Race 1: Pluto Pastoral Company Maiden Plate – 1000 metres
1st – Cabinet 2nd – Talk Pretty 3rd – Sunshine Lass 4th – Dalsqualo
Jockey A. Spradau was permitted to ride CLASSIC CADILLAC when no other rider was available.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight Jockey K. Ballard the rider of TALK PRETTY, which was second past the post lodged an objection against CABINET (M. Elliott), which was first past the post. On the grounds that TALK PRETTY had suffered interference from CABINET shortly after the start. After considering the oral evidence of the riders and the video evidence of the patrol footage and bearing in mind the point of the race the incident occurred and the official margin, Stewards could not be satisfied that the interference suffered by TALK PRETTY warranted a reversal of the placings. Subsequently, the objection was dismissed and correct weight declared on the numbers semaphored by the judge.
SHEZACOAT (J. Rudd) proved difficult to load into the barriers and then jumped in the air as the start was affected.
RAGING FORTIES (G. Cullen) was slow to begin.
Near the 700 metres SHEZACOAT improved onto the heels of RAGING FORTIES and had to be steadied.
RAGING FORTIES raced wide rounding the home turn.
Race 2: 5 Star Supermarket Class 5 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – Prince of Yodells 2nd – Raw Nerve 3rd – Mad Music 4th – Big Ethan
Near the 350 metres PRINCE OF YODELLS (K. Ballard) was tightened for room when attempting a run to the outside of ATROCIOUS (W. D’Avila) which shifted out marginally. Jockey D’Avila was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances by ensuring he is clear of other runners when shifting ground.
Jockey A. Spradau was questioned as to the performance of BIG ETHAN. Jockey Spradau expressed his disappointment in the gelding’s performance but could not offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance.
Trainer Ms T. Parry and Jockey K. Ballard were questioned as to the improved performance of the winner PRINCE OF YODELLS. Both were of the view that the gelding appreciated the drop in distance from its previous starts. Their explanations were noted.
Race 3: Richmond Motors Class 2 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st – Paris Icon 2nd – Mount Magic 3rd – Renegades 4th - Zooqalo
D. Ballard was a late riding engagement for GOODTOBETHEKING.
BORIS (J. Esser) underwent a veterinary examination prior to the race and was cleared to take its place in the event.
Rounding the home turn GELATO (W. D’Avila) attempted a narrow run to the inside of BORIS (J. Esser) and made contact with the running rail. Jockey D’Avila was cautioned and advised to ensure there is sufficient room forward of him before attempting to improve his position.
ZOOQALO (A. Spradau) was held up for clear running between the 400m and 300m. Jockey Spradau explained that despite being held up rounding the home turn he was able to obtain clear running between GOODTOBETHEKING (D. Ballard) and BORIS near the 200m at which point ZOOQALO responded well. However, Jockey Spradau felt ZOOQALO then tired on its run over the concluding stages.
Jockey Esser advised that he was instructed to ride BORIS in a forward position but to conserve as much energy as possible as connections were concerned about the gelding running out the 1100 metres. Jockey Esser explained that whilst able to obtain a forward position, he had been challenged for the lead for the majority of the event and as a consequence BORIS weakened in the straight.
Race 4: Suncorp Metway Class 3 Plate – 1400 metres
1st – Just Lust 2nd – Clipsal 3rd – Nifty Nellie 4th – Lucky Omens
STARK RAVEN was declared a late scratching on the advice of the veterinary surgeon. Trainer K. Miller was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required before the gelding would be permitted to race. No deductions were declared as the scratching was announced prior to the commencement of betting.
Apprentice S. Mossman was a late riding engagement for NIFTY NELLIE.
SILENT LIGHTNING (D. Jones) reared as the gates opened and lost ground. Trainer K. Krough was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of SILENT LIGHTNING.
MRSOOTY (J. Rudd) was slow into stride and raced ungenerously in the early stages. Jockey Rudd advised that the gelding appeared somewhat lethargic during the preliminary and in his opinion MRSOOTY failed to handle the quick back-up from its last start on 30 October 2010.
Near the 1200m JUST LUST (D. Ballard) was momentarily crowded for room when FRIDAY CELEBRE (T. Hill) shifted inwards. Jockey Hill was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
