SCRATCHINGS. - Nil.RIDER ALTERATION. Race 2. Bill.SEATON was engaged to ride Outlaw. Race 3. Ms. R.SEYMOUR replaced Apprentice T.MAEDA on Contention. Race 5. John CAMILLERI was engaged to ride Dartbrook King.RACE 1: CLASS ‘B’ HANDICAP. 1000M. 8 Starters.Okay Birdy (M.JOHNSTON) reared in the barrier but then settled. At the start Faulty Fuse (Apprentice T.MAEDA) jumped inwards making contact with Lochlee Diesel (Ms D.SLACK-SMITH), who was taken out and made contact with Okay Birdie (M.JOHNSTON). Soon after the start Creedenie (P.BROWN) was steadied. Jockey BROWN advised his horse had jumped awkwardly and was slightly tightened for room and he then checked his mount. RACE 2:CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 800 Metres. 9 Starters Jockey Bill.SEATON was engaged to ride Outlaw. Graseta Star (M.JOHNSTON) was fractious in the barrier immediately prior to jumping. M.JOHNSTON the rider of Graseta Star, who was placed second past the post, lodged a protest against Time Flies (Ms R.SEYMOUR) the first horse past the winning post, being declared the winner. The grounds of the protest being that Time Flies had shifted in on a number of occasions between the home turn and the winning post, causing Jockey JOHNSTON to stop riding his mount out thus losing several lengths, which ground lost, was in excess of the losing margin . After taking evidence and viewing the video film, which was of little use, Stewards were of the opinion that Time Flies had shifted in and had not travelled a straight course in the straight, which had prevented JOHNSTON from fully riding his mount out and causing him to lose ground. The Stewards were of the opinion that the interference was of such a nature that had the interference not occurred, Graseta Star would have finished ahead of Time Flies. Therefore the protest was upheld and the official placings were amended to read, First, Graseta Star (M.JOHNSTON), Second, Time Flies (Ms R.SEYMOUR), Third, Love to Town (Apprentice S.KAVANAGH). At an inquiry into this interference Jockey JOHNSTON gave evidence to the effect that whilst Time Flies had interfered with Graseta Star on a number of occasions between the home turn and the winning post he believed that the interference was caused by the horse Time Flies hanging in and not by any careless riding by Jockey Ms. R.SEYMOUR, who JOHNSTON stated he believed had attempted to keep Time Flies travelling a straight course. In the circumstances Jockey Ms R.SEYMOUR was given the benefit of the doubt but was strongly advised that she must make every effort to ensure that her mounts do not shift ground. Jockey JOHNSTON was also advised to ensure that in future at any inquiry he ensures that he supplies all the evidence which he has knowledge of. Casual Unicorn (S.WATKINS) finished a distant last. Jockey S.WATKINS advised that after jumping the horse was laying in and then resented the dirt coming back in its face. He then took the horse wide on the track and he was of the opinion the horse could be lame in the front near side. Owner -Trainer Ms. T.PARRY advised that the horse had lost the off side front plate during the race. Ms. PARRY also advised the horse was having its first start in the west. An inspection by the Veterinary Surgeon confirmed the loss of the shoe but did not reveal any other abnormalities. Apprentice T.MAEDA was distressed after riding Palpitations. MAEDA was subsequently seen by the Q.A.S. OFFICER. RACE 3: CLASS 3 PLATE - 1400 Metres. 8 StartersJockey Ms. R.SEYMOUR replaced Apprentice T.MAEDA, (who was suffering from heat exhaustion), as the rider of Contention. Contention finished a considerable distance from the winner. Jockey Ms. R.SEYMOUR advised that the she experienced difficulties just after the start where she lost ground, which did not involve any other horse or rider. She then had difficulty seeing in the dust which resulted in the horse’s poor performance. The Snowman (Bill SEATON) also finished tailed off and Jockey W.SEATON advised that the horse had travelled well for the first 800 meters. The horse then commenced resenting the dirt coming back on it and the horse then started bumping the fence and wouldn’t travel from that point. The Veterinary Surgeon examined both horses and reported no abnormalities concerning Contention and that The Snowman had suffered minor skin loss to the legs. Trainer R.SEATON advised the horse had not travelled well in the float. RACE 4: OPEN HANDICAP - 1200 Metres. 7 Starters. No incidents. RACE 5: CLASS 5 HANDICAP- 1100 Metres. 8 Starters. No incidents. ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED. GENERAL.
