Race 1: CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1500m.
1st: KIDLING 2nd: PRINCE QUAY 3rd: DANCING POTTER 4th: NORTHERN SPIRIT
NORTHERN SPIRIT (D Evans) raced ungenerously in the straight.
The track was officially down-graded to DEAD at 12.29pm.
Race 2: MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1500m.
1st: KOKONIE 2nd: KOHAYA 3rd: CLASE BOY 4th: BUNBURY
At the start MIDNIGHT PILL (R McMahon) KOKONIE (M Bennett) and DEXTER’S BOY (D Craven) came together and bumped.
Approaching the 1300 metres BUNBURY (J. Stephens) and BUSHLEY BEAU (R Mules) came together and bumped resulting in BUSHLEY BEAU (R Mules) being awkward on the heels of DEXTER’S BOY (D Craven).
Approaching the 1100 metres DEXTER’S BOY (D Craven) was momentarily crowded by BUNBURY (J Stephens) which shifted in and crowded KOKONIE (M Bennett) which was over-racing resulting in KOKONIE (M Bennett) becoming awkward on the heels of DEXTER’S BOY (D Craven) and when steadied got it’s head up and became unbalanced.
Jockey J Stephens BUNBURY was instructed to exercise more care when in a similar situation.
M Bennett KOKONIE advised Stewards he dropped his whip at the 400 metres.
Race 3: QRSE CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1600m.
1st: DICTATE PLAY 2nd: LINK HOGTHROB 3rd: RAIN KING 4th: WESTON LAKE
Due to constant rain the track was down-graded to SLOW at 1.30pm.
S Quick replaced M Barnham on SEE YOU BABY.
ARCHER BOY (B Hull) and BON SIMONE (G McKeon) were slow to begin and lost ground.
Approaching the 1200 metres ARCHER BOY (B Hull) became awkward on the heels of GILIGULGUL (M Bennett) and shifted out.
Approaching the 700 metres DICTATE PLAY (D Evans) became awkward on the heels of FOB POCKET (J Stephens) and was steadied.
Approaching the 400 metres RAIN KING (R McMahon) lay outwards taking BROWNSVILLE GIRL (D Carrigg) wider on the track.
After straightening BON SIMONE (G McKeon) raced wide on the track.
Race 4: OPEN HANDICAP – 1400m.
1st: HIGHEST POWER 2nd: INCLUSION 3rd: BOOBOO 4th: BRANCH OF GOLD
BRANCH OF GOLD (D Whitmore) was crowded between CRAIGLEA EGO (A Pattilo) and INCLUSION (D Craven) on jumping.
HIGHEST POWER (D Evans) was slow to begin.
Shortly after leaving the 1300 metres ALL ABOUT CLASS (G Booth) began to over-race and became awkward on the heels of INCLUSION (D Craven) and blundered.
Shortly after this INCLUSION (D Craven) raced ungenerously for some distance.
Approaching the 700 metres BRANCH OF GOLD (D Whitmore) which was over-racing became awkward on the heels of ALL ABOUT CLASS (G Booth) which momentarily shifted in resulting in BRANCH OF GOLD (D Whitmore) being checked wider on the track.
Jockey G Booth ALL ABOUT CLASS was instructed to exercise more care in future.
Race 5: QTIS MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1000m.
1st: HANDY HERO 2nd: LUNAROC 3rd: BLAZING TIME 4th: BIG ACE
Approaching the 500 metres LUNAROC (D Evans) which was laying in crowded KAAPTIVATING (J Stephens) onto PADDY GO EASY (G McKeon) which struck the running rail and became unbalanced for a short distance.
Shortly after this BLAZING TIME (M Barnham) momentarily shifted in and crowded LUNAROC (D Evans).
Both jockeys LUNAROC (D Evans) and BLAZING TIME (M Barnham) were instructed to exercise more care in the future.
Jockey G McKeon PADDY GO EASY advised Stewards that his horse slipped near the 600 metres.
A post race veterinary examination of BLAZING TIME (M Barnham) revealed abrasions to the left hind leg.
Race 6: QRSE CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1000m.
1st: LIFE’S FORTUNE 2nd: SOLARUS 3rd: CONSPIRACY 4th: POINTY STICK
SOLARUS (A Pattillo) slipped and became unbalanced in the middle stages and early part of the straight.
LIFE’S FORTUNE (J Stephens) also stated that his mount slipped on several occasions in the straight.
Around the home turn CONSPIRACY (D Evans) slipped behind.
After the running of Race 6 Stewards received a deputation of jockeys in relation to the state of the track.
After taking into consideration the jockeys’ comments and from the Stewards own observations and in the presence of the Club Secretary, Bruce Slattery, Races 7 & 8 were abandoned at 3.42pm.
Race 7: CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1100m.

Trainer D Crouch will be interviewed at a later date as to the reason for his failure to declare riders on LINK HOGTHROB and MOORABBIN OVAL.
