Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey M. Usher, the rider of OPRAH, which finished 5th, against GRIZZLE (App. K. Aho) being declared 3rd, alleging interference over the final 100 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official patrol films and acting on their own observations, stewards established that approaching the 100 metres GRIZZLE (A. K. Aho) shifted out and made contact with OPRAH . At the 40 metres TABASCO FORCE (F. Edwards shifted out , taking GRIZZLE out onto OPRAH. Bearing in mind the margin of 1 length between the two runners at the finish and the manner in which they finished the race off, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that OPRAH would have finished ahead of GRIZZLE had the interference not occurred, and accordingly the protest was dismissed and correct weight was given on the judge’s placings.
AL SAMUI (J. Babarovich) knuckled on jumping.
LATIN KING (C. McIver) was slow to begin.
