Race 1: Class B H’cap - 900m
Ist Our Hierarchy 2nd Ace Of Shadows 3rd Benny Eggs
C. Gilby was questioned regarding the performance of SINNOCENT. He stated that the horse was slow to begin last start and got back, however today the mare jumped well but then failed to gain early speed and as a consequence resented the sand that was coming back in her face. After being able to shift wider on the track and avoid the sand, SINNOCENT raced truly and it was his opinion that the mare was looking for further distance.
Jockey T. Hill, rider of CRACK THE CASE, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in nearing the 650m and crowd ACE OF SHADOWS, which subsequently was taken in on to BEDEVIL (A. Spradau), which had to be steadied.
Shortly after passing the 600m, BEDEVIL was crowded between ACE OF SHADOWS and CANNY JEWEL (M. Cummings) and when steadied got its head up and shifted out, bumping ACE OF SHADOWS. As a result, BEDEVIL lost ground.
Race 2: Class 5 H’cap - 1000m
Ist Lasting Peace 2nd Flipper Macartney 3rd Zeus
FIRST TIME (T. Hill) became fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
On jumping, LATIVIA (D. Price) knuckled over and lost considerable ground.
TRUE DIEHARD (C. Gilby) blundered when released.
Between the 600m and 400m, TAX EVASION (K. Stone) had a tendency to lay out and bumped FIRST TIME on 2 occasions, resulting in both horses becoming momentarily unbalanced.
Race 3: Class 2 H’cap - 1200m
Ist More Than Primed 2nd Flirten 3rd Kwik’n’kool
Trainer S. Royes was fined the sum of $100 under AR175(k) in relation to negligence in that he presented TURN THE DIAL to the enclosure without stitching on the hind bumper bandages.
Stewards reprimanded jockey K. Stone, rider of TURN THE DIAL, when on jumping he failed to react quickly enough to avoid contact with KWIK’N’ KOOL, resulting in that horse losing ground. KWIK’N’KOOL was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race.
Apprentice J. Daley advised stewards that her mount EMPTY SKY had a distinct dislike to the sand and dust that was coming back into the gelding’s face and raced untruly throughout..
Race 4: Class 3 H’cap - 1450m
Ist Supertax 2nd Nothin Leica Rapid 3rd Medowie Motivator
DESERT LIGHTNING was scratched due to the unavailability of a rider.
MEDOWIE MOTIVATOR (J. Daley) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
COTTON CANDY (K. Ballard) jumped awkwardly and then shortly after was able to muster speed.
K. Ballard, rider of COTTON CANDY, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in approaching the 1300m and in doing so obliged T. Brummell to check AID AND ABEL and lose ground.
Race 5: H’cap - 1450m
Ist Main Game 2nd Victory Sands 3rd St Louis Blue
Jockey M. Cummings, rider of MAIN GAME, was reprimanded under AR 137A(5) in that he struck his mount MAIN GAME in consecutive strides over the final 200m.
