STEWARDS REPORT – 30 OCTOBER, 1999

STEWARDS: J. BOON (CHAIRMAN), G. RUDOLPH, M PEARSON, D DELFORCE, L. FRASER (BETTING)

WEATHER: FINE TRACK: GOOD

RACE 1 MAIDEN HCP, 1100 METRES – (7 STARTERS): GLEN NEDIYM (M. Tarrant) raced greenly down the back straight.

RACE 2 CLASS 1 HCP, 1200 METRES – (11 STARTERS):. DELPHIN (M. Tarrant) jumped awkwardly.

ELECTRIC SKY (P. Wheeler) and SUN BEAUTY (W. Tomsett) brushed on jumping. As a result SUN BEAUTY became unbalanced and was slow to muster early speed.

Approaching the 600 metre mark AGILE MAUD (W. Welburn) commenced to hang.

R. Skinner rider of TICTAC GIRL was advised to exercise care in relation to whip use, pertinent to AR137A part (2) section (a), specifically striking a horse forward of the horses shoulder.


RACE 3 CLASS 5 HCP, 1200 METRES – (7 STARTERS):. Approaching the 800 metres MORE TODAY (M. Unwin) struck the running rail.

Approaching the 750 metres KEN HE TELL (MJ Stephens) had to be steadied off the heels of OPERATION PAYBACK (F. Nightingale) when that gelding shifted in when not quite clear. F. Nightingale was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.

Approaching the 400 metres GRANDBAR LAD (D. Lloyd) had to be steadied off the heels of LIDO’S AFFAIR (W. Tomsett)

RACE 4 OPEN HCP, 1000 METRES – (6 STARTERS):. At the start ROGER’S GOLD (D. Johnston) jumped awkwardly.

FOR YALLAH’S SAKE (M. Goodwin) and BAY POET (G. Wilson) also jumped awkwardly.

Shortly after the start TRUST CLIFF (T. Button) shifted inwards abruptly hampering FOR YALLAH’S SAKE (M. Goodwin), taking that runner in onto FORMAL OFFER (NZ) (M. Unwin) which was hampered and subsequently lost ground.

T. Button rider of TRUST CLIFF, was advised to exercise care with regards to permitting his mounts shift ground.

Near the 600 metre mark ROGER’S GOLD made contact with the hind quarters of TRUST CLIFF resulting in ROGER’S GOLD becoming unbalanced.

RACE 5 CLASS 3 HCP, 1000 METRES – (11 STARTERS):. At the start ROAD TO LAMOUR (D. Johnston) jumped awkwardly.

LITTLE DONNY (M. Goodwin) and COMANCHE WARRIOR (P. Wheeler) brushed on jumping.
At the start SPEED ALERT (B. Appo) jumped inwards bumping HAIL THE PRINCE (F. Nightingale) who in turn came in contact with PIPER SANDS (S. Quick)
Approaching the 600 metre mark WHITE RHINO (MJ Stephens) struck the fence, resulting in that gelding losing ground.

MJ Stephens rider of WHITE RHINO reported to Stewards that his mount was reluctant to race in between runners and it struck the fence of its own accord. He further added that he advised connections that he did not believe that the gelding would be suited to 1000 metre races at Callaghan Park.

RACE 6 CLASS 4 HCP, 1600 METRES – (12 STARTERS):.At the start THARBOGON (G. Evans) jumped outwards making contact with DIAMOND SEA (R. Mules).

WHARF STREET (M. Tarrant) struck the running rail approaching the 1050 metre mark.

Approaching the 1000 metres TENINCA (W. Tomsett) which was racing awkwardly, struck the running rail and shifted out hampering BOUNTY’S LAD (M. Lehmann).

Jockey R. Mules rider of DIAMOND SEA was issued with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift in at a point inside the 100 metres, causing crowding to PARTASAN (MJ Stephens) who in turn made contact with HILARUS (NZ) (M. Unwin). Stewards deemed that R. Mules had shown sufficient effort to try and relieve the situation however further reminded him that if placed in a similar situation they would prefer to see him use corrective measures earlier.

SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and those samples obtained were sent to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
BOOKMAKERS: 7 Bookmakers fielded at the meeting.
