Stewards inquired into the performance of World Quality. Trainer L. Wright could offer no explanation regarding the disappointing performance. He advised that the horse has since been transferred to another stable.

Stewards permitted trainer D. Symons to remove the tail chain from Cailin Mor after advising stewards he had removed this with RISA. Upon checking with RISA, it was established that Mr Symons had not removed the tail chain prior to acceptances for this meeting, and was subsequently fined $400. (AR140B)

Race 1: Carlton & United Maiden Plate - 1100m
1st Cloudy Night 2nd Risani 3rd Sole Survivor 4th- Pure Widow

Due to transport difficulties, trainer C. Thompson arrived late on course 30 minutes prior to this race.

DAZZLING MAGIC refused to load and was declared a late scratching at 1.03 pm.

CONDAMEERA was fractious in the barriers and injured jockey D. Simmons, and was subsequently scratched at 1.05 pm. A warning was placed on CONDAMEERA regarding its barriers manners.

Subsequent to the event all monies invested on DAZZLING MAGIC and CONDAMEERA were ordered to be refunded and the following deductions applicable:

Deductions applicable on the late scratching of Dazzling Magic at 1.03 pm.

6 cents in the dollar for the win of Cloudy NIght
6 cents in the dollar for place of Cloudy NIght
7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place Risani
16 cents in the dollar for 3rd place Sole Survivor

Deductions applicable between 1.03 pm and the late scratching of Condameera at 1.05 pm.

0 cents in the dollar for the win of Cloudy Night
2 cents in the dollar for place of Cloudy NIght
7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place Risani
5 cents in the dollar for 3rd place Sole Survivor

Starting prices were subject to deduction.

At the start, RISANI (A. Coome) and PURE WIDOW (A. Allen) bumped.

Shortly after the start, BELLA ROCKET (C. Pye) commenced to buck and took no competitive part in the race.

At the 400m, SOLE SURVIVOR (M. Usher) had to be steadied when IF ONLY THEY KNEW (T. O'Hara) shifted in slightly.

IF ONLY THEY KNEW raced wide throughout.

Connections of DAZZLING MAGIC and BELLA ROCKET were advised each must obtain 2 barrier certificates prior to racing again.

Following the incident in the barriers, Jockey D. Simmons was transported to hospital for observation. He was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to him resuming race riding. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.


Race 2: Bacardi Lion Benchmark 75 H'cap - 1100m
1st Imeldamay 2nd Accelero 3rd Liger 4th- So Pretentious

ERFAAN (T. Bannon) commenced to buck shortly after the start.
A post race examination of ERFAAN revealed no abnormalities. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that the gelding must obtain 2 barrier certificates prior to racing again.




Race 3: The Daily Mercury Class 2 Hanmer - 800m
1st Tycoon Annie 2nd King Karena 3rd Killer Wasp 4th- General Hap

MYSTERIOUS MAN (L. Dillon) jumped outwards at the start and COAL COMMAND (S. Fawke) jumped inwards, resulting in BASHINGA (S. Wilson) becoming unbalanced.

GENERAL HAP (T. O'Hara) and KILLER WASP (M. Usher) raced wide throughout.

At the 150m, KING KARENA (A. Allen) shifted out and bumped KILLER WASP to obtain clear running.

KING KARENA was accidently struck by the whip of M. Usher, rider of KILLER WASP, on 2 occasions in the straight.

Upon pulling up, TYCOON ANNIE slipped over, dislodging jockey J. Felix. J. Felix was not injured in this incident. TYCOON ANNIE was examined by the veterinary surgeon, with no injury detected.

Race 4: Caneland Central Benchmark 60 H'cap - 1300m
1st Savasha 2nd Thankgodforfranc 3rd Sweet Taboo 4th- Brochette

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer R. Walsh for the late declaration of riders for SAMMY JUNIOR and KEY TO THE CAN.

J. Felix was the replacement rider for HELP ME RHONDA.

On return to scale, jockey A. Coome, rider of the 2nd placegetter, THANKGODFORFRANC, lodged a protest against SAVASHA (K. Aho) being declared the winner, alleging interference at approximately the 300m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol films, stewards were satisfied that the interference suffered by THANKGODFORFRANC did not warrant a reversal of the placings and the protest was dismissed. Near the 300m, SAVASHA (K. Aho) shifted in marginally, resulting in THANKGODFORFRANC being held up on the heels of SAMMY JUNIOR (S. Wilson). Shortly after, SAVASHA rolled out, slightly impeding THANKGODFORFRANC. Apprentice K. Aho, rider of SAVASHA, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

SWEET TABOO (L. Dillon) and KEY THE CAN (J. Babarovich) began awkwardly.

BEDROCK BETTY (T. O'Hara) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 400m, SWEET TABOO (L. Dillon) had to be steadied from the heels of WEATEHRVANE (M. Usher), which shifted in slightly.

WEATHERVANE raced wide throughout.


Race 5: Summer Racing In Mackay 11 January 2014 Benchmark 70 H'cap - 1560m
1st Misty Rocket 2nd Holdontoyahorses 3rd Lokelani 4th- Dodge The Grey

The start of this race was delayed with JUST THE TONIC and DODGE THE GREY had to be re-saddled.

MISTY ROCKET (T. O'Hara) was slow to begin.

At the 1300m, HOLDONTOYAHORSES (J. Felix) was inclined to lay out across the heels of LOKELANI (C. Pye), which had been dictated in slightly by ARIADNE (S. Fawke), resulting in J. Felix having to restrain HOLDONTOYAHORSES.

Near the 1100m, EURONGILLY (J. Babarovich) over raced onto the heels of ARIADNE and had to be steadied.

HEZOFF (A. Allen) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

At the 700m, ARIADNE (S. Fawke) had to be steadied off the heels of HEZOFF, resulting in HOLDONTOYAHORSES having to be steadied of the heels of ARIADNE.

Over the concluding stages, ARIADNE shifted in under pressure and bumped EURONGILLY.

EURONGILLY and JUST THE TONIC (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.

Apprentice A. Allen, rider of HEZOFF, stated that after he had to make use of the gelding in the early stages, HEZOFF than failed to respond to his riding in the straight. A post race veterinary examination HEZOFF failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 6: Merry Christmas From The MTC Class 3 H'cap - 1100m
1st Lucky Us 2nd Drumkit 3rd Gold Bender 4th- Stormwood

Stewards permitted T. O'Hara to replace A. Allen as the rider of LUCKY US due to flight times.

BROTHER BOB (K. Aho) jumped inwards and KOSTA LAD (S. Fawke) jumped outwards, resulting in STORMWOOD (L. Dillon) and LUCKY US (T. O'Hara) being tightened for room.

BROTHER BOB (K. Aho) raced wide throughout.
