ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB
STEWARDS REPORT – SATURDAY 24TH MARCH, 2001
STEWARDS: D. HENSLER (CHAIRMAN), N. FOX, D. DELFORCE, K. BEAN (BETTING), N. VAGG (CADET)
WEATHER: FINE. TRACK: GOOD
RACING:
RACE 1 CLASS 3 HCP. 1000 METRES (5 STARTERS) Ms C Johnston the rider of NYORMAN was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137a in that inside the 550 metres she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in NO CHELONA (J. Piper) having to be checked by its rider. Ms C Johnstons’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 Capricornia Racing Association meetings to commence immediately and expire after 31st March, 2001. In arriving at this penalty stewards took into account Ms Johnstons good race riding record. C. Beets the rider of JASON’S PEGASUS was reminded of his obligation not to use an excessive amount of whip when his mounts’ are out of contention.
RACE 2 CLASS 6 HCP. 1300 METRES (6 STARTERS) Upon return to scale a protest was lodged by B. Appo rider of the second place getter HEROIC BOY against the winner QUICK LOVE ridden by C. Beets alleging interference at the 800 metre mark. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol film it was established that approaching the first turn HEROIC BOY was obliged to steady off the heels of QUICK LOVE which shifted in at that point to take up the lead. Stewards were not satisfied that the interference warranted a reversal of placings and the protest was therefore dismissed.
At a subsequent inquiry C. Beets the rider of QUICK LOVE was reminded of his obligations to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
RACE 3 3YO CLASS 3 HCP 1100 METRES (4 STARTERS) Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of GROUCHIE PATTERN in this event. After taking evidence from M. Goodwin, trainer Miss R. Milburn and the race day veterinarian the matter was adjourned to a date and time to be set.
REGAL REVENUE jumped away awkwardly.
RACE 4 OPEN HCP. 1100 METRES (7 STARTERS). Trainer M. Cooney was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for BAY POET by the prescribed time.
TRUST CLIFF threw its head in the air at the start.
BAY POET jumped out at the start and bumped MANAKWILA onto PHAROS’ RULER.
Shortly after entering the straight PHAROS’ RULER (M. Goodwin) shifted out considerable ground when placed under pressure. This resulted in M. Goodwin having to stop riding and attempt to straighten his mount.
RACE 5 MAIDEN PLATE HCP. 1400 METRES (9 STARTERS) As the gates opened the strap on the near side iron on KRISCHENVEEARI broke and as a result its rider Craig Beets was placed at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. As a result approaching the 800 metres KRISCHENVEEARI shifted in and made contact with ZORICA (NZ) (L. Timson). KING’S CREW which was following had to be steadied by its rider.
A short distance later KRISCHENVEEARI again shifted in and made heavy contact with ZORICA (NZ) which in turn shifted in resulting in FORGING’S LASS (M. Goodwin) having to be checked by its rider. Rapid Arch (J. Stephens) which was following was also hampered in this incident.
Leaving the 750 metres KRISCHENVEEARI then shifted out and as a result forced CHEPARIUS (W. Welburn) and DEITY (C. Johnston) wider on the track.
RACE 6 CLASS 2 HCP 1600 METRES (7 STARTERS) THE STIRRER (NZ) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000 metres AQUILA’S REALM and C’MON LARI came together.
Inside the 650 metres AQUILA’S REALM (B. Appo) shifted out and made contact with KEELAWEE ROAD (J. Stephens).

BOOKMAKERS: Six (6) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners and GROUCHIE PATTERN were sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
