1st ROUND MOUNTAIN GAL 2nd CRAIGLEA MISSION 3rd BEST JIRRAJ 4th - STYLISH LUCK
PRETTY VACANT (D. Missen) was slow to begin.
In the early stages ROUND MOUNTAIN GAL (S. Wilson) raced keenly.
Approaching the 100 metres ROUND MOUNTAIN GAL was inclined to lay in, resulting in CRAIGLEA MISSION (A. Coome) shifting in when not quite clear. Jockey Coome was admonished and advised to exercise greater care.
Following the race Jockey D. Missen reported that PRETTY VACANT travelled well throughout the event, however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of PRETTY VACANT revealed that it was shin sore. Trainer A. Farrell said that the horse will now be sent for a spell. Acting on that assurance, stewards took no further action.
After riding FOXIE SOCKCEE in this race Jockey L. Dillon became indisposed and was unable to fulfil his further engagement.
Race 2: Bacardi Lion Open Handicap - 1560 metres
1st MISTY ROCKET 2nd CASTLE EX[RESS 3rd SHORT TRIP 4th - SO PRETENTIOUS
When the paced slackened at the 1300 metres CASTLE EXPRESS (F. Edwards) improved onto the heels of SHORT TRIP (App. K. Aho) and had to be steadied.
Race 3: NE Food Class 3 Plate - 1560 metres
1st – PAYTEEVEE 2nd DODGE THE GREY 3rd BARBUDA 4th - BENNY’S HALO
PAYTEEVEE (A. Coome) was slow to begin.
In the early stages HE’S A TERROR (App. J. Orman) raced keenly.
Approaching the turn at the 1300 metres VIKING GOOD THING (D. Simmons) hung out badly and inconvenienced DODGE THE GREY. Jockey D. Simmons reported that VIKING GOOD THING was then inclined to hang out for the majority of the event. Connections were advised that VIKING GOOD THING must barrier trial satisfactorily under racing conditions before being permitted to race again.
Race 4: - Blacks Real Estate Maiden Plate – 800 metres
1st CRAIGLEA DANSAL 2nd - CHARGALUCCA 3rd CRAIGLEA ZETA 4th – CRAIGLEA SACHA
After riding FOXIE SOCKCEE in Race 1, Jockey L. Dillon became indisposed. Jockey C. McIver was substituted. Jockey Dillon was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again.
GENTLY GUIDED (M. Usher) was slow to begin.
Jockey C. McIver, the rider of ROCKET OF RANSOM, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R137(a) in that at approximately the 300 metres he made insufficient effort to relieve the pressure on GENTLY GUIDED (M. Usher), which was racing to his inside, resulting in Jockey Usher having to check his mount and lose his rightful running. Jockey McIver was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 Central Queensland meetings, to commence at midnight on 17th April 2014, up to and including midnight on 20th April 2014. In assessing penalty stewards took into account mitigating circumstances, including the racing manners of GENTLY GUIDED.
Shortly after straightening for home STRUNG OUT (T. Bannon) was disappointed for a narrow run between WELL HELLO DOLLY (S. Watkin), which shifted out when not completely clear, and CRAIGLEA ZETA (App. S. Fawke). STRUNG OUT was then shifted to the inside of that runner to improve.
WELL HELLO DOLLY raced wide throughout.
Race 5: AE Smith BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st ARIADNE 2nd - ANDTHEBANDPLAYEDON 3rd MIN MIN MAN 4th - MAGGIE’S PAL
Trainer Mr W. Kenning advised stewards that leading up to today’s meeting FROG HOLLOW sustained bruising to its near fore fetlock. Mr Kenning said that FROG HOLLOW had since recovered from the injury and he expected a forward showing by the gelding today. Public announcements were made accordingly.
RUM RATION (J. Felix) and MAGGIE’S PAL (M. Usher) were fractious in the barriers.
About the 150 metres ARIADNE (S. Watkin) shifted out marginally and inconvenienced MAGGIE’S PAL, which was inclined to lay in across the heels of ARIADNE.
EURONGILLY (D. Simmons) raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of FROG HOLLOW (F. Edwards) revealed no abnormalities.
Race 6: Barcam Electrical Class 2 Handicap – 1050 metres
1st BAGINIQUE 2nd KILLER WASP 3rd OPRAH 4th - KID ALAPRIS
CRYSTALS’N’PEARLS App. S. Fawke slipped over when leaving the tie-up stalls to move into the enclosure. The mare was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.
Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred at approximately the 900 metres. After taking evidence from the riders involved, stewards established that at that stage of the event KING MAGNUSSON (D. Missen) was inclined to shift in and away from KID ALAPRIS (T. Bannon) , despite the efforts of its rider, and crowded the running of KILLER WASP (App. J. Orman), resulting in that runner clipping the heels of KING MAGNUSSON and blundering. Both FOREBODING (App. K. Aho) and CRYSTALS’N’PEARLS (App. S. Fawke), which were racing
to the inside of KILLER WASP, were hampered in consequence.
Race 7: O’Riely Realty BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st VELONMAARA 2nd BLEACHING 3rd PROUD WARRIOR 4th - FLAG FAVOURITE
At the start BREAK OF DAWN (M. Usher) stood flat-footed and lost considerable ground.
In the early stages FLAG FAVOURITE (T. Bannon) raced ungenerously.
BLEACHING (J. Felix) raced wide throughout.
Over the final 100 metres MOSSIMO (S.Watkin)was awkwardly placed on the heels of PROUD WARRIOR (A. Coome) and had to be continually steadied.
A post-race veterinary examination of BREAK OF DAWN, which finished tailed off, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer A. Usher will be advised that BREAK OF DAWN must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.
