EVERYTHING’S SET (J. Rudd) and CECOTTO (A. Morrinson) raced wide throughout.
Near the 800 metres SHIMAZU (T. Brummell) had to be eased when CECOTTO (A. Morrison) shifted in slightly. Jockey Morrison was advised to exercise more care in future circumstances.

Race 3: Steejo Press Benchmark 65 Handicap – 1000 metres:
1st – FULGORA 2nd – WINDSPLITTER 3rd – FOUAREE 4th – POMATINI
When questioned as to disappointing performance of ROPBALE, Jockey T. Chambers stated that the mare was very worked up before the event and was very fractious in the barriers. Jockey Chambers further stated that ROPBALE began awkwardly resulting in the mare being slow to begin and did not respond to her riding and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mrs D. Sanderson was advised that the mare must trial to the Stewards satisfaction before being permitted to start again.
FULGORA (App T. Ticknell) raced wide in the middle stages.
When questioned as to the performance of POMATINI which raced below market expectations, Jockey A. Spradau stated that the gelding had been working well leading into this event. Jockey Spradau further stated that POMATINI was looking for the distance of 1200 metres at this stage of its preparation. Trainer R. Burrow agreed with the comments of jockey Spradau and added that there were no races available at the distance of 1200 metres so he decided to race POMATINI over today’s distance of 1000 metres again. Mr Burrow further added that he will start the gelding over 1200 metres next start. Stewards noted their explanations.
Race 4: CNW Electrical Open Handicap – 1100 metres:
1st – ROCKET ON BY 2nd – DIMI THE DANCER 3rd – SURPASSER 4th – FASTER BUSTER
Stewards accepted the explanation for the late rider declaration of jockey J. Rudd on FASTER BUSTER.
When DIMI THE DANCER (T. Chambers) failed to muster any early speed, jockey Chambers stated that she found herself at the rear of the field, but then pressured her mount to take up its customary leading position.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of CASTAWAY, Jockey A. Morrison stated that the gelding was very worked up before the event and was very fractious in the barriers. Jockey Morrison further stated that it began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin and when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer B. Braden subsequently advised Stewards that when CASTAWAY had cooled down after the event it revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg. Mr Braden was advised a veterinary certificate of clearance would be required before the gelding is permitted to start again.
