STEWARDS REPORT – FRIDAY 16TH JULY, 1999

STEWARDS: G. RUDOLPH (CHAIRMAN), J. BOON, K. BEAN, N. FOX, G. MEEK (BET/CADET)

WEATHER: FINE TRACK: GOOD

GENERAL
Trainer Mr. E. Wilkinson was fined the sum of $100 for being in breach of LR 43, in that he employed the services of unlicenced person Mr. W. Williams during track work on the mornings of July 7th & 8th.

RACE 1 MAIDEN HCP, 1300 METRES – (9 STARTERS):. HIGH POWERED jumped out at the start and hampered IRISH ROSE resulting in IRISH ROSE being taken out onto KARNATAKA.
A short distance later IRISH ROSE had to be steadied off the heels of HIGH POWERED which again shifted out slightly.
Approaching the 1000 metre mark YESTERDAY’S HERO had to be steadied off the heels of KARNATAKA when the pace slackened at that point.
M. Unwin the rider of STEADFASTLY was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip on that horse when it was deemed to be out of contention.
A. Williams the rider of SYNDICATE was reminded of his obligations to weigh in for 5th when 4th prizemoney is applicable.

RACE 2 2YO MAIDEN HCP, 1200 METRES – (9 STARTERS): TYCOON LULU jumped awkwardly resulting in its rider M. Unwin becoming unbalanced.
ALIAS jumped awkwardly and shifted in taking MISS LAUREN in across the heels of MR. MCGARVA.
Approaching the 800 metre mark DYPSY had to be steadied off the heels of TYCOON LULU which shifted in.
A short distance later SEMBABA had to be steadied and checked across the heels of BIG ‘N’ NOBLE after improving quickly at that point. In this incident DYPSY and EDGED IN BLACK were taken wider on the track.
MISS LAUREN returned to scale with a laceration to the mouth.
A swab sample was taken from the second place getter SEMBABA.

RACE 3 3YO CLASS 3 HCP, 1200 METRES – (7 STARTERS):. M. Unwin replaced S. Lister as the rider of GREENUP STREET due to S. Lister being overweight. Stewards adjourned an inquiry until Saturday the 24th July to question S. Lister in relation to being unable to make the weight on GREENUP STREET.
LOKIE’S COURAGE and GREENUP STREET came together on jumping away.
EVALTER collided with the side of the gate on jumping away and subsequently lost ground.
DARK EYED LADY was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

RACE 4 CLASS 1 HCP, 1200 METRES – (16 STARTERS): Due to A. Lane having transport difficulties on the way to the track G. Booth replaced him as the rider of PIMPALA MAGIC.
At the start WALK IN TIME jumped awkwardly and made contact with QUICK GLORY, resulting in QUICK GLORY taking OLYMPIC ROSE out across the heels of DAKOTA HILLS which jumped inwards.
Approaching the 800 metre mark WARRANULLA was inclined to get its head up and race erratically and shifted out and made contact with BARREL.
Approaching the 500 metre mark NAT had to be checked as a result of GEDO shifting in. A subsequent inquiry, Apprentice S. Quick was severely reprimanded and reminded to make more endeavour to prevent her mount from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 200 metre mark RIDLEY PARK which was tiring was hampered between OLYMPIC ROSE and GEDO which shifted out. Apprentice N. Evans, rider of OLYMPIC ROSE and Apprentice S. Quick, rider of GEDO, were reminded of their obligations to make all endeavours to maintain a straight course while their mounts were tiring.
After the winning post GEDO clipped the heels of RIDLEY PARK which shifted in. Apprentice N. Evans was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances when his mounts shifted ground.

RACE 5 CLASS 4 HCP, 1200 METRES – (8 STARTERS):. KEEANN began awkwardly.
Approaching the 1000 metre mark IRRESPONSIBLE LASS was inclined to lay in for some distance and made contact with MARKILLIES.
Leaving the 900 metre mark IRRESPONSIBLE LASS shifted out and bumped RODEO KID. RHODE’S EXCUSE (NZ) which was following had to be steadied as a result.
Inside the 400 metre mark MARKILLIES shifted in to improve and made heavy contact with IRRESPONSIBLE LASS.

RACE 6 OPEN HCP, 1300 METRES – (13 STARTERS): G. Booth replaced A. Lane as the rider of BELLEVUE KNIGHT.
FORMAL OFFER and YAN YAN ALFIE came together on jumping.
COGNOMEN was slow to begin.
MENDEZ was inclined to race fiercely in the middle stages of the race when the pace slackened.

RACE 7 CLASS 6 HCP, 1600 METRES – (7 STARTERS): G. Booth replaced A. Lane as the rider of MOSSTIQUE.
SPORTY PRINCE jumped awkwardly.
CAUGHT ME and MERINO KING brushed on jumping.
MERINO KING was inclined to hang in over the concluding stages.

RACE 8 CLASS 2 HCP, 1400 METRES – (10 STARTERS): JUBILATE was declared a late scratching at 4.15pm. Stewards have adjourned an inquiry until Friday 23rd July, into the bona fides of the ownership and training of that gelding.
FIANDER jumped in at the start taking JADE LA RAE in onto FJORDANE which shifted out resulting in JADE LA RAE being buffeted for a short distance.
Approaching the 1100 metre mark SERIOUSLY VAIN was inclined to race fiercely and shifted in resulting in LARCOM LADY which was following having to be steadied.
The Stewards have adjourned an inquiry in M. Barnham’s handling of FIANDER in the middle stages of the race until a date to be fixed.

SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed SEMBABA and CHESTER IN CHARGE and those obtained sent to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
BOOKMAKERS: 4 Bookmakers fielded at the meeting.
