a position in the lead without being placed under pressure.
Trainer J. Manzelmann reported to the stewards that the near hind leg of VITREOUS (App. C. Pye) had been galloped on during the race.

Race 6: News Express Mount Pleasant Class 1 Handicap – 1050 metres
1st – JAZZSHINKO 2nd – HIGH PAYOFF 3rd – SWEET VAMP 4th – RUSHATUS

Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SHEZA FALVELON, at 11.30 a.m. Stewards notified trainer Mr S. Kendrick that SHEZA FALVELON will be regarded as a late scratching as no other rider was available. Mr Kendrick was reminded of his obligation to ensure that in future he notifies scratchings by the prescribed time.

Trainer D. Symons was fined $100 under A.R. 54 for failing to lodge a stable return notifying that DIAMONDCOWBOY is now a gelding.

At the start RUSHATUS (S. Watkin) shifted in and made contact with JAZZSHINKO (App. A. Hearn), then shortly after the start shifted out and made contact with ALANDY LAD (App. C. Pye).

Jockey D. Tanti pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R.137(a) in that shortly after the start he permitted MANILLA COURT to shift in when insufficiently clear of ALLOVER (A. Merritt), which was taken in across the running of MONNIE (D. Simmonds), which was tightened for room between ALLOVER and ALANDY LAD (App. C. Pye) and had to be severely checked. Jockey Tanti was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 7 Queensland meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 12th May 2012, up to and including Sunday 20th May 2012. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Tanti’s guilty plea and his good riding record, and also took account of the severity of the interference suffered by ALLOVER.
