Race 1: Mal McCallum Memorial / 3 Way Photos Maiden Plate 800m

1st – Star of Falvelon 2nd- Stromberg Gold 3rd- Cabinda 4th- Trivial Miss

Due to a malfunction with the scales, stewards declared Correct Weight under the provisions of AR 142.

MEDEWIN (App. D. McWhinney) who broke through the front of the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

SPEED MAGICIAN (L. Henry) and TRIVIAL MISS (M. Gray) were both slow to begin.

NEWSMINSTER (App. R. Hinricks) began awkwardly and shifted out, tightening MEDEWIN.

NEWSMINSTER shifted out near the 400m, taking MEDEWIN wider on the track.

FORWARD ESTIMATE (L. Appo) shifted out on the home turn taking INTHANON (I. Coombes) wider on the track.

STAR OF FALVELON (App. S. Bogenhuber) was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

INTHANON raced wide throughout.

Race 2: Dorothy Pratt MLA Class B Handicap 1000m

1st – Sheer Robbery 2nd- Spirit at Sea 3rd- Fraha 4th- Grey Encounter

EGYPTIAN JEWEL (App. M. O’Brien) stood in the barriers and lost valuable ground.

FLYBEFREE (C. Gilby) and ALRIODANE (I. Coombes) were both slow to begin.

HAYIL KING DAYL (App. C. Priest) was disappointed for run near the 100m between GREY ENCOUNTER (L. Appo) and FRAHA (L. Henry), both of which shifted ground.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey I Coombes, regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ALRIODANE. I. Coombes stated the gelding raced greenly and on the wrong leg throughout the event, and was inclined to lay out away from the runners to his inside. He further added the horse seemed sound in its action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards noted Jockey Coombes’s explanation.

Race 4: RSL Memorial Club / Les & Thelma Pederson Memorial Class 3 Plate 1200m

1st – Go on Greg 2nd- Ormond Road 3rd- Valley Moon 4th- Silver Dream

The start of this race was delayed due to heavy rain. A track inspection was carried out by stewards and a delegation of senior riders, which deemed the track safe, and the meeting was able to proceed.

The track rating was downgraded to a Slow 7 prior to the running of this race.

SILVER DREAM (L. Appo), BEE JAY SENZA (App. M. O’Brien) and VALLEY MOON (L. McCoy) were all slow to begin.

Near the 1100m ORMOND ROAD (K. Pedron) shifted in and tightened the running of WAYNE’S CHOICE (App. C. Priest). Jockey Pedron was issued a reprimand for this incident.

BEE JAY SENZA was momentarily held up and unable to improve when attempting a narrow run leaving the 100m between BIG GERRY (C. Kearney) and PULL THE WOOL (K. Sawyers).

C. Kearney, the rider of BIG GERRY, reported that his mount had slipped near the 450m, and again near the 100m.

A post race veterinary inspection of ORMOND ROAD, revealed the gelding had pulled up in a distressed and dehydrated state. Trainer S. Pedron was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to the gelding’s next start.

Race 5: Ergon Energy Open Handicap 1200m

1st – Burmak 2nd- Court Adjourned 3rd- Barramundi 4th- Frenardi

BARRAMUNDI (App. D. McWhinney) who raced wide throughout, shifted wider on the home turn, taking BURMAK (L. McCoy) wider on the track.
