WEATHER –FINE TRACK – GOOD
RAIL – Short Course – Out 3m from 1300m to 800m. Out 2m from 800m to winning post.
RAIL – Long Course – Out 5m from 800m to 400m. Cutaway at 400m.
GENERAL
Apprentice T Mathieson reported indisposed.
Replaced by J Dagan on RITE TO SUCCESS in Race 2.
Replaced by L Timson on CHIEF FLYING HORSE in Race 4.
Replaced by J Dagan on PLAY THE ROLE in Race 6.
Replaced by C Beets on WILD WATERS in Race 8.
RACE 1: OPEN WFA H’CAP – 1400M
Shortly after straightening TALE OF TRIOMPHE (D Simmons) shifted out and bumped LAURINEL IMPULSE (D Johnston) on two occasions. D Simmons the rider of TALE OF TRIOMPHE was reprimanded for the incident.
RACE 2: CLASS 5 HCP – 1400M
As the gates opened TYCOON TED (M Evans) jumped in the air losing ground and raced awkwardly for some distance.
Whilst being restrained at about the 1200 metres ST. COLUMBANS (G Booth) threw it’s head in the air giving G Booth an uncomfortable ride.
Approaching the winning post RITE TO SUCCESS (J Dagan) shifted out slightly coming into contact with TYCOON TED.
During the running of the race TYCOON TED lost an off hind shoe.
RACE 3: OPEN WFA H’CAP – 1100M
WITH CAUSE (L Timson) jumped outwards causing WESTERN BRONZE (M Goodwin), which was slow, to change course across its heels.
At about the 1000 metres WITH CAUSE ducked out sharply of its own accord. No inconvenience caused to any other runner.
When being restrained shortly after the start ESPIRE (D Johnston) threw its head in the air. Stewards questioned D Johnston over his riding tactics on ESPIRE. He told Stewards he had been instructed not to lead and when placed under pressure the horse failed to run on. His explanation was noted.
RACE 4: CLASS 1 HCP – 1000M
RURAL SONG (M Evans) was hard to load and then sat down in the boxes. As the gates opened RURAL SONG reared high, sat down in the boxes and failed to jump. After questioning the starter and jockey Michael Evans, RURAL SONG was declared a starter. Stewards advised the connections of RURAL SONG that the horse would be required to barrier trail on two occasions to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again.
RACE 5: QTIS CLASS 2 H’CAP– 1300M
RED MOUNTAIN (N Evans) reared as the gates opened losing ground.
FLEET STREET (J Stephens) was slowly away.
An inquiry was held into an incident at about the 850 metres in which SOPHIE’S LAD (H Watanabe) and YO KIDOKI (D Johnston) were forced to ease when SULVA BAY (M Goodwin) eased the pace. M Goodwin was warned to take more care when attempting to ease the pace.
RED MOUNTAIN struck the fence of its own accord approaching the home turn.
RACE 6: MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
ONYA (M Evans) was slowly away.
KAAPRIOLA (N Evans) was slowly away.
RACE 7: MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
RICKABY CREEK (D Simmons) was slowly away and raced ungenerously.
DUFFIELDS DANE (A Lane) was slowly away.
RACE 8: CLASS 2 HCP – 1200M
N Evans replaced A Lane as the rider of FINAL SUITE when it was found that A Lane, who could not make the weight, had been declared for the ride by Trainer L Manzelmann without reference to jockey A Lane. Trainer L Manzelmann was fined $50.00.
HUMPTY DOO HARRY (H Watanabe) jumped outwards coming into contact with FINAL SUITE (N Evans).
PICNIC POINT (M Evans) jumped outwards coming into contact with LA POLENTA (J P Stanley).
An inquiry was held into an incident at about the 850-metre mark in which FACIAL (M Barnham), WILD WATERS (C Beets) and ELUSIVE DIAMOND (G Michaels) were forced to check and lose ground. D Whitmore the rider of ADELONG pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding and was suspended from riding in races from the 21st September 2003 up to and including the 3rd October 2003.
An inquiry was held into an incident at about the 750-metre mark in which ADELONG (D Whitmore) was forced to check and lose ground. M Evans the rider of PICNIC POINT was charged with careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in and dictate to ADELONG causing that horse to be taken in and be checked. Stewards found M Evans guilty and suspended him from riding in races from 21/9/2003 up to and including 3/10/2003.
RACE 9: CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1200M
TRUE ENOUGH (L Timson) slowly away.
QUESADILLA (D Simmons) hung throughout.
FROSTY STAR (J Stephens) over raced in the early and middle stages of the race.
LOUISVILLE LIP (S Quick) raced keenly and gave its rider a difficult ride in the early stages.
THREE (3) BOOKMAKERS FIELDED.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
