STEWARDS REPORT – FRIDAY 13th JULY, 2001

WEATHER: FINE TRACK: GOOD
RACING:
RACE 1 2YO MAIDEN HCP. 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS). MAPPERLEY MISS underwent a veterinary examination prior to the start and was passed fit to race.
INDIAN JADE knuckled over at the start.
TERRY’S SECRET and BONE OF CONTENTION came together as the gates opened.
ZEEBELLE (D. Johnston) commenced to race ungenerously inside the 600 metres.
RACE 2 MAIDEN HCP. 1100 METRES (10 STARTERS) The start of this event was delayed as ALWYN STREET proved difficult to load. Trainer Mr. P. Pengelly was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding relative to it’s barrier manners.
MUSICAL SPIN (M. Lehmann) was obliged to race wide in the early stages.
Approaching the 200 metres MUSICAL SPIN shifted out under pressure and made contact with ALL THINGS (NZ) (C. Beets).
RACE 3 CLASS 3 HCP 1100 METRES (12 STARTERS) OUR CORKY was declared a late scratching at 9.20am on veterinary advice.
ALPAGO and SARANEE both jumped away awkwardly.
CREONA DARKNESS (P. Spry) commenced to over race inside the 700 metres and approaching the 600 metres was obliged to steady off the heels of WINE CLUB.
Inside the 300 metres AUSSIE’S MATE (L. Timson) shifted in under pressure and as a result forced GLENROCK TERRY (C. Beets) in onto CELESTRAL (D. Simmons) which resulted in that runner being crowded in onto EVRY HANDOUT (S. Apthorpe).
Apprentice L. Timson was severely reprimanded over this incident and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
Apprentice D. Evans the rider of ALPAGO accidentally dropped his whip over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SARANEE jockey J. Piper state that it was his intention to ride the filly to a forward position but was unable to cross due to its inclination to hang out. He further stated that the filly continued to hang out from the 600 metres and failed to respond to his riding in the home straight. These explanations were noted. A post race veterinary examination of SARANEE failed to detect any abnormality.
RACE 4 FILLIES & MARES CLASS 2 HCP. 1300 METRES (9 STARTERS). PURR BRIGHT jumped out at the start and made contact with SPYING MISS.
WORLD’S APART jumped away awkwardly.
B. Appo the rider of SPYING MISS was reprimanded for using an unnecessary amount of whip on his horse when it was showing no response.
RACE 5 CLASS 1 HCP. 1200 METRES (15 STARTERS). DELTA PRINCE was declared a late scratching at 7.57am. Trainer Mr. R. Mannion was fined the sum of $200 for failing to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time. In issuing the penalty stewards took into account that the late scratching cost an emergency a run or a place in the field.
SCAREM HARUM jumped away awkwardly.
TRUE GRUNT jumped out at the start and hampered TRAVASH.
Shortly after the start SOK shifted out and made contact with NO SHOW.
MOORABOOL FLYER (Ms L Timson) shifted in on three occasions and struck the running rail in the back straight.
RACE 6 SPECIAL CONDITIONS HCP 1200 METRES (15 STARTERS) GANCIA SOVEREIGN was slow to begin.
HUZZA jumped out at the start and hampered TOPEEM.
Approaching the 600 metres SILK ORGANZA (P. Spry) had to be steadied by its rider after hanging out across the heels of MANAKWILA (W. Welburn).
Inside the final 100 metres CITICHARM (L Timson) was momentarily crowded for room between GANCIA SOVEREIGN (D. Simmons) and KWILA LAD (J. Piper) both of which shifted ground marginally under pressure.
A post race veterinary examination of LET’S EXPLODE revealed the gelding to lame in the near hind leg.
RACE 7 CLASS 5 HCP 1600 METRES (9 STARTERS) BARSAC jumped away awkwardly.
KEN REIGN (D. Evans) was held up for clear running for some distance in the straight.
Approaching the 200 metres BARSAC (J. Piper) shifted in under pressure and momentarily crowded GARUVA (K. Pope).
Trainer Mr. C. Dingley was fined the sum of $50 for failing to lodge an amended stable return for BAM.
RACE 8 OPEN HCP 1500 METRES (10 STARTERS). C. Beets the rider of NORPICK was dislodged from his mount inside the 300 metres. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that C. Beets had initially caught his foot under the front flap of his saddle and when attempting to pull it out his foot slipped out of the stirrup iron. As a result C. Beets lost his balance and fell over the horses near side.
MOVING VIOLATION (D. Simmons) which was following was hampered when attempting to avoid the heels of NORPICK.
BOOKMAKERS: Three (3) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
