GENERAL:
Following a report by Mr J. Hackett, a member of the Racing Queensland Integrity Unit, stewards opened an inquiry into the pre-race treatment of horses trained by Mr J. Zielke that were engaged to race at today’s meeting. After taking evidence from Mr Hackett and Mr Zielke, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed.

Race 7: Reef Properties Class 6 Handicap
Trainer C. Garland reported that GUNNER KNOX will now be retired from racing.
Race 1: Zinc 101.9 Maiden Plate - 1300 metres
1st – CUMANI 2nd AZZURAYER 3rd ROCKET BILLY REBEL 4th - COOLOWIE
A pre-race veterinary examination of CUMANI, which was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties, cleared the mare to take its place in the field.
In the early stages MOSSIMO (S. Watkin) was inclined to over-race.
AZZURAYER (D. Evans) raced wide throughout.
Race 2: Seven Local News QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap - 1200 metres
1st MAHRAJAAN 2nd YOU DID WHAT 3rd THANKGODFORFRANC 4th - MYTHOLOGIST
MISHANI GLADIATOR (A. Coome) began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
When the pace steadied near the 900 metres MISHANI GLADIATOR had to be steadied to avoid the heels of TUNING (S. Sheargold) and was subsequently tightened for room between MYTHOLOGIST (App. M. McGillivray) and BAR QUEEN JOJO (T. Bannon), which shifted in.
MYTHOLOGIST raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Mark Kelly Property Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – POUND ON TUBBY 2nd KHAANTANTES 3rd MURTLE MISS 4th - VIKING GOOD THING
Stewards acceded to a request by trainer Mr T. Cook that MURTLE MISS race without blinkers, in accordance with a change of gear he had notified to RISA on Thursday last. Public announcements were made accordingly.
Following the race it was noted that VIKING GOOD THING (D. Simmons) had bled from both nostrils. Trainer J. Campeao was advised that, as this was the first time the gelding had bled, VIKING GOOD THING will be barred from racing for 3 months under A.R. 53A, and then only after performing satisfactorily in a gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward.
HER EAGLE EYES (T. Bannon) was slow to begin.
POUND ON TUBBY (N. Evans) and MURTLE MISS (A. Coome) began awkwardly.
At the 900 metres DROPPER CRYSTAL (A. Spinks) had to be steadied off the heels of BOSS HUSSLER (S. Sheargold), which shifted in. Jockey Sheargold was advised to exercise more care.
In the early and middle stages POUND ON TUBBY over-raced.
Near the 600 metres POUND ON TUBBY was inclined to hang out, despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in DROPPER CRYSTAL having to be checked.
Leaving the 300 metres LE CHAT BOTTE (D. Evans) was held up on the heels of FALVINA (S. Watkin) and BOSS HUSSLER and had to be shifted to the inside to improve.
At approximately the 100 metres OPRAH (T. O’Hara) was inclined to lay in.
FALVINA and BOSS HUSSLER raced wide throughout.
Race 4: - Woollam Constructions Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 3 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st SAY I WON’T 2nd - GO DIGGER 3rd PRINCE DAN 4th – BON TEMPS
Public announcements were made informing patrons that the ownership of HARD LIQUOR shown in the Race Book was incorrect and that the present owner of the gelding was Mr M. Patterson.
Stewards acceded to a request by trainer J. Zielke that BON TEMPS be permitted to race without winkers. Public announcements were made to that effect. Stewards will make further inquiries with RISA regarding the matter.
MUSHATTA (A. Coome) and MAGIC WALTZ (D. Hayse) bumped at the start.
LATIN KING (C. McIver) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start PRINCE DAN (D. Missen) and POPULAR BELIEF (L. Dillon) bumped on a number of occasions.
Shortly after entering the straight HARD LIQUOR (T. Bannon) was awkwardly placed on the heels of MUSHATTA. HARD LIQUOR was then shifted to the inside, placing LATIN KING (C. McIver)in restricted room and tightening MAGIC WALTZ in onto the running rail. MAGIC WALTZ and LATIN KING then had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the straight. Jockey Bannon was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
In the early part of the straight NEDIYM’S QUEST (App. M. McGillivray) laid in, despite the efforts of its rider. At the same time HARD LIQUOR (T. Bannon) shifted out marginally resulting in FADED (T. O’Hara) and LATIN KING (C. McIver) having to check to avoid the heels of NEDIYM’S QUEST.
Over the concluding stages GO DIGGER (S. Sheargold) was inclined to lay in.
NEDIYM’S QUEST and PRINCE DAN raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of NEDIYM’S QUEST revealed that the gelding sustained a laceration to its off hind heel.
