WEATHER – Fine TRACK – Good
RAIL – Short Course Out 3m 1200 metres – 800 metres. True elsewhere
Long Course Out 3m 1600 metres – 400 metres. Cutaway at 400 metres.
GENERAL REPORT;
Trainer G Neale fined $50 failing to declare rider on GOD BLESS HIM. (LR70)
Trainer G Laming fined $50 failing to declare rider on RATTAN. (LR70)
RACE 1: 2 Y O Maiden Handicap – 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS)
MIDNIGHT PILL (J Dagan) slowly away.
FIRECRACKER (D Tanti) reluctant to load. Trainer A Jenkinson advised that would require a new barrier certificate prior to renominating.
STORM LIGHT (G Booth) raced greenly throughout. Trainer David Stafford advised that STORM LIGHT would be required to barrier trail over 900m to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to renominating.
Jockey Matthew Bennett returned to scale at 55.75kg after weighing out at 55.4kg. It was found that a towel had been added by barrier staff as insufficient packing had been weighed out for that horse. Stewards were of the opinion that had the correct gear been weighed out with the horse Matthew Bennett would have been unable to make the correct weight and should not have taken the ride. Matthew Bennett was fined $100 (AR145).
RACE 2: CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1000 METRES (10 STARTERS)
MY TRUE NORTH (G Booth) reluctant to load.
SOLID REASON (G Michaels) fractious in the barriers throwing G Michaels into an adjoining stall. The horse blundered on jumping and lugged out on the home turn onto the heels of BAA HA (R Barone). Trainer L Manzelmann was advised that the horse would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards before renominating.
An enquiry was conducted into an incident at about the 150m in which CRAIGLEA GREEN
(T Kruger) and BA HAA (R Barone) were forced to ease. D Tanti, the rider of MAPPERLEY MAGIC was issued with a reprimand for allowing his mount to drift in and apprentice T Mathieson was issued with a severe reprimand for allowing JOAN’S CHOICE to drift out at that point thereby causing those two horses to be eased..
RACE 3: CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS)
MAC’S FORTUNE (R Goltz) jumped outwards coming into contact with TIO RAMA (S Watkins) pushing that horse out onto RUSTY REGAL (H Watanabe).
MAC’S FORTUNE rolled in on the home turn for no apparent reason and struck the fence quite heavily.
RACE 4: MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200 METRES (16 STARTERS)
KAAPALEC (G Booth) jumped outwards and LONELY CHARMER (E Hooper) jumped inwards causing GOD BLESS HIM, which was drawn between those horses, to be checked and lose considerable ground.
KAAPALEC overaced from the 800m to the 600m.
MISS FONTEYN (B Rhodes) rolled into the fence on the home turn of its own accord.
FODE AND BEED shifted ground approaching the 800m and caused JEWEL OF NEDIYM (J Dagan) to be inconvenienced. After leaving the 800m FODE AND BEED commenced to lug out badly and approaching the 600m came into contact with with JEWEL OF NEDIYM and SIR HUNDRED PIPERS (H Watanabe) causing those horses to be hampered. Jockey M Bennett advised stewards that he felt he had little control of the horse and eased it out of the race. Trainer Andrew Williamson was advised that FODE AND BEED would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards before renominating.
RACE 5: CLASS 6 PLATE – 1200 METRES (13 STARTERS)
NEGATE (NZ) (D Tanti) overaced from the 1000m to the 800m and struck the fence when being restrained to avoid the heels of NED’S MUSIC (T Kruger).
RACE 6: CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1300 METRES (16 STARTERS)
KIRLANILAD (G Booth) slowly away.
LA POLENTA (D Tanti) jumped inwards and PEACE DANCE (A Pattillo) jumped outwards causing VARPECK (M Gray) to be inconvenienced and lose ground.
Stewards enquired into the poor performance of SLOUCH. Jockey M Bennett stated that the horse showed no early pace and failed to run on in the straight. Trainer M Crouch stated that he had instructed jockey M Bennett to settle the horse in the early stages but he was disappointed with its run as he had supported the horse. A veterinary examination of the horse revealed no obvious abnormalities other than an increased respiration rate. Connections were advised that future runs of that horse would be monitored.
RACE 7: CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1400 METRES (15 STARTERS)
ASSIGN (G Booth) slowly away.
LATE WARRIOR (S Watkin) jumped awkwardly losing ground.
RACE 8: OPEN H'CAP – 1400 METRES (13 STARTERS)
IN THE DISTANCE (J Stanley) jumped outwards and STUDLEY ROYAL (B Rhodes) jumped inwards causing BRILYNTON (M Bennett), which was drawn between those horses, to be checked and lose ground.
ROMA LAD (S Watkins) slowly away.
IN THE DISTANCE hung from the 1000m.
B Rhodes was spoken to by stewards regarding his riding style over the concluding stages.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
FOUR (4) BOOKMAKERS FIELDED AT THE MEETING.
