Race 1: QRSE Class 6 Plate - 1500 metres
1st: BIRRONG 2nd: REGAL ASCOT 3rd: CONSPIRACY 4th: WISE THOUGHTS
Due to a misunderstanding GENERAL EAGLE was shown as wearing pacifiers. Stewards acceded to a request by trainer S Jones to race the gelding without pacifiers and the appropriate announcements were made.
POINTY STICK over raced in the early and middle stages and when asked for an effort in the straight failed to run on.
BIRRONG jumped awkwardly and when steadied got its head in air.
DYNAMIC DANCING jumped out coming into contact with GO ON NOW GO causing that horse to be steadied and lose ground.
Approaching the 400m GENERAL EAGLE and PROUD BUCK came together and bumped when GENERAL EAGLE shifted out to obtain clear running.
An enquiry was opened into an incident at about the 100 metres in which FOB POCKET had to be checked from the heels of CONSPIRACY. Stewards determined that as CONSPIRACY shifted in, a slight outward movement from GENERAL EAGLE contributed to the incident. Stewards gave L Fyfe (CONSPIRACY) the benefit of a doubt and issued him with a severe reprimand.
Race 2: Class 2 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st: SET FOR STARDOM 2nd: FLUFFIES REEF 3rd: BROWNSVILLE GIRL 4th: FOUR JACKS
FLUFFIES REEF slowly away.
Approaching the 1000 metres KOHAYA shifted in away from the heels of HARDWOOD FOREST and crowded FLUFFIES REEF, which was steadied. D Green was reprimanded and reminded of his obligations towards fellow riders.
Approaching the 600 metres FLUFFIES REEF shifted out and bumped FLEET STREET.
An enquiry was held into an incident at about the 1000 metres in which LUMINESCENT had to be checked from the heels of BROWNSVILLE GIRL. Lacey Morrison the rider of WOLLEMI was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BROWNSVILLE GIRL which in turn caused LUMINESCENT to be checked. L Morrison was suspended from riding in races from midnight on the 19th March 2005 up to and including 28th March 2005.
Shortly after this incident SET FOR STARDOM began to hang out for some distance placing him awkwardly on the heels of FOUR JACKS.
Race 3: QTIS Maiden Handicap – 1100 metres
1st: AMARZI 2nd: KAPALDO KID 3rd: GENERAL ARTHUR 4th: SPECTAULAR FRISCO
LASTANI was slowly away. Approaching the first turn shifted out taking KAPALDO KID wider. Connections have advised that LASTANI would now be sent for a spell.
KAAPTAN and LADIES EDITION were both slowly away.
AMARZI jumped awkwardly.
During the early stages GENERAL ARTHUR over raced and became awkwardly placed on heels of LITTLEBITDODGY, got its head up and became unbalanced.
Approaching the 300 metres GENERAL ARTHUR was held up for clear running.
About the 300 metres AMARZI shifted out to obtain clear running and brushed KAPALDO KID.
Race 4: Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres
1st: GOLD SPINNER 2nd: BUYING TIME (NZ) 3rd: ANDY’S SHADOW 4th: HE’S ALL SPEED
GOLD SPINNER slow to begin
BISCAFAIR jumped awkwardly and shifted in across the heels of BUYING TIME (NZ) then shifted out bumping MIDNIGHT PILL. Shortly after this MIDNIGHT PILL commenced to over race and was steadied off heels on several occasions.
An enquiry was held into an incident at about the 100 metres in which HIT AND MIST had to be steadied from the heels of BUYING TIME (NZ). Stewards found that BUYING TIME (NZ) had shifted out causing HIT AND MIST to steady however ANDY’S SHADOW, which moved in slightly and had contributed to the incident. L Fyfe, the rider of BUYING TIME (NZ) was directed to exercise more care in future.
Race 5: Class 3 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st: PERUGINE STAR 2nd: GOLD STARS 3rd: MY DANCING BOY 4th: OLD GOLD FOR ME
SHAKESPEARIAN reared as the gates opened losing considerable ground.(3L)
Correct weight was delayed while D Evans (GOLD STARS) viewed the patrol video.
Race 6: 2 YO Classic Set Weights - 1200 metres
1st: PICABELLE 2nd: EVADING 3rd: KING HUNTER 4th: RAPID RUBY
OCEAN HALO became fractious in the barriers and then jumped awkwardly. A warning was placed on OCEAN HALO.
STARRY DANCER jumped awkwardly.
Near the 600 metres EVADING was crowded between PRO’S HERO and STARRY DANCER and steadied.
Nearing the 500 metres OCEAN HALO became awkward on the heels of STARRY DANCER which rolled out.
Race 7: Class 1 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st: SIERRA SLAMMER 2nd: GENERAL INTEREST 3rd: STARTACUS 4th: CHUM
HANDY HERO was scratched by stewards at 4.42pm when that horse refused to load. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on that horse be refunded and a deduction of 16c a win and 14c a place was ordered. Stewards ruled that HANDY HERO trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being allowed to start again.
FOLLOW MY DREAMS jumped awkwardly and shortly after was crowded between BURLEE GIRL and IRONHIDE.
Approaching the 600 metres STARTACUS failed to negotiate the corner when GENERAL INTEREST shifted away from the rail in front of STARTACUS which caused STARTACUS to shift out sharply taking STARVATION, BLAZING TIME and MISS KANOOT wide on the corner.
Race 8: Open Handicap - 1000 metres
1st: SIMPLY THE BEST 2nd: NOD OF APPROVAL 3rd: MURDSA 4th: PAPER KINGS
PAPER KINGS and MIGHTY STRONGHOLD were slow into stride.
MURDSA jumped awkwardly and shortly after became awkwardly placed on the heels of SILVER SWITCH.
Rounding the home turn RECORD TIME hung in and crowded NOD OF APPROVAL despite the riders efforts resulting in NOD OF APPROVAL striking the running rail.
Approaching the winning post MIGHTY STRONGHOLD shifted in when searching for a run which resulted in DREAMS OF WEALTH being momentarily crowded and shortly after DREAMS OF WEALTH was accidentally struck on the head by J P Stanley the rider of DAMASCUS CALLING.
