GENERAL: As apprentice S. Richardson was indisposed, Stewards permitted the following riding replacements.
Race 4 Misty Tycoon G. Bannister
Race 5 Carlton Lad L. Appo (no apprentice available)
Race 6 Shapeshifter K. Cunningham
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by jockey A. Morrison for failing to fulfil his engagement and was replaced as follows.
Race 1 Lotus Birch B. Calkin
Race 3 Clear Ace B. Calkin
Race 4 Gerry’s Gold J. Babarovich
RACE 1: FOUREX CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1000M
Stewards acceded to a request from trainer G. Hatch (AFRAID) to replace A. Merritt with J. Hoopert when A. Merritt was ½kg over his allocated weight.
Stewards ordered the withdrawal of MILITARY PRINCESS when that mare refused to leave the saddling enclosure. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on MILITARY PRINCESS were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 14 cents in the dollar on the face value of the place bets, applicable to successful wages placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer T. Green was advised that MILITARY PRINCESS must trial prior to its next start.
On jumping, MILNAIR shifted in and made contact with COUNTRY CARAT. A short distance later, COUNTRY CARAT shifted in and hampered MILNAIR. Jockey P. Lindeberg was advised to make a greater effort in similar circumstances.
MINSKY was obliged to race wide throughout.
ZALZALLA was forced wide on the home turn by RUM RUNNER which shifted out.
MILNAIR was held up for clear running after passing the 100 metres.
Over the concluding stages, LOTUS BIRD shifted out and made contact with ZALZALLA.
Apprentice jockey Zelda Landry was reprimanded for failing to claim her full allowance on AGENCY.
RACE 2: FLEMINGS ENTERPRISES SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES TW0-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1000M
GASHEDA was slow to begin. RICH CHARIOT jumped away awkwardly and shifted in and made contact with KALINGA MIST. Jockey P. Spry reported that GASHEDA got the bit through the mouth during the race and the horse had a tendency to hang out and was placed at a disadvantage over the last 200 metres.
BYAMBEE hung out approaching the home turn.
Trainer P. Blackwell was advised that CHAUDIE BOY which ran off on the home turn would be required to barrier trial prior to its next start. A veterinary examination of CHAUDIE BOY revealed that the colt had pulled up shin sore.
RACE 3: THORPS JEWELLERS KINGAROY MAIDEN HCP – 1200M
As P. Lindeberg was unable to make the weight, B. Calkin was substituted as the rider of CLEAR ICE. Subsequently, P. Lindeberg was fined $50.
COTTAGE ROOF was slow to jump. On jumping SANDTILLEY shifted in and made contact with BERI STAR CRAZY on two occasions. A short distance later, SANDTILLEY was hampered by FLAME which shifted out slightly. Approaching the 400 metres, SANTILLEY was held up for clear running for some distance behind CLEAR ICE.
Approaching the home turn, SAMSUN had a tendency to hang out.
Approaching the 100 metres FOREST CREEK, when attempting to improve, shifted out from behind the heels of NEARLY A DANE, hampering FLAME WALKER.
RACE 4: R&R DUNCAN BURNETT TO THE BEACH C5 HCP – 1200M
MATTER OF TIME and OPAL ICE were both slow to begin.
For some distance prior to the home turn, SYDNEY SIDER was held up for clear running behind GERRY’S GOLD.
G. Lynch, the rider of BARREL A FUN, was reprimanded for returning to scale in excess of 1 kg of his allocated weight.
RACE 5: ENVIROSPHERES NANANGO CUP HANDICAP – 1600M
Approaching the 1400 metres, when apprentice Ono (Blakehurst) was attempting to improve to the inside of ARC BURN where there was doubtful room, apprentice Ono then was obliged to steady his mount and lose considerable ground.
Approaching the first turn B. Calkin, the rider of COUNT YOUR DREAMS, was placed at a disadvantage when his cap fell over his eyes which resulted in B. Calkin not being able to see for some distance. At the same stage, COUNT YOUR DREAMS shifted out and GREEN LIGHT ON which was travelling to the outside, had to be severely checked.
DIET DAZE made the first turn awkwardly.

Stewards questioned the riding tactics adopted by apprentice T. Ono rider of BLAKEHURST. From the 1300 metres to the 400 metres, apprentice Ono stated that he was instructed to ride BLAKEHURST back at the rear of the field and make his run from the 400 metres. Apprentice Ono further stated that after receiving interference shortly after the start, he was back further than he anticipated, and was reluctant to go forward as this would be against his riding instructions. Whilst bearing in mind T. Ono’s relative inexperience, Stewards did advice T. Ono that he should have taken more initiative and raced closer than he did in the middle stages of the event.
RACE 6: THE ADVISER CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1200M
CRIMSON AND GOLD was slow to jump. On jumping ALL BLACK ANGEL shifted out and made contact with HARRIO.
Approaching the home turn, PARTICIPANT shifted in which resulted in IGNASON being taken in onto NDAU which had to be steadied and in doing so made contact with the hind quarters of MUSICAL SPIN. Jockey R. Hancock was reminded on his obligations when shifting ground.
