Race 1: Maiden Handicap - 1400 metres
1st: GOLD TRUCE 2nd: BUYING TIME (NZ) 3rd: FIRE AND FORGET 4th: GO JACK
Race 1 was delayed due to the late arrival or the ambulance.
THUNDERFUL jumped awkwardly, got its head in the air and lost ground.
At about the 100 metres, GOLD TRUCE shifted out when attempting a run, and in doing so, bumped DIFFERENTIAL.
Apprentice L Fyfe (BUYING TIME) was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear, causing THUNDERFUL to be steadied, which in turn, caused GO JACK and FIRE AND FORGET to be steadied from heels at about the 1200 metres
Trainer M Hassam was fined $50 (AR140A) for presenting SPARKLING ASCOT without blinkers.
Race 2: QRSE Class 2 Handicap - 1800 metres
1st: DETONATES 2nd: BROWNSVILLE GIRL 3rd: GIMME SHELTER 4th: LARRIKIN LANCE
At about the 200 metres, LARRIKIN LANCE was unable to obtain a clear run over the concluding stages, and shifted out, making contact with BROWNSVILLE GIRL.
At about the 1200 metres, GOLD STARS shifted out abruptly of its own accord.
KOHAYA was subject to a veterinary examination, which revealed no abnormalities apart from some minor damage to the hind bumpers.
Race 3: QTIS 2yo Handicap – 1300 metres
1st: KING HUNTER 2nd: ROCK THE DAWN 3rd: STARRY DANCER 4th: PREVAILING SPIRIT
MISTER CAV raced wide throughout.
After leaving the 800 metres, PREVAILING SPIRIT steadied off heels, and in doing so, caused ROCK THE DAWN to be steadied off its heels.
In the middle stages of the race, TOTALLY INNOCENT raced greenly and lost ground.
Race 4: Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres
1st: FIRST ECLIPSE 2nd: ZED STREET 3rd: FLIP HOSE 4th: CAWDOR BULLET
KAAPTIVE BOUNTY and PEPPIMENARTI came together at the start, both losing ground.
FIRST ECLIPSE shifted out wide on the home turn.
MUSIC MAKER jumped awkwardly, losing ground.
CLASSITO had to be steadied off the heels of PROVOCATIVE MISS, which compounded badly over the concluding stages. Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of PROVOCATIVE MISS.
The veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near forelimb. Stewards will notify trainer A Stephens that the mare will require a veterinary certificate of soundness before re-nominating.
Race 5: Class 3 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st: BRO 2nd: GREAT GLADIATOR 3rd: HANDY HERO 4th: VICTORY SIREN
VICTORY SIREN was inclined to hang out on the home turn.
GET CARTER jumped awkwardly.
GREAT GLADIATOR jumped out coming into contact with VICTORY SIREN.
Stewards interviewed jockey D Tanti and trainer M Stafford regarding the poor performance of GET CARTER. D Tanti told stewards he felt the horse may have choked down, and recommended to the trainer that he experiment with a tongue-tie. While trainer M Stafford had supported the horse, he was disappointed in the run and may try different riding tactics in the future.
Race 6: Class 1 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st: OUR MR BUZZ 2nd: BUILT LIKE CLINT 3rd: MONTASHKA 4th: KAPALDO KID
RADAR ZONE was scratched at 1.28pm, acting on veterinary advice.
AMBER KING was scratched at 3.08pm, acting on veterinary advice.
On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered deductions of 7cents a win and 8 cents a place of all bets above the line on AMBER KING, and all monies invested on that horse were ordered refunded.
Veterinary examination of AMBER KING revealed soft tissue damage to the upper neck. Trainer K Smyth will be advised that the horse will require a veterinary inspection of soundness before re-nominating.
Stewards enquired into an incident at about the 1000 metres, in which SPONSOR was forced to check off the heels of COP SHOP, which clipped the heels of MONTASHKA, which was in turn, steadying from the heels of KAPALDO KID.
D Tanti, the rider of MIGHTY CLASSY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding (AR137a), in that he shifted in when insufficiently clear of KAPALDO KID, which was taken in onto MONTASHKA, which in turn, shifted in and tightened the running of COP SHOP, which had to be checked, and shifted in onto SPONSOR, which also had to be checked and lose ground. As a result, COP SHOP then shifted out and clipped the heels of MONTASHKA, and blundered. D Tanti was suspended from riding in races from 1/5/05 up to and including the 8/5/05 (7 Meetings).
Race 7: QRSE Class 6 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st: BOURVERIE’S JEST 2nd: TOWN PLAYER 3rd: LADY BREAKFAST 4th: KING OF COMIC
Trainer J Wigginton reported to stewards that he had concerns for the welfare of BOURVERIE’S JEST prior to the race. Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of that horse, which revealed no abnormalities, and at the request of J Wigginton, allowed the horse to start. Routine swab samples were taken from the horse.
At about the 450 metres, LAURISTAN shifted out and bumped LADY BREAKFAST.
Approaching the 250 metres, LAURISTAN had to be steadied from the heels of CRAIGLEA QUEEN, which was under pressure.
Race 8: QTIS Class 4 (3yo & Up) Handicap -1200 metres
1st: MAN OF ILLUSION 2nd: CRAIGLEA WARRIOR 3rd: BRIEF ENCOUNTER 4th: FIRE ANT
MAN OF ILLUSION jumped out at the start, making contact with DELQUILO, then a little further on, shifted out, making contact with KAI CIBO.
GENERAL:
Fluctuation service failed at 1.40pm, and was not available for the rest of the Meeting.
