STEWARDS REPORT – 12th OCTOBER, 1999
STEWARDS: G. RUDOLPH (CHAIRMAN), J. BOON, N. FOX, S. BARRETT, G. MEEK (CADET), K. BEAN (BETTING)

WEATHER: FINE TRACK: GOOD

GENERAL

Mr. John Pointon the trainer of HAZY JET was fined the sum of $50 for the ineligible nomination of the mare on Friday 1st October, 1999, in that he had nominated for a 3yo maiden a race for which she was ineligible.

RACE 1 3YO MAIDEN HCP, 1000 METRES – (6 STARTERS): BIG ‘N’ NOBLE dipped on jumping and was slow to begin.
CINDERALLA LASS also jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
VALLOTA and RUNAWAY SPLINTER were slow to begin.
RUNAWAY SPLINTER became unbalanced approaching the home turn and made heavy contact with the running rail.

RACE 2 CLASS 6 HCP, 1000 METRES – (4 STARTERS):.DIRECT WEALTH jumped awkwardly almost dislodging its rider M. Unwin and in doing so shifted out making heavy contact with TRUOKA, resulting in TRUOKA being hampered.
Over the concluding stages CARACAS was inclined to lay in and made contact with DIRECT WEALTH.

RACE 3 CLASS 2 HCP, 1000 METRES – (7 STARTERS):. Mrs Sharon Simpkins the trainer of JENAE JETAE was fined the sum of $25 for failing to amend the stable return for that filly.
OVER THE ODDS was slow to begin, after being hampered by MAHKOTA BERSATU which shifted out..
Passing the 500 metre mark EXPLAINABLE had to be steadied off the heels of JENAE JETAE which shifted in. F. Nightingale the rider of JENAE JETAE was reprimanded and was advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
It was noted that CARING HEART made the home turn awkwardly and was obliged to travel wide entering the straight.

RACE 4 F&M CLASS 4 HCP, 1100 METRES – (11 STARTERS): Due to an error in the racebook D. Evans was incorrectly given as the rider of RAJA’S JET when in fact the rider was apprentice N. Evans.
Passing the 300 metre mark OVER THE ODDS which was commencing to lose ground shifted out and hampered ANITINA. Apprentice Ms G. Wilson the rider of OVER THE ODDS was reminded of her obligations to keep her mounts on a straight course.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of OVER THE ODDS, Ms G Wilson stated that the gelding showed early pace after being hampered at the start. She further added that the gelding failed to respond when placed under pressure, and was beaten before the turn.
A veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormality.
PLUSH LOVER stood in the gates and lost considerable ground on jumping. Mr. K. Fisher the trainer of the filly indicated that he would barrier trial PLUSH LOVER to the satisfaction of Stewards.
Inside the 250 metre mark RAJA’S JET shifted out under pressure taking EDGED IN BLACK wider on the track.
Apprentice N. Evans the rider of RAJA’S JET was advised to exercise care when shifting ground under pressure.
RACE 5 1st DIVISION CLASS 1 HCP, 1300 METRES – (10 STARTERS):. CHARMING GLANCE jumped awkwardly.
CLAYTON’S DAY missed the start slightly.
KLONDIKE ROAD jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 250 metre mark KLONDIKE ROAD shifted out abruptly and hampered LITTLE BY LITTLE.
M. Lehmann the rider of OUT OF PARIS, was questioned regarding the performance of that gelding. He stated that the gelding travelled well until the home turn but felt awkward in his action past the home turn. He stated that he was obliged to travel wide from the home turn when WELL OFF shifted out and then the gelding made the home turn awkwardly and ran wide on the track at that stage. He further added that he was hampered slightly in the running when WELL OFF shifted out slightly however OUT OF PARIS failed to run on when placed under pressure.
A veterinary examination of OUT OF PARIS revealed no abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
Near the 300 metre mark CHARMING GLANCE had to be steadied off the heels of OUT OF PARIS which was taken out be WELL OFF.

RACE 6 2ND DIVISION CLASS 1 HCP, 1300 METRES – (8 STARTERS):.G. Michaels was replaced by R. Mules as the rider of PIPE AND DRUM, due to G. Michaels being indisposed after a trackwork accident.
LATE MAIL jumped awkwardly.
CAMPBELL PARADE over raced in the early stages of the race.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of PARIS BEAU, trainer Mr. J Dieckmann stated that the addition of blinkers today in his opinion assisted the gelding to perform better. He further added that he had changed the geldings preparation and in his opinion he expected a forward showing.
R. Mules the rider of PIPE AND DRUM was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip on that gelding when it was deemed by Stewards to be showing no response.

RACE 7 CLASS 5 HCP, 1300 METRES – (6 STARTERS): ALL OR NOTHING was very slow to begin.
The stable representative of trainer Mr. Henry Forster was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding relative to his barrier manners.
Leaving the 800 metre mark CENTUAL was obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of OPERATION PAYBACK until approximately the 600 metre mark.
C. Clarke the rider of OPERATION PAYBACK was reprimanded and advised that he would be expected to give his fellow riders sufficient racing room.
Close to the finishing post JUST KEN shifted in obliging M. Unwin to stop riding and straighten his mount.

RACE 8 MAIDEN HCP, 1200 METRES – (11 STARTERS): R. Mules replaced G. Michaels as the rider of SPLENDID ECHO.
JUST A TRADE jumped awkwardly.
J. Brown the trainer of BEST ASCENT was fined the sum of $50 for failing to amend the stable return for that gelding.
Stewards questioned R. Mules relative to his ride in the straight on SPLENDID ECHO. R. Mules stated that SPLENDID ECHO travelled ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the race and in his opinion he felt that the mare had broken down near the 300 metre mark. For that reason he failed to exercise any vigour over the concluding stages of the race.
Stewards ordered the club veterinary to examine SPLENDID ECHO subsequent to the race and to perform further examinations up to one hour subsequent to the event.
The club vet advised that SPLENDID ECHO had pulled up with a slight laceration to the off side hind fetlock and the near side fetlock. He further added that after the examination the mare appeared to be sore in the hind quarters.
Trainer Mr. L. Manzelmann was advised that the mare would have to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards and that a veterinary certificate of clearance would be required prior to the mare starting again.

RACE 9 OPEN HCP, 1200 METRES – (10 STARTERS): FINE FABRIC and FIRE FLIGHT jumped awkwardly.
Leaving the 750 metre mark FINE FABRIC commenced to hang slightly.
Apprentice A. Morrison the rider of FINE FABRIC and P. Wheeler the rider of PENNINES were both reminded of their obligations regarding excessive use of the whip on horses out of contention.

SWABBING: All winners and OUT OF PARIS were swabbed and those samples obtained were sent to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
BOOKMAKERS: 5 Bookmakers fielded at the meeting.
