STEWARDS REPORT – FRIDAY 15TH DECEMBER 2000
STEWARDS: D. HENSLER (CHAIRMAN), J. BOON, D. MACKLYN, N. FOX, G. SCOTT (CADET/BETTING), A. RAINSFORD (CADET)
WEATHER: FINE TRACK: GOOD
GENERAL
Trainer M. Stehbens was today fined the sum of $50 for a breach of AR64 in that she had nominated the 4yo mare KATIE in a 3yo Maiden race on the programme of the Rockhampton Jockey Club on December 9, 2000 an event for which the mare was ineligible.

RACING:
RACE 1 MAIDEN PLATE (DIV 1) HCP. 1200 METRES - (10 STARTERS) SCAREM HARUM and PURE ROCK both jumped away awkwardly.
MILLNEM BUD was slow to begin.
When questioned regarding the performance of HEAVEN’S HANDOUT (G. Evans) stated that the gelding travelled comfortably during the early stages but inside the 800 metre position commenced to race ungenerously and when placed under pressure inside the 600 metres commenced to compound. These explanations were noted.
A post race veterinary examination of HEAVEN’S HANDOUT failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 2 MAIDEN PLATE (DIV 2) HCP. 1200 METRES - (11 STARTERS) INDISCREET LOVER jumped out at the start and hampered ACE DARLING.
ON TERMS jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 700 metres ON TERMS (D. Evans) which was racing ungenerously had to be steadied off the heels of ACOBAMBA (J. Piper) which shifted in slightly. J. Piper was advised to exercise care when shifting ground in future.
CORSAIR raced wide around the home turn.
R. Mules the rider of KATIE reported that in his opinion the mare had attempted to swallow its tongue during the event.

RACE 3 CLASS 5 HCP. 1200 METRES - (16 STARTERS) KORUPSII was slow to begin.
Inside the 700 metres TOTAL GLANCE (D. Lloyd) which had commenced to race fiercely shifted out from behind the heels of EL CARGO (G. Evans) and as a result forced HEROIC BOY (Ms M. Allen) and LAVA RUSH (W. Welburn) wider on the track. TOTAL GLANCE continued to race fiercely for some distance following this incident.
Inside the 200 metres EL CARGO (G. Evans) shifted in under pressure and crowded the racing room of BARN DANCE (D. Simmons). G. Evans was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Approaching the 100 metre STORM HALO (N. Evans) shifted out under pressure and momentarily hampered KORUPSII (D. Evans).
C. Beets the rider of DIAMOND DUKE accidentally dropped his whip inside the final 50 metres.
EXPORTING suffered a bleeding attack in this event. Trainer T. Butts’ representative was advised by stewards that the gelding was barred from racing for 3 months under the provisions of AR53b.
Trainer R. McLennan was reprimanded for presenting COUNTY JET in the saddling enclosure without a girth cover.

RACE 4 SUPER QRIS 3YO CLASS 4 HCP 1200 METRES - (9 STARTERS) MISTER ADVANTAGE raced wide in the early stages and middle stages.
Rounding the home turn GROUCHIE PATTERN shifted in and made slight contact with PEGUNNY JET. M. Goodwin the rider of GROUCHIE PATTERN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137a in that inside the 400 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear forcing PEGUNNY JET (W. Tomsett) in onto KENFIRE (M. Unwin). As a result PEGUNNY JET had to be checked by its rider and KENFIRE was severely crowded onto the running rail. M. Goodwins licence to ride in races was suspended for a period 3 Capricornia Racing Association meetings to commence immediately and to expire after the 26th December, 2000.

RACE 5 CLASS 2 HCP. 1000 METRES - (11 STARTERS). Approaching the 500 metres NONO (J. Schlager-Pujolas) shifted in of its own accord and struck the running rail. As a result NONO shifted out abruptly and inconvenienced TORRES DEL FARO.
Inside the 150 metres OMERTA (D. Evans) shifted in under pressure and bumped EXPORT RULER (W. Welburn).
P. Moodie the rider of SATELLITE GIRL was fined the sum of $50 for failing to weigh in as the 5th place getter.

RACE 6 OPEN HCP 1000 METRES - (13 STARTERS) VIDEO SHOT jumped out at the start and crowded ANALYTIC onto FLYING DEAL.
HIGH VALOUR raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 150 metres NEVIJARO (P. Moodie) had to be steadied by its rider after racing up onto the heels of MISTY GREY GIRL (W. Welburn).
A post race veterinary examination of MISTER GREY GIRL revealed the mare to be showing signs of mild leg soreness.

RACE 7 2YO HCP 1100 METRES – (10 STARTERS): NEW YORK CINDY jumped away awkwardly.
TOFU was slow to begin and raced greenly in the early and middle stages.
ROYAL KABALENA was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
Rounding the home turn CONDAMINE LASS (P. Spry) shifted out and when being corrected shifted in and momentarily hampered ANGEL MIST (S. Quick).

RACE 8 CLASS 3 HCP 1600 METRES – (11 STARTERS): The start of this race was delayed after PATIENCE CREEK broke through the barriers and after being restrained returned to take its place in the field.
RUINATION jumped away awkwardly.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted when riding CRYSTAL’S BOY, apprentice Ms M Allen stated that after beginning well she had progressed to a forward position and then was unable to restrain her mount to settle off the lead as she had been instructed to do. She further stated that the gelding continued to race fiercely in the middle stages of the event. Stewards noted these explanations.
Inside the 400 metres GARLANDTOWN BAY (D. Johnston) shifted out to obtain clear running and as a result bumped CRYSTAL’S BOY onto AUSSIE’S MATE (P. Wheeler).

RACE 9 OPEN HCP 1400 METRES – (12 STARTERS): Approaching the 1000 metres SUMO (J. Felix) took charge of its rider and shifted in abruptly resulting in MISTER ZODIAC (D. Simmons) having to be severely checked by its rider. PACKY’S PLOT (J. Piper) which was following was also hampered in this incident. Trainer D. Gardiner was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of SUMO.
RANCHO RED threw its head in the air rounding the 600 metre turn.

BOOKMAKERS: 4 bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

INQUIRY INTO THE REASONS FOR BEEN THERE’S BEST FALLING AT THE 700 METRES AT ROCKHAMPTON RACE 6 CLASS 4 HCP 1200M 24TH NOVEMBER, 2000.

Stewards inquired into the reasons for BEEN THERE’S BEST (Jason Piper) falling at the 700 metres in the Class 4 Hcp, 1200m at the Rockhampton Jockey Club meeting on 24th November, 2000.
Evidence was tendered by Jason Piper, Wayne Tomsett rider of ROUGH ‘EM UP and Wally Welburn rider of SEATTLE TOWN.
It was established that approaching the 700 metres BEEN THERE’S BEST which was over racing, galloped up onto the heels of SEATTLE TOWN resulting in BEEN THERE’S BEST blundering badly with Jason Piper being dislodged. It was noted that Tony McMahon trainer of SEATTLE TOWN, reported to stewards that his gelding had sustained lacerations to the hind legs.
