Race 1: BRYANT’S BUILDING SUPPLIES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1070M.
1st – LAZLO 2nd – VADUZ 3rd – SUBSEQUENCE 4th – BEAT THE RUSH
Both BEAT THE RUSH (L Timson) and ERROL STREET (C Beets) were slow to begin.
LAZLO (App L Dillon) began awkwardly losing ground.
SHADES OF COURAGE (S Quick) jumped in at the start making contact with SUBSEQUENCE (N Evans).
Approaching the 800m STRATH VALLEY (D Johnston) shifted in despite the efforts of its rider causing ONLY A FLING (D Whitmore) to shift in forcing MATERIAL MISS (App D Carrigg) in onto the hind quarters of SUBSEQUENCE (N Evans), which inturn shifted in placing MAROCKET (App C McIver) in restricted room and as of a result had to be steadied, and shifted out and became awkward on the heels of SUBSEQUENCE and lost ground.
STRATH VALLEY (D Johnston) which raced ungenerously throughout the race shifted out near the 400m and then near the 300m shifted in abruptly and had to be steadied off the heels of SHADES OF COURAGE (S Quick), shortly after the saddle of STRATH VALLEY slipped placing its rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.
N Evans, the rider of SUBSEQUENCE, found guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approximately near the 400m he directed his mount out when insufficiently clear of MATERIAL MISS (App D Carrigg) which had to be checked, and shifted out inconveniencing BEAT THE RUSH (L Timson) which had to be restrained as a result.
N Evans, licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of three meetings (Capricornia & North Queensland combined) to commence at midnight Wednesday 30th August 2006, up to and including midnight Friday, 8th September 2006.
Apprentice D Carrigg, the rider of MATERIAL MISS, was fined the sum of $100.00 under AR92(12) for failing to claim down to her declared riding weight.
Race 2: R & T HEALTH FUND MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M.
1st – YOUDIDNTSEEME 2nd – BUDGET BOOSTER 3rd – JUST LIKE SEAGAL 4th – LEED
Both BUDGET BOOSTER (App A Coome) and YOUDIDNTSEEME (W Morris) were slow to begin.
After being slow to begin, BEE ORIE (D Whitmore) then raced wide throughout the race.
Shortly after the start TARIQ’S BLUFF (App D Carrigg) and MATT’S PRIDE (J Stephens) were tightened for room between LEED (S Quick) and JUST LIKE SEAGAL (M Evans) which hung out for a short distance, TARIQ’S BLUFF lost ground as a result.
KAAPERINA (M Cant) was tightened for room near the 250m between BUDGET BOOSTER (App A Coome) which lay in under pressure and LEED (S Quick) which shifted out and became unbalanced making heavy contact with KAAPERINA. A short distance later KAAPERINA had to be steadied when crowded for room by BUDGET BOOSTER which continued to shift in. App A Coome, the rider of BUDGET BOOSTER and S Quick, the rider LEED were advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
MR TOXIC (App L Dillon) and KAAPERINA (M Cant) both raced wide throughout the event.
Leaving the 400m MAROCKET (App C McIver) shifted out to obtain clear running, then continued to shift out under pressure over the concluding stages.
KAAPERINA (M Cant) hung out for the majority of the race.
R Barone, the trainer of BEE ORIE reported to stewards following the event that the gelding was stepping short in front. A post race veterinary examination of BEE ORIE revealed the horse to be sore in its off fore limb, R Barone, was advised he must produce a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to the horses next start.
Race 3: QR NATIONAL CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M.
1st – DRAWBAA 2nd – MY DIAMOND DAN 3rd – DANGER SIGN 4th – SEND A CHEERIO
SEND A CHEERIO (App A Coome) jumped out at the start making contact with DRAWBAA (N Evans).
Approaching the 900m, SEND A CHEERIO (App A Coome) commenced to over race for a short distance.
DANGER SIGN (App C McIver) lay in leaving the 400m until the winning post.
GARRINCHA (M Cant) raced wide throughout the race.
Race 4: QR CUP OPEN H’CAP – 1400M.
1st – MYCENAE 2nd – TYCOON TED 3rd – CEE JAY TEE 4th – PIMPALA PLAYER
MYCENAE (M Barnham) and CEE JAY TEE (N Evans) both began awkwardly.
Race 5: DEAL MAKERS CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1500M.
1st – BATTLE JACKET 2nd – DRESS CODE 3rd – CLEAR INTENT 4th – MISHAEL
Both MIDNIGHT GIN (M Cant) and BATTLE JACKET (L Timson) were slow to begin.
When racing in restricted room near the 900m, REUBENS GOLD (App L Dillon) made contact with the inside running rail and shifted out forcing DRESS CODE (App A Coome) out onto the hind quarters of ADELONG (J Stephens) which shifted in slightly when racing to the inside of the heels of CLEAR INTENT (App D Carrigg) which shifted in slightly when being steadied, causing both ADELONG and DRESS CODE to become unbalanced. Apprentice D Carrigg, the rider of CLEAR INTENT was reprimanded and advised to show more care when shifting ground.
On returning to scale a protest was lodged by apprentice D Carrigg, the rider of third placegetter, CLEAR INTENT, against DRESS CODE (App A Coome) being declared second, alleging interference near the 100m. It was established that near the 100m, CLEAR INTENT (App D Carrigg) shifted out making contact with MISHAEL (S Quick), shortly after DRESS CODE (App A Coome) shifted out under pressure making heavy contact with CLEAR INTENT, and continued to do so for a short distance forcing that runner out, further inconveniencing MISHAEL which had to be steadied off the heels of BATTLE JACKET (L Timson) which shifted in slightly. Given the degree of interference and the margin between both horses at the finish, stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the semaphored numbers.
At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice A Coome, the rider of DRESS CODE, was severely reprimanded and advised to make greater effort to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances.
DRESS CODE lost both front plates during the race.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
