STEWARDS REPORT – SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1 2003

STEWARDS PANEL: P Cooper (Chairman), G Wust, G Scott & C Harris (Cadet).

WEATHER – Overcast TRACK – Good
RAIL – Short Course – Rail out 2m from 1300m to 800m. Out 4m from 800m – 400m.
Long Course – Rail out 3m from the 700m – 400. Cutaway at the 400m.

RACE 1: CLASS 1 H'CAP – ABT 1600M (9 STARTERS)
As the start was effected COUNTESS LOU (App N Nelson) jumped away awkwardly.
At approximately the 1000 metre mark BIG SHOT (D Whitmore) laid in and made contact with BOURBONNAIS (App D Johnston).
SCOOBIE SNX (NZ) (S Quick) over-raced in the early stages of the event.
It was reported by Jockey G Evans that his mount IL PRESIDENT pulled hard early in the event and failed to run on.
App B Dieckmann, the rider of WILD WATERS was charged with a breach of AR92(12) and was subsequently fined $50 for failing to claim his full allowance.

RACE 2: CLASS 5 H'CAP – ABT 1400M (9 STARTERS)
App B Dieckmann was stood down for the remainder of the meeting by order of the Stewards and was replaced as the rider of ELECT A SONG by App N Nelson. Stewards ordered that App Dieckmann must obtain a complete medical clearance before resuming riding.
On returning to the scale a protest was lodged by Apprentice Darryl Johnston the rider of CENTURY SUNSET placed fourth past the post by the Judge on the grounds of alleged interference at the 300mtr mark by ELECT A SONG (App N Nelson) placed third past the post by the Judge. After hearing evidence from the riders and connections of both horses, the Stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judges Placings. At a subsequent inquiry Stewards reprimanded Apprentice Nelson for allowing her mount to shift in and cause minor inconvenience to CENTURY SUNSET (App D Johnston).
As the start was effected ALLIE BOB (App H Watanabe) stood flatfooted and lost considerable ground.
At approximately the 1000 mark ELECT A SONG (App N Nelson) shifted inwards and inconvenienced the running of STEEL STARS (S Quick). Stewards issued a reprimand to Apprentice N Nelson and advised her to show more care in the future.
At approximately the 800 metre mark STUDLEY ROYAL (NZ) (App T Mathieson) struck the running rail.

RACE 3: MAIDEN H'CAP - ABT 1200 METRES (9 STARTERS)
App T Mathieson replaced App B Dieckmann as the rider of SLASHED.
At approximately the 1000 metre mark PANAGIA (T Kruger) shifted inwards and made contact with FOXY LOCH (S Quick).
SLASHED (App T Mathieson) laid in over the concluding stages of the event which placed the rider in difficulty to ride the mount out to the winning post.

RACE 4: OPEN H'CAP – ABT 1300 METRES (6 STARTERS)
App T Mathieson was the replacement rider for NORPICK replacing App B Dieckmann.
Stewards ordered that CLOSING TIME be a late scratching at 1.05pm due to the horses ownership papers were not in order.
As the gates opened QUICK LOVE (J Piper) jumped inwards and made heavy contact with NORPICK (App T Mathieson) who in turn shifted inwards and made minor contact with PASSER PASSION (M Barnham).

RACE 5: CLASS 3 H'CAP – ABT 1100 METRES (10 STARTERS)
App T Mathieson was the replacement rider for AFTER YOU replacing App B Dieckmann.
TOUCHE TURTLE (C Johnston) was steadied when rounding the home turn. Stewards admonished Jockey C Johnston the rider of TOUCHE TURTLE for using her whip in an excessive manner over the concluding stages of the event.
SMART SET (D Whitmore) laid inwards over the final stages of the event.
AFTER YOU (App T Mathieson) returned to the enclosure with the presence of blood in both nostrils. Trainer A Jones was advised that acting under the terms of AR53A AFTER YOU is now barred from racing for a period of three (3) calendar months.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.

BOOKMAKERS: Five (5) Bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
