STEWARDS REPORT

STEWARDS PANEL: P Cooper (Chairman), J Boon, G Hargraves, G Scott, and G Meek.

WEATHER –Overcast TRACK – Good
RAIL – Short Course – Rail out 3m from 1200m to 400m. True elsewhere.
Long Course – Rail out 3m from 1600m to 1000m. True elsewhere.

RACE 1: MAIDEN H'CAP (1st Div) 1100 metres (12 starters)
Jockey John Stephens was the replacement rider for HUGE MARSCAY after Jockey Matthew Bennett failed to arrive on course by the prescribed time.
At the 950 metre mark LITTLE MORE (App M Allen) laid inwards and had to be restrained.
At approximately the 600 metre mark EVER REGAL (M Evans) improved onto the heels of PACK OF GOLD (App D Evans) and had to be steadied.
Jockey John Stephens the rider of HUGE MARSCAY was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under the terms of AR137(a) in that at approximately the 900 metre mark he permitted his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of WESTERN LADY (App F Okawa) resulting in that horse being checked and striking the running rail heavily and losing its position in the field. Subsequently Jockey Stephens’ permit to ride in races was suspended from midnight 25th June 2002 up to and including 12th July 2002 being a period covered by three Capricorn meetings.

RACE 2: MAIDEN H'CAP – (2nd Div) 1100 metres (12 starters)
Jockey M Bennett was the replacement rider for BLACK BILLY when the declared rider Andre Gillett failed to make the allotted weight. Jockey Gillett was fined the sum of $100 under the terms of AR120(b).
As the gates opened GOD BLESS HIM (App J Dagan) was slow into stride.
At approximately the 1000mtr mark BLACK BILLY (M Bennett) was steadied when KYLEE MARLENA (G Evans) laid inwards.
At the 900 metre mark STANSUNIQUE (C Beets) brushed the running rail.
GOD BLESS HIM (App John Dagan) was inconvenienced over the concluding stages of the race when attempting to obtain a clear run.

RACE 3: CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1100 METRES (14 STARTERS)
No incidents in the running.

RACE 4: SPECIAL CONDITIONS H'CAP – 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS)
Jockey B Appo was the replacement rider for OVER THE ODDS when the declared rider Andre Gillett failed to make the allotted weight. Jockey Gillett was fined $50 under the provisions of AR120(b).
As the start was affected KNUCKLE UP (D Whitmore) jumped away awkwardly, and OVER THE ODDS (B Appo) was slow into stride.
SCENIC GEM (App T Mathieson) was checked at the 850 metre mark. After taking evidence from the riders involved the Stewards gave Jockey T Pattillo the benefit of a grave doubt. The Stewards established that GRAND BATAAN (T Pattillo) had shifted in at that point, however it was noted that NOOPY (App D Evans) may have shifted out at the same time.

RACE 5: CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200 METRES (16 STARTERS)
As the start was affected LATE WARRIOR (App B Dieckmann) jumped inwards making contact with MACGNOME (C Beets) who in turn shifted inwards and made contact with EDGEROI ADAM (D Whitmore).
GEDO (App L Timson) over raced in the middle stages of the event.

RACE 6: 2YO H'CAP – 1200 METRES (15 STARTERS)
As the start was affected HIT THE KICK (S Maloney) jumped outwards and made contact with HAWATINSK (D Simmons).
KENVAL (D Whitmore) was slow into stride.
LEEARTO (A Gillett) over raced at approximately the 1000 metre mark.
HIT THE KICK (S Maloney) was steadied at the 900 metre mark when the leader slowed the pace.
LAURISTAN (App J Dagan) hung outwards at the 800 metre mark and had to be restrained.
At approximately the 300 metre mark LEEARTO (A Gillett) shifted outwards abruptly and cannoned into CHARUBY (S Apthorpe). Stewards advised Jockey Gillett to show more care in the future.

RACE 7: OPEN H'CAP – 1200 METRES (9 STARTERS)
CITICHARM (M Bennett) was inspected by the club’s veterinary surgeon prior to being loaded into the barriers. No abnormalities were found and the horse was passed to resume its place with the field.
Jockey B Appo was the replacement rider for FESTIVE NIGHT when the declared rider D Lloyd failed to make the allotted weight. Jockey Lloyd was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR120(b).
As the start was affected ABBA JET (J Stephens) jumped inwards and cannoned into MONTROSE BILL (D Whitmore).
REGAL REGARD (App M Allen) raced fiercely in the early to middle stages of the event.

RACE 8: CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400 METRES (15 STARTERS)
Jockey J Piper was the replacement rider for RAPID CITY when the declared rider D Lloyd failed to make the allotted weight.
UPHOLD (App D Johnston) reared as the start was affected.
At the 1100 metre mark CROSSBLETCH (C Beets) raced ungenerously which resulted in EEM CEE GEE (D Whitmore) being taken inwards and hampering the running of UPHOLD (App D Johnston).

RACE 9 CLASS 5 HCP. 1600 METRES (15 STARTERS)
Jockey G Evans was the replacement rider for TRUE ENOUGH when the declared rider A Pattillo became indisposed.
As the start was affected TRUE ENOUGH (G Evans) was slow into stride.
SIR LOUIS (App L Timson) hung inwards at the 1100 metre mark and inconvenienced the running of BONZERO (S Maloney).
At the 400 metre mark TRANSPOSE (App D Evans) shifted outwards dictating the line of CULOTTES (J Stephens) which further resulted in MISTLAK (M Evans) shying outwards thereby inconveniencing the running of STARRY SYMBOL (A Gillett) which further shifted outwards hampering the running of TOPAZIOS (C Beets) which in turn inconvenienced SIR LOUIS (App L Timson).

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
