Race 1: Class 1 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st: REUBENS GOLD 2nd: INSPECTION 3rd COLONIAL BILL 4th: LA TAR
Stewards permitted G Michaels to replace M Dale on PAMELA JEAN, as M Dale was overweight. M Dale was fined $100 under (AR120(b)).
At about the 1000 metres, COP SHOP commenced to over-race, threw its head in the air, and raced ungenerously for some distance.
Leaving the 400 metres, PRIMODORO was held up for clear running behind PAMELA JEAN, who was starting to lose ground. PRIMODORO was improving and struck the heels of PAMELA JEAN causing its rider, apprentice C Pay to become unbalanced, and eventually be dislodged. After being examined by the paramedics, he was cleared to ride for the rest of the day. Stewards enquired into the incident, and found it to be accidental, therefore no action was taken. SANITA was badly inconvenienced in the incident. JONOBLE and RERUN were inconvenienced in the incident.
After a report from rider R Barone, who felt that something was amiss with his mount BRUT, stewards, after consulting with the on-course veterinarian, ordered that the horse be scoped, and that a veterinary clearance be obtained prior to its next start.
On returning to the saddling enclosure, it was discovered that COP SHOP had bled from both nostrils. Under (AR53B) COP SHOP was banned from racing forever.
Race 2: Class 3 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st: DIFFERENTIAL 2nd: BOB’S BID 3rd: LACELINE (NZ) 4th: UNIVERSAL LAD
Leaving the 400 metres, UNIVERSAL LAD was held up for clear running.
At about the 250 metres FORTIFIED and DIFFERENTIAL came together.
Following the race A Best, the rider of FORTIFIED, was unable to remove the saddle from that horse, due to a gear problem. Acting under (AR142), stewards declared correct weight in order to avoid unnecessary delay.
Race 3: Maiden Handicap – 1300 metres
1st GOLD COURT 2nd SMART GREEN 3rd DIE IS CAST 4th INALA SISTERINA
TWO UP jumped out onto SHINKA TAI.
DIE IS CAST jumped out at the start, making contact with KAAPTIVE BOUNTY.
SHINKA TAI raced wide from about the 800-metre mark to the home turn.
At about the 700 metres, KAAPTIVE BOUNTY had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FLIP HOSE, who shifted in marginally.
Approaching the 450 metres, REGAL TUNE shifted out, taking AEROTIC wider on the track.
Race 4: QTIS 2yo Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st: MIRABA 2nd: BEAT THE JUDGE 3rd: STAR VALOUR 4th: MY DIAMOND DAN
MY DIAMOND DAN jumped in at the start, making heavy contact with FLEET THE BONGO.
BASHA FARLEAGA and ELECTRA BLUE were slowly away.
FLEET THE BONGO was forced to race wide from the 800 metres to the home turn.
ROLE OF NED was held up for a run between the 400 and 300 metres.
At about the 450 metres, MIRABA had to be checked off the heels of BEAT THE JUDGE.
J Hoopert, the rider of BEAT THE JUDGE, requested that he be allowed to view the video prior to correct weight being declared. J Hoopert (BEAT THE JUDGE) and D Evans (MIRABA) were permitted to view the video, and no objection was forthcoming.
Stewards conducted an enquiry into an incident leaving the 200 metres. It was found that when being eased out to take a run, MIRABA had ducked out sharply, and despite the best efforts of its rider D Evans, it came into contact with BEAT THE JUDGE, causing that horse to shift out, and come into contact with FLEET THE BONGO. Jockey D Evans was reprimanded by the stewards, and reminded of his responsibilities.
Over the concluding stages, MY DIAMOND DAN shifted in and came into contact with ROLE OF NED, which in turn, shifted in and bumped GUILTY, which came into contact with VONNY THE VIPER.
Jockey M J Stephens (MY DIAMOND DAN) was issued with a severe reprimand.
Race 5: Class 6 Plate (S/W) – 1200 metres
1st: SHE’S DECENT 2nd: STIPEND (NZ) 3rd: SCANDAL PARK 4th DYNAMIC DANCING
STIPEND (NZ) was held up for a run inside ODONATA.
At about the 200 metres, M Bennett (MYCENAE) had to steady when cramped for galloping room between RAINBOW KING and RORY’S NORTH.
Race 6: Class 4 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st: STARTACUS 2nd: BRO 3rd: DOODA HUCKLEBUCK 4th: MONTASHKA
DON PICCOLO jumped awkwardly, losing ground.
FILZAO was slowly away.
STARTACUS fractious in the barriers and was slowly away.
Race 7: Class 2 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st: CINDY KATE 2nd: REVERSE SWEEP 3rd: JOE DIRT 4th: CHECK THAT OUT
After arriving on course from a trip from Thangool, trainer D Powell discovered that LADY ANDIAMO (3rd Emergency), had gained a run due to scratchings. As he had left home in the early hours of the morning, he didnt bring LADY ANDIAMO to the course. Stewards permitted the scratching of that horse at 12pm.
JOFFA’S APPEAL jumped awkwardly, losing ground at the start.
JOE DIRT was held up for clear running from the 300 to the 50 metres.
Race 8: Open Handicap – 1000 metres
1st: ORRONG 2nd: MURDSA 3rd: RECORD TIME 4th: TYCOON TED
STREAM GUL was slowly away.
MOMENTUM jumped in at the start, making contact with MURDSA.
THE FALCON jumped out and bumped PRIDE AND POWER.
Jockey G Booth was warned regarding his use of the whip on STREAM GUL in the early and middle stages. He stated that he had instructions from the trainer to endeavour to improve the horse’s position with use of the whip. He was advised that his action could in some circumstances be deemed as excessive.
GENERAL:
Jockey L Morrison was unable to fulfill her riding engagements due to a race fall at the Grafton racetrack on 14/7/05 – change of riders as per the above schedule.
