STEWARDS REPORT – SATURDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER, 1999

WEATHER: FINE TRACK: GOOD
GENERAL
Apprentice N. Evans was found guilty of a breach of AR87 ( c ) in that he was found at Callaghan Park trackwork in the morning of Thursday the 2nd September, to be riding work without wearing his body protector.
Apprentice Evans was subsequently fined the sum of $200.
Apprentice N. Evans was found guilty of a further charge under AR175 (gg) in that he did make a false declaration to the Chairman of Stewards in relation to the above matter. Apprentice Nathan Evans was fined an additional sum of $200.
RACE 1 3YO MAIDEN HCP, 1100 METRES – (9 STARTERS):..The start was delayed slightly when JESSIE’S STAR was reluctant to be loaded.
Mr. J. Heterick was also questioned in relation to the bridle becoming loose prior to the filly being loaded. Mr. Heterick was advised that in future he was ensure that his gear used on the horse was of an acceptable standard for race day.
A warning was placed on the filly relative to her reluctance to being loaded in the barriers.
JUST A LOVE began awkwardly and FIESAL was slow to begin.
CHEROKEE PRINCE hesitated at the start and shifted out making contact with the hind quarters of KLONDIKE ROAD.
JUST A LOVE was inclined to get its head up and race fiercely near the 950 metre mark.
SIRLAVA was also inclined to race ungenerously in the early stages. SIRLAVA continued to race ungenerously approaching the home turn and from approximately the 400 metre mark to the winning post was inclined to lay in despite the efforts of its rider P. Moodie.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of KLONDIKE ROAD, trainer F. Smith stated that the horse had been gelded since his last start on the 20.2.99 and in his opinion the break from racing had contributed to KLONDIKE ROAD’S improved performance. He was subsequently reminded that now KLONDIKE ROAD had established form that the Stewards would expect the gelding to race consistently.
RACE 2 CLASS 3 HCP, 1100 METRES – (9 STARTERS): MUNDA MAGIC stood flat footed in the barriers and lost considerable ground.
PIPER SANDS jumped out at the start and made contact with NOBLE CENTURY.
When questioned regarding the performance of MUNDA MAGIC particularly in the early stages rider P. Moodie stated that in his opinion the gelding resented a light saddle being used today. Trainer A. Jenkinson stated that the saddle may have pinched MUNDA MAGIC resulting in the gelding being reluctant to stretch out in the early stages of the race. Stewards advised trainer A. Jenkinson that in future he was to use gear which would be suitable to improve the horses performance.
RACE 3 CLASS 2 HCP, 1200 METRES – (6 STARTERS):. AVOLEA jumped awkwardly.
CRYSTAL’S BOY and EDGED IN BLACK bumped on jumping.
A pre-race veterinary inspection of EDGED IN BLACK which dislodged a tooth in the enclosure passed the filly fit to start.
Passing the 900 metre mark WELL OFF was tightened for room and made contact with the running rail when taken in by CRYSTAL’S BOY which was inclined to race ungenerously despite the efforts of its rider apprentice S. Quick.
Passing the 800 metre mark WELL OFF again made contact with the running rail.
Stewards were of the opinion that apprentice S. Quick had made sufficient attempt to rectify the racing manners of CRYSTAL’S BOY and no further action was taken.
RACE 4 CLASS 6 HCP, 1200 METRES – (5 STARTERS): LOKIE’S COURAGE jumped awkwardly and MERINO KING was slow to begin.
Leaving the 400 metre mark MERINO KING was momentarily held up for a clear running and shifted out across the heels of MARKILLIES, making contact with MY STORY in this incident.
RACE 5 MAIDEN HCP, 1408 METRES – (8 STARTERS):. RIVER ROYAL jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Over the concluding stages MISS LAUREN was inclined to shift ground under pressure.
RACE 6 OPEN HCP, 1508 METRES – (8 STARTERS): COGNOMEN jumped awkwardly and shifted out bumping KINGSFIELD LAD.
Passing the 1400 metre mark COGNOMEN got its head up and raced ungenerously due to the lack of pace in the early stages of the race.
Passing the 150 metre mark M.J. Stephens the rider of MR. BOONE accidentally knocked the whip out of the hand of T. Button the rider of PASHANA resulting in T. Button only being able to ride PASHANA out in a hands and heels manner.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of STYLISH LEADER jockey M. Goodwin stated that in his opinion STYLISH LEADER had raced like a tired horse and it was the intention of connections to spell the horse.
RACE 7 CLASS 4 HCP, 1508 METRES – (7 STARTERS):. PEAK SOUND was obliged to race in restricted room a short distance after the start between NEARTIST and SUPER STAN.
GRANDBAR LAD jumped awkwardly and hampered LANZA.
Near the 1100 metre mark PEAK SOUND brushed the running rail of its own accord.
SWABBING: All winners and pre-race swabs were taken from GREENUP STREET and MERINO KING, samples obtained were sent to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
BOOKMAKERS: 7 Bookmakers fielded at the meeting.