Race 5: Sunstate Vehicle Rentals Class 4 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st THAT’S POPS 2nd - HONOUR THE DAME 3rd BAGINIQUE 4th - LIGHT DREAMER
The start was slightly delayed when the bridle on WOODEN EYE JOE had to be replaced behind the barriers.
WOODEN EYE JOE (L. Dillon) and GOLD BENDER (D. Missen) were slow to begin.
STAUNCH NORTH (S. Wilson) slipped behind as the start was effected.
HONOUR THE DAME (D. Hayse) raced keenly in the early stages.
VERMITHRAX (S. Watkin) and LIGHT DREAMER (D. Simmons) raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Blue River Ice BenchMark 79 Handicap – 1100 metres
1st PRINCELY 2nd HATZIS 3rd SAMMY JUNIOR 4th - NEW DAY RISING 5th - STARLISTIC
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey D. Hayse, the rider of STARLISTIC which finished 5th, to view the official photo finish. Having done so, Jockey Hayse was satisfied with the judge’s numbers as semaphored and correct weight was given.
Jockey C. Whiteley reported that for the majority of the home straight LUCKY US was inclined to lay in.
For the majority of the home straight CHIAROSCURO (D. Simmons) was forced to race in restricted room to the inside of TAN TAT ALPHA (T. Bannon) and was unable to be fully tested in the run to the finish.
A post-race veterinary examination of WITH DANGER (D. Evans) revealed no abnormalities.
CANNY SWIM (C. McIver), LUCKY US, and WITH DANGER (D. Evans) raced wide throughout.
Race 7: Carlton Mid 2014 Mackay Cup Open Handicap – 1800 metres
1st BAQABA 2nd PAYTEEVEE 3rd BARAMUL BULLET 4th - CANONIZED 5th - OFORAWESOME
Prior to the race public announcements were made advising patrons that BAQABA raced on Thursday last, 3rd July 2014, in the Newmarket Open Handicap over 1300 metres and finished second, beaten ).4 of a length.
At the start DAMN GOOD IDEA (C. McIver) was slow.
PAYTEEVEE (A. Coome) began awkwardly.
MISTY ROCKET (T. O’Hara) made the turn leaving the straight on the first occasion awkwardly, taking PAYTEEVEE (A. Coome) out onto OFORAWESOME (C. Whiteley), which became unbalanced.
In the middle stages PAYTEEVEE was inclined to get its head in the air ,and over-raced for a short distance.
Approaching the 400 metres PAYTEEVEE shifted out slightly and bumped CASTLE EXPRESS (D. Simmons).
SHOWMETHEMONEY (L. Dillon) was incllined to lay in from the top of the straight.
BAQABA (D. Hayse) and CASTLE EXPRESS raced wide throughout.
From approximately the 400m until near the 200 metres CANONIZED (T. Bannon) was held up behind PAYTEEVEE and unable to obtain clear running.
Jockey C. Small reported that HEARTFELT QUEST travelled well in the run but failed to let down over the concluding stages and was disappointing.
Race 8: Fiesta Rentals BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1560 metres
1st DOREBOY 2nd FLAG FAVOURITE 3rd LIBERTY’S MAGIC 4th - CONTROL AGENT
Jockey C. Small was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a), in that leaving the 400 metres he permitted DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE to shift out around the heels of CONTROL AGENT (S.Sheargold), which has taken KING OF THE FOREST (A. Coome) out onto HE’S A TERROR (T. Bannon), which has been taken out across the heels of DOREBOY, resulting in KING OF THE FOREST having to be checked. Jockey Small was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 7 SEQ meetings, to commence at midnight on 8th July 2014, up to and including Saturday 19th July 2014.
Jockey S. Sheargold pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a), in that at approximately the 900 metres he permitted CONTROL AGENT to shift in when insufficiently clear of DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE (C. Small), which was taken in onto GRIZZLE (D. Missen), which was tightened for room and lost its rightful running. Jockey Sheargold was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 3 Capricornia meetings, to commence at midnight on Thursday 10th July 2014, up to and including midnight on Saturday 19th July 2014.
At the 200 metres LIBERTY’S MAGIC (A. Spinks) was held up behind CONTROL AGENT and had to be shifted to the inside to obtain clear running. In the incident PROUD WARRIOR (T. O’Hara) was also held up on the heels of CONTROL AGENT and had to be shifted to the inside to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 100 metres SILVERZEN (N. Evans) shifted in and away from LIBERTY’S MAGIC resulting in PROUD WARRIOR (T O’Hara) and SHUFFLES (D Hayse) being momentarily tightened for room.
