GENERAL: Stewards enquired into the scratching of “Tickle’em” Race 2 and “More Than Primed” Race 3. Trainer Mr George Tipping explained that both runners had raced at Boulia the previous Saturday (03/04/2010) which was a very hard track. Both runners had begun to show signs of slight soreness but he was hopeful that they would recover by this meeting. However by Friday morning they had not improved and he scratched before the deadline on Saturday morning. The club Veterinarian Dr Webber inspected both runners after arriving at the track and reported that they were both very sore in front which she believes may have been from the state of the Boulia track. Trainer Tipping was instructed to produce veterinary certs before racing again. Stewards also spoke with stable representative Mr Les Smerdon in reference to the late withdrawal of “The Brewster” Race 2 at approximately 1:15pm. Mr Smerdon explained that “The Brewster” had returned lame after competing at Cloncurry (27/03/2010) and a vet cert was to be supplied prior to racing today. However the stable Veterinarian lives in Cloncurry and would not be available until today’s Mt Isa meeting. .Mr Smerdon did state that “The Brewster” had not shown any signs of lameness all week and had performed well in his work leading up to the meeting and a rider had been engaged. However the gelding again appeared lame this morning and after being inspected by the club’s vet “The Brewster” was found to be lame in the near fore foot and was subsequently passed unfit to start. Stewards instructed Mr Smerdon that “The Brewster” was to perform in a gallop prior to racing again and was then to be inspected by a vet with a certificate of soundness to be presented of which he was to inform trainer P Inwood.
