STEWARDS REPORT 28th October 2003

STEWARDS PANEL: J Wallis (Chairman), R Doyle, G Meek, B Carrigg, N Fox, J Unwin (swab)

WEATHER –FINE TRACK – DEAD

RAIL – True – Short Course
RAIL – True – Long Course

RACE 1: CLASS 5 HCP – 1000M
Trainer J Sigvart requested that FAMA (N Day) be permitted to race back in the field. The request was granted.
COOLANGATTA (C Beets) was slow into stride.
MOORABOOL FLYER (L Timson) hit the fence on two occasions at the 600 metre and 450 metre marks.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of IMA BARON, S Quick stated that she felt the horse did not stretch out on the dead track and was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages. Explanation noted.
Trainer T Crane was fined $100 for late arrival on course.

RACE 2: CLASS 1 HCP – 1000M
MOON JET (J Stanley) jumped in at the start coming into minor contact with HOME RUN (R Mules).
Jockey D Whitmore reported to Stewards that he felt ASPILA had lost ground when she hit a wet patch at the 650-metre mark.

RACE 3: CLASS 6 HCP – 1300M
TYCOON TED (L Timson) was a late scratching at 1.56pm by order of the Stewards when he refused to load into the barriers. Trainer K Smyth was advised that TYCOON TED would be required to pass a further barrier test prior to renominating. On announcement of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on TYCOON TED be refunded with deductions of 12 cents in the $ for the win and 14 cents in the $ for the place value of tickets applicable.
As Jockey A Lane was indisposed, Stewards permitted the riding replacement of J P Stanley on STAR OF CLANG.
STAR OF CLANG (J Stanley) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of NOD OF APPROVAL (M Goodwin) which shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Trainer R Vale was advised MUSTANG RULER would require a barrier test before next nominating as the horse held up the start by being reluctant to load.

RACE 4: 3YO CLASS 1 HCP – 1200M
ROSIELEE MISS (C Beets) was a late scratching at 2.30pm by order of the Stewards when he refused to load into the barriers. Trainer L Sullivan was advised that ROSIELEE MISS (C Beets) would be required to pass a further barrier test prior to renominating. On announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ROSIELEE MISS be refunded with deductions of 12 cents in the $ for win, and 11 cents in the $ for place value of tickets applicable.
As Jockey A Lane was indisposed Stewards permitted the riding replacement of D Whitmore on CAPTAIN SLASH.
After leaving the 1000 metre mark JUMPIN’ JARED (S Quick) had to be eased off the heels of RERUN (M Unwin).
MERCHANDISE (M Goodwin) jumped in at the start coming into minor contact with MR AVALANCHE (J Stanley).

RACE 5: CLASS 3 HCP – 1200M
No incidents.

RACE 6: MAIDEN HCP – 1200M
As D Johnson was to be overweight the following riding replacement was approved – CHUNG LING M Unwin. Jockey D Johnson was fined $100 AR120(b).
DEVINE POWER (NZ) and WORTHY PRINCE were cramped for galloping room when VALHULLA (J Stephens) shifted in sharply at the 1000 metre mark.

RACE 7: OPEN (WFA) – 1000M
CAPANNELLE (J Stephens) had to be steadied over the concluding stages when STOP WATCH (L Timson) shifted out and ALTISSIMO ROSE (H Watanabe) shifted in.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WESTERN BRACE M Goodwin stated that the horse travelled well throughout the event and was held up for clear running on the home turn however when placed under pressure in the straight he failed to run on.

RACE 8: CLASS 1 HCP – 1400M
TURF BLAZER (E Hooper) jumped in at the start making heavy contact with MISS FONTEYN (H Watanabe).
VAIN VYNER (NZ) (M Unwin) had to be steadied at the 1000 metre mark to avoid the heels of OUTBACK EIRE (M Evans) which shifted in.

FOUR (4) BOOKMAKERS FIELDED.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
