LATE RIDING CHANGES:

When Jockey L. Dillon was to be overweight and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Stewards will interview Jockey Dillon at the Rockhampton meeting on Thursday next, 25th October 2012.

Race 1: Supply Connections Class 4 Handicap – 1560 metres
1st – PERFECT HUSSEY 2nd – MACEDON 3rd – COMMANDING SPUR 4th – LADY PANIA

LADY PANIA (App. C. Pye), which had been fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin.

Making the turn near the 1400 metres LADY PANIA (App. C. Pye) shifted out and inconvenienced MACEDON (D. Evans).

In the early stages COMMANDING SPUR (T. Bannon) over-raced.

When asked about the seemingly disappointing performance of FORECLOSURE, Jockey
D. Missen stated that, in accordance with his instructions, he allowed the gelding to take up a forward position, as was its normal racing pattern, and FORECLOSURE travelled well in the early stages. Jockey Missen said, however, that when placed under pressure FORECLOSURE failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.

Race 2: Fergus Builders Class 1 Handicap – 1800 metres
1st – BEAUX STRATA 2nd - ALSOUQ 3rd – GOLD MACHINE 4th – SNOW CHOICE

At the start ROBERT’S GIFT (D. Evans) shifted out and bumped GOLD MACHINE (C. Whiteley), which had been slow to begin.

CLUES (G. Kliese) raced three wide in the early stages.

In the early stages BEAUX STRATA (A. Coome) raced ungenerously.

At the 300 metres SNOW CHOICE (J. Babarovich) shifted out slightly and inconvenienced ALSOUQ (T. Bannon), which in turn shifted out and made contact with GOLD MACHINE (C. Whiteley).

Close to the finish CLUES (G. Kliese) had to be steadied when crowded for room between SILVERZEN (M. Usher) and SNOW CHOICE (J. Babarovich), which had a tendency to shift in and away from ALSOUQ (T. Bannon).

Stewards offered Jockey D. Evans the opportunity to explain the performance of ROBERT’S GIFT, which performed below market expectations. Jockey Evans stated that the gelding began well and raced keenly in the early stages. Jockey Evans said further that although the pace was not fast in the middle stages, ROBERT’S GIFT did not finish off the race and in his opinion raced like a tired horse. Trainer Mr P. Camilleri was disappointed with the performance of ROBERT’S GIFT and said that he intends to spell the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination of ROBERT’S GIFT did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3: Mackay Building Supplies Maiden Plate – 1100 metres
1st – SHORT TRIP 2nd – DANGAR DIVA 3rd – RENOUNCE 4th – EXPLOSIVE STAR

At the start THE VERVE (J. Babarovich) was tightened for room between DUAN THEO (D. Evans) and SHORT TRIP (M. Usher), both of which shifted ground.

Shortly after the start EXPLOSIVE STAR (T. Bannon) stumbled.

Soon after the start DRUMKIT (App. A. Butler) shifted in, taking SPARKLING ZIZOU (C. Whiteley) in onto EXPLOSIVE STAR (T. Bannon), which was checked and lost ground.

Race 4: Caneland Central QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – VAL’S BULL 2nd – ROCKET A GOGO 3rd – HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS 4th – EDGEROI HOPE

HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS (A. Coome) raced three wide throughout the event.

Following the race Jockey T. Bannon expressed her concern in regard to LITTLE FAVOURS. Jockey Bannon was of the view that the filly may have been shin sore. Trainer D Symons agreed with the assessment of Jockey Bannon and advised stewards of his intention to spell the filly immediately. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

Race 5: Strathayr Benchmark 75 Handicap – 800 metres
1st – RED WINE BWANA 2nd – JOHN’S SPECIAL 3rd – KAMBOJA 4th – MAECENUS

JOHN’S SPECIAL (A Coome) began awkwardly.

HERITAGE STAR (M Usher) was slow to begin.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey A. Coome, the rider of JOHN’S SPECIAL which finished second, against RED WINE BWANA (G. Kliese) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 650 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official patrol videos and taking into account their own observations, Stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight when they found that, JOHN’S SPECIAL lost ground at the 650 metres as a consequence of interference caused by RED WINE BWANA, which shifted in at that point, however they could not be comfortably satisfied that the ground lost by JOHN’S HOPE exceeded the margin of 2.5 lengths between the two horses at the finish. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey G. Kliese pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that approaching the 650 metres he permitted RED WINE BWANA to shift in when insufficiently clear of JOHN’S SPECIAL, resulting in that gelding having to be checked and lose ground. Jockey Kliese was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 NQ meetings, to commence at midnight on 30th October 2012, up to and including midnight on 3rd November 2012.

Both EMMA KATE (C Whiteley) and MAECENUS (J Babarovich) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 50 metres SAINTLY DANCER (D Missen) was held up off the heels of KAMBOJA (T Bannon).

Trainer D. Symons was reprimanded under L.R.42 for failing to lodge an amended stable return for KAMBOJA and his failure to produce the Document of Description for the gelding (A.R.59A).

Race 6: Coll Plumbing Class 3 Plate - 1100 metres
1st – PACQUIAO 2nd – EXCEED ALL LIMITS 3rd – ULTRAZONAL 4th – ROCK MODE

Soon after the start ULTRAZONAL (A Butler) shifted in onto ROCK MODE (B Floyd) which was checked and lost ground.

Both HIGH PAYOFF (M Usher) and EXCEED ALL LIMITS (D Evans) raced three wide throughout the event.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by App. A. Butler, the rider of ULTRAZONAL which finished third, against EXCEED ALL LIMITS (D. Evans) being declared 2nd, alleging interference leaving the 300 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official patrol videos and taking into account their own observations, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any interference suffered by ULTRAZONAL as a result of EXCEED ALL LIMITS shifting in leaving the 300 metres caused ULTRAZONAL to check and lose its momentum. Accordingly, the protest was dismissed and the placings ordered to stand. Correct weight was declared.

Stewards intend to conduct an inquiry into an incident at the 150 metres where it appeared that HIGH PAYOFF (M. Usher) was checked when racing to the inside of ULTRAZONAL and EXCEED ALL LIMITS. However, due to App. Butler and Jockey Evans having left the course, the inquiry had to be adjourned. At a later date stewards will inquire into this incident and the reasons for App. Butler and Jockey Evans leaving the course contrary to a stewards direction.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
