STEWARDS REPORT – THURSDAY, 17th October 2002

WEATHER –Fine TRACK – Good
RAIL – Short and Long Courses – TRUE POSITION

GENERAL:
Jockey A Gillett was fined $50 under AR8d for smoking in the Jockeys Room.

RACE 1: OPEN H'CAP – 1800 METRES (7 STARTERS)
The start of this race was delayed due to a malfunction in the photo-finish.
Near the 500 metres GLOWING PROFIT (A Gillett) shifted in of its own accord and brushed the running rail and became unbalanced.
App Tracy Mathieson was fined $50 under AR92(12) for failing to claim her full allowance.
Trainer Denis Durand was fined $50 under LR70(1) for the late declaration of Jarrad Marks as the rider for his horse JAAZEIRO.

RACE 2: MAIDEN H'CAP – 1100 METRES (13 STARTERS)
At the start STYLISH PAT (G Bannister) and TYCOON TED (ML Evans) came together.
Soon after jumping TEPEQUAR (A Gillett) raced greenly and shifted in and away from TYCON TED (ML Evans).
TYCOON TED (ML Evans) raced fiercely in the early and middle stages of the event and near the 700 metre mark shifted out and bumped SET AND BET (D Whitmore).
App D Evans, the rider of PICNIC POINT was reminded of his obligations to keep his mount straight as over the concluding stages of the event he permitted his mount to shift out and hamper SET AND BET (D Whitmore) which was also inclined to race greenly.
DON’T COMPLAIN (David Rewald) lost its off hind plate in running.
A post-race veterinary inspection of CECIL BEE which was ridden by Darren Rewald revealed that this gelding to have suffered superficial lacerations to its near hind cannon and fetlock.

RACE 3: CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1100 METRES (10 STARTERS)
At the start WESTERN JACQ (D Simmons) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with MACGNOME (C Beets).
CANADIAN MAPLE (M Unwin) was inclined to hang in throughout running.
Near the 700 metre mark STREET BIRD (App L Timson) blundered badly of its own accord.
A post-race veterinary inspection of STREET BIRD failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4: 3YO CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200 METRES (9 STARTERS)
Approaching the 800 metres LAURISTAN (App D Johnston) momentarily shifted in and tightened the running of IRIANA STAR (D Simmons).
Rounding the hometurn WYNYA (C Beets) had difficulty in obtaining clear running.

RACE 5: SPECIAL CONDITIONS H'CAP – 1200 METRES (8 STARTERS)
MAO’S IMAGE (M Bennett) was a late scratching at the barriers on veterinary advice at 3.20pm. Deductions of 10 cents a win and 10 cents a place on the face value of winning tickets were declared.
Approaching the 200 metres BLAZING KALA (App Dale Evans) had difficulty obtaining clear running between GO ROCKY (J Stephens) and CITICHARM (D Whitmore).

RACE 6: FILLIES & MARES CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1300 METRES (9 STARTERS)
M Unwin replaced A Gillett as the rider for WHISKY A POPO in this event when Jockey Gillett failed to make the weight. In accordance with AR120(b) Jockey A Gillett was fined the sum of $100.
DECORAIGH (C Beets) jumped away awkwardly.
BIKINI LOVE (S Watkin) was slow away.
TIN PAN ALLEY (J Stephens) raced fiercely in the early stages of the event and near the 800 metres shifted out and bumped TYPHOON SUSIE (D Johnston).
App D Evans was reprimanded for showing insufficient effort in preventing his mount CONEEDA from shifting in near the 500 metres which resulted in BIKINI LOVE (S Watkin) being tightened for room and having to check his mount.

RACE 7:CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1595 METRES (9 STARTERS)
THE STIRRER (NZ) (J Marks) jumped awkwardly and made heavy contact with LADY PATILLA (App L Timson) and shortly after continued to shift out and hampered LADY PATTILLA.

RACE 8: CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1595 METRES (10 STARTERS)
TEDDY’S LUCK (App H Watanabe) was slow away.
App H Watanabe was cautioned for permitting his mount to shift out over the concluding stages which resulted in EYE CATCHING (D Simmons) being taken wider on the track.
Near the 100 metres TROBOK TOWER (J Marks) which was attempting a run between ASSIGN (S Quick) and DANZINA (App D Evans) to his outside clipped the heels of ASSIGN and blundered badly dislodging its rider Jarrod Marks. The Stewards were of the opinion that after making slight contact with DANZINA which had shifted in slightly, TROBOK TOWER then shifted in and away from that horse when being hard ridden hard, whilst at the same time ASSIGN had shifted out. Whilst no one jockey was found to be wholly at fault no further action was taken other than to caution S Quick and J Marks to make more of an effort to keep their mounts straight.
