RACE 2: COAL & FREIGHT SERVICES CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1200M

SILLY MISTAKE G Michaels

J Cairns was fined the sum of $50.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by G Michaels, the rider of 3rd placegetter SILLY MISTAKE, against IT ALL ADDS UP being declared the winner, alleging interference at the 900m. After taking evidence from all parties involved it was established that at the 900m SILLY MISTAKE had to be checked and lost ground when tightened for room by IT ALL ADDS UP, which shifted in. However, having regard to the margin between the two horses at the finish, stewards dismissed the protest and ordered that the placings stand.

App T Mathieson, rider of IT ALL ADDS UP, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that she permitted her mount to shift in near the 900m when not sufficiently clear of SILLY MISTAKE, which resulted in SILLY MISTAKE having to be checked and lose ground. App T Mathieson was suspended from riding in races for a period of 2 meetings to commence at midnight on Tuesday, 12th August, 2003 and to expire at midnight Tuesday, 19th August, 2003. In assessing the penalty the stewards took into account App T Mathieson good riding record.
