ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB STEWARDS REPORT
Friday 28th May 2004

Stewards: J Wallis, R Doyle, D Macklyn, N Fox, H Lewandowsky (swab)

Rail: Short Course: Out 4 metres from 1300 metres to 400 metres. Out 3 metres remainder.
Long Course: Out 3 metres entire circumference.

Weather: Fine Track: Good

Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres
Start delayed 7 minutes due to late arrival of ambulance.
Approaching the 700metre mark WOKE UP BROKE (S Quick) raced greenly shifting out coming into contact with SNIPONAIR (C Beets) causing that horse to shift out wider on the turn.
At about the 200metre mark SMEE (G Booth) shifted in under pressure causing ELECTRICAL RHYTHM (D Johnston) to be steadied. In steadying, that horse rolled in making contact with REGAL GOVERNOR (R Barone).
MERTHYR (M Barnham) raced greenly throughout.

Race 2: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1100 metres
At the start:
ADMIRALADY (R Barone) jumped awkwardly.
GALWAY DRIFTER (D Evans) jumped inwards coming into contact with MISS WINEMAKER (B Rhodes) inconveniencing that horse.
HOLLY BUSH HONEY (S Quick) jumped awkwardly.
RED GOER (M Rice) jumped outwards.
NORTHERN ROCKET (L Morrison) jumped inwards hampering OOLINE (C Bryen).
An inquiry was opened into an incident at about the 700metres in which ADMIRALDY (R Barone) lost ground. Apprentice Jockey C Bryen the rider of OOLINE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear causing ADMIRALADY (R Barone) to be checked severely losing considerable ground. He was suspended from riding in races from midnight 29th May 2004 up to and including 12th June 2004.
NORTHERN ROCKET (L Morrison) had to be steadied momentarily approaching the line when OOLINE (C Bryen) drifted out and MIDNIGHT PLEASURE (C Beets) shifted in.

Race 3: CLASS 6 HANDICAP - 1200 metres
Trainer W Baker fined $50.00 failure to lodge amended stable return by required time (LR42(2)).
As the gates opened NO AVAIL (C Pay) and DANCE SALLY DANCE (L Morrison) came together.
At about the 600 metres NO AVAIL (C Pay) was inclined to lay out forcing ERADICATOR (M Barnham) to shift out wider.
An inquiry was opened into an incident on the home turn in which DREAMS OF WEALTH (L Timson) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of NO AVAIL (C Pay) which shifted in marginally. No action taken.


Race 4: 2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1200 metres
OCEANS ELEVEN (M Dale) jumped inwards making heavy contact with GENERAL ARTHUR (C Beets).
MOSS WIN (A Lane) slowly away.
An inquiry was opened in to an incident at about the 1000metre mark in which OCEANS ELEVEN (M Dale) lost ground. Jockey B Rhodes the rider of KELANCE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DON’T LAND (M Evans) which resulted in OCEANS ELEVEN (M Dales) being severely checked. B Rhodes was suspended from riding in races from midnight on the 29th May 2004 up to and including 12th June 2004.
At about the 1100 metres LITTLE MS GORGEOUS (R Goltz) had to be steadied off the heels of GO JACK (D Simmons) which shifted in.

Race 5: QTIS 3YO CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1200 metres
After leaving the 800metres MY DANCING BOY (M Evans) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BRIEF ENCOUNTER (D Simmons) when the pace slackened.

Race 6: OPEN HANDICAP – 1200 metres
TYCOON TED (M Evans) was withdrawn at 3.23pm on veterinary advice after becoming fractious in the barriers and breaking out backwards. A deduction of 3 cents a win and 4 cents a place was ordered and all monies wagered on that horse were refunded.
Stewards were of the opinion that TYCOON TED had been upset by the behavior of another horse and they would monitor his behavior at a jumpout at the request of trainer K Smyth to try the horse with a barrier blanket. Stewards ruled that TYCOON TED to be barred until it shows a major improvement in its barrier manners.
K Smyth the trainer of ASTROFLASH informed Stewards that this horse lost a shoe shortly after the start.
Jockey R Barone the rider of THE FALCON was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of NESSUNO (M Bennett) at approximately the 650metre mark.

Race 7: CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1300m
Stewards questioned Jockey D Johnston the rider of SILVER SAILS regarding his riding tactics on that horse. He stated that his instructions were ‘to ride the horse for luck.’ Stewards adjourned the inquiry to enable Trainer N Mannion to be present.
MAPPERNIQUE (M Rice) jumped inwards.

Race 8: CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1600 metres
Trainer A McMahon advised that WILLY NILLY broke down in the off fore leg.
