General:
From the meeting at Rockhampton 16th August 2005, Trainer A McMahon reported that CINDY KATE had apparently suffered no ill effects from its run. A blood test returned no abnormalities.

BEAUWIN was slow away.
STIPEND (NZ) was slow away.
RED BAY jumped out at the start.
SPOOKYS BEACH over raced in the early to middle stages.
An inquiry was held into the disappointing performance of STIPEND (NZ). Jockey A Best explained that shortly after the start he was trapped wide and unable to secure cover when the pace slackened and his horse pulled its way to the lead. Owners’ representative Mr N Jensen explained that the horse needed to have cover in a fast run race for it to have any chance. He believed that the slow pace in the early and middle stages contributed to its defeat.

RAPID RUBY travelled wide throughout.
EXCEPTIONS shifted out over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the poor performance of MAIZY DAYS, Jockey S Watkin could offer no excuse. Stewards ordered a vet inspection of that horse. The veterinary surgeon reported no abnormalities.

Race 3 Class 3 Plate (S/W) – 1100 metres
1st Joe Dirt 2nd Deadly Clang 3rd Reverse Sweep 4th Town Ball
Typographical error in race book PARIS MAIZ S Watlin should have been S Watkin
GEEBUSH was slow away.
PARIS MAIZ jumped awkwardly losing ground.
Approaching the 800metre mark PUNTERS REWARD tended to over race and became awkwardly placed on the heels of JOE DIRT when that horse steadied in front.
Approaching the 800metre mark DEADLY CLANG was over racing and had to be steadied from the heels of JOE DIRT.

Race 4 Class 1 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st Crossing 2nd Regal Rebound 3rd Sadler’s Rhythm 4th Brut
TIPSY MCSTAGGER was slow away.
BRUT slow away.
KOMATIPOORT jumped out on to BRUT.
Stewards inquired into the poor performance of TIPSY MCSTAGGER. When D Evans asked the horse for an effort approaching the home turn it commenced a forward move but had to be steadied from the heels of INALA SISTERINA. Stewards ordered a vet examination. The veterinary surgeon reported no abnormalities.
BRUT was held up for clear running over the concluding stages.

Race 5 Class 4 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st Silver Sail 2nd Corriente 3rd Gee Gee MacGregor 4th Bay of Plenty
GEE GEE MACGREGOR over raced in the early and middle stages.
CORRIENTE failed to show any early pace.
DON PICCOLO pulled up sore. A veterinary surgeon reported a ruptured suspensory ligament in the off fore.

Race 6 Maiden Handicap – 1600 metres
1st Leverage 2nd Ebony Edge 3rd Bunbury 4th Aprimadonna (NZ)
EBONY EDGE jumped out on to SARRY KAN
SARRY KAN jumped out on to BUNBURY
COVER IT UP was slow away.
GOLDEN SHEEN over raced in the middle stages.
Over the concluding stages EBONY EDGE shifted out and hampered TWO UP.

Race 7 Class 2 Handicap – 1600 metres
1st Royal Reform 2nd Native Knight 3rd Reubens Gold 4th Scarlet Sari
EQUITANT jumped out making heavy contact with OUR JIM BEAU (NZ) that in turn was forced out on to ROYAL REFORM.
EQUITANT compounded badly over the concluding stages. Jockey R Barone stated that he felt the horse might have choked down, as it appeared to be gasping for air as it pulled up. A veterinary inspection revealed no abnormalities.

Race 8 Open Handicap – 1400 metres

STREAM GUL was slow into stride.
