RICHMOND TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 11/10/03
STEWARDS PANEL: W BIRCH (Chairman), M STEHBENS
WEATHER – FINE TRACK:-GOOD RAIL –TRUE
RACE 1: CLASS B HANDICAP – 1200 Metres – 9 Starters
CONTENTION jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Shortly after the start WHO’S THE CHIEF (D Heslin) shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider taking FAULTY FUSE (J Felix) in onto GET ‘EM (J Haitana) who in turn shifted in across the running of CONTENTION (J Camilleri) resulting in that horse having to be checked. B Holden the trainer of CONTENTION which proved difficult to load, was advised that the gelding must obtain a further Barrier Certificate prior to its next race start.
RACE 2: CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres – 6 Starters
WESTERN DOWNS was declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 2:00 p.m. when that horse failed to arrive on course. SECRET MISSILE (S Kavanagh) jumped in at the start tightening the running of SNAPPY BOOTS (A Spradau) and BURRA BELLE (D Slack-Smith). Shortly after SNAPPY BOOTS had to be steadied off the heels of SECRET MISSILE which was taken in momentarily by SPIRIT OF FUN (R Seymour).
RACE 3: QTIS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres – 9 Starters
DESTINY BLUE was declared a late scratching at 2.35pm by order of the Steards when that horse failed to arrive on course.
CENTA SEQUALO (K Ballard) jumped in at the start and made heavy contact with ARCARENDI (D Slack-Smith) which in turn shifted in bumping GRASETA STAR (D Heslin). PRINCE OF SHADOWS (J Haitana) was very slow to begin. Trainer J Swift was advised that at warning would be placed on that Gelding in regards to its barrier manners.
RACE 4: OPEN HANDICAP – 1400 Metres – 7 Starters
ACROSS was declared a late scratching at 3.15pm by order of the Stewards when that horse failed to arrive on course.
No racing incidents.
RACE 5: CLASS 6 PLATE – 1200 Metres – 7 Starters
ANAKIE WALK was a late scratching at 4:00 p.m. by order of the Stewards when that gelding failed to arrive on course. FOREVER BLESSED (D Henslin) was slow to begin.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
