R Mules indisposed due to track mishap at Mackay.
Replaced by D Whitmore on TOPAZIOS in Race 1.
Replaced by G Evans on LA POLENTA in Race 5.
Replaced by P Hammersley on STRAIGHT AFFAIRE in Race 6.
David Simmons due to track mishap.
Replaced by D Rewald on LATE WARRIOR in Race 6.
Replaced by W Binder on GLOWING PROFIT in Race 8.
M Unwin unavailable due to family illness.

A letter from Veterinarian Hayley Webster indicated that PALMA STAR trained by Kerrod Smyth had been suffering from a swelling on the neck brought about by an injection on the 28th July 2003. Although the letter indicated that a full recovery was probable, Stewards ordered a veterinary inspection of PALMASTAR prior to starting. No abnormalities were detected and the horse was passed to start.
RACE 1: CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1100M
Trainer A Stephens and owner G Morrow advised Stewards that they did not want the whip used on FROSTY STAR as the horse had reacted badly to its use at previous starts.
SYDNEY SIDER (L Timson) jumped in and crowded MASTER OF SPEED (S Quick).
TOPAZIOS (D Whitmore) jumped in the air as the gates opened.
An inquiry was held into an incident at about the 150 metres in which HEYA PAL (B Appo) shifted out to WILD WATERS (C Beets). B Appo put the whip away and straightened his mount immediately. Stewards took no action.
RACE 2: CLASS 3 PLATE – 1100M
When it was found that Peter Bell the trainer of SAHARA MACA was not present on the track due to illness, Stewards permitted stable hand Kevin Bathis to take control of his horses.
PLEASE WAIT (B Appo) shifted out onto PIMPALA TORI (D Whitmore) at about the 200 metres. Stewards reprimanded B Appo.
RACE 3: MAIDEN PLATE SET WEIGHTS – 1000M
Following an incident in the mounting yard in which STORM LIGHT blundered striking its head, that horse was examined by the veterinarian and cleared to start.
COMINCIATO (D Johnston) broke through the barriers prior to the start, was quickly restrained and took its place in the field.
PALMASTAR (S Quick) broke through the barriers prior to the start, was quickly restrained and took its place in the field.
As the gates opened FACIAL (M Barnham) and DUST CHILD (D Tanti) came together.
PALMASTAR (S Quick) jumped out on to KOREKORE (C Beets).
JOFFA’S APPEAL (L Timson) lugged out over the concluding stages of the race despite the best efforts of its rider.
FACIAL shifted away from JOFFA’S APPEAL over the concluding stages.
DUST CHILD (T Tanti) was uncompetitive in the race and a veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
RACE 4: SPECIAL CONDITION H'CAP – 1200M
CAPANNELLE (D Whitmore) stood flatfooted losing ground.
RACE 5: CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M
Stewards scratched PANAGIA at 1.15pm due to an ownership dispute involving that horse.
Trainer Garnet Taylor was reprimanded for not having SIMON WATCH in its stall by the required time.
BON SIMONE (B Appo) attempted to buck for the first 100 metres and was pulled up. Trainer J Wigginton was advised that BON SIMONE would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being allowed to start again.
RACE 6: CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1800M
GNAEUS POMPEIUS (NZ) (B Appo) jumped in the air.
RACE 7: CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1400M
STARRY SYMBOLS (G Booth) slowly away.
MILLERS GUIDE (P Hammersley) jumped inwards and further inconvenienced STARRY SYMBOLS.
FRISKY BUSINESS (S Quick) shifted out the concluding stages.
RACE 8: OPEN WFA – 1400M
The book distance was corrected to 1400 metres as per the calendar.
GLOWING PROFIT (W Binder) slowly away.
EVIL SNIP (A Lane) jumped inwards in to DEMON JACK (C Beets).
At about the 500 metres EXECUTIVE ROOM (P Hammersley) rolled out slightly and at the same time EVIL SNIP (A Lane) shifted in slightly and in doing so inconvenienced CORD (D Johnston).
FOUR (4) BOOKMAKERS FIELDED.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
