Race 1: MARK BUNT MENSWEAR QTIS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Cocky Lad 2nd – Guilty Conscience 3rd – Mighty Malouver 4th – Blue Peregrine
SILBURY HILL (R. Hall), CRAIGLEA PURSUIT (G. Baker) and ONE HUNDRED WATTS (M. Cant) were all slow to begin.
COCKY LAD (D. Missen) began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with OTSELET (S. Evans).
OTSELET raced wide during the early and middle stages of the event.
DUAL ECHELON (N. Day) was inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight.
Apprentice T. Bannon was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 350m she directed her mount BLUE PEREGINE out around the heels of MIGHTY MALOUVER (D. Evans) when being insufficiently clear of COCKY LAD (D. Missen) resulting in COCKY LAD having to be steadied and shift out to avoid the heels of BLUE PEREGINE. In this incident GUILT CONSCIENCE (C. Whiteley) which was following COCKY LAD was also hampered. T. Bannon’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 8 meetings to commence at midnight Tuesday 12th August 2008 and to expire at midnight Thursday 21st August 2008.
RUN THE RAPIDS (C. Beets) and MIGHTY MALOUVER (D. Evans) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: XXXX BITTER CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Stipulation 2nd – Martiros 3rd – Fault Line 4th – Nine Covers
FAULT LINE (C. Whiteley) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with NINE COVERS (R. Kerwin).
NINE COVERS had a tendency to hang in under pressure over the final 200m.
BROOKFIELD BOY (J. Stephens), CYCLONE GEORGE (K. Pedron) and WESTERN MAIL (L. Dillon) all raced wide throughout.
Race 3: XXXX GOLD CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Let It Hail 2nd – Snifter 3rd – Degenda 4th – Stuff Up
OOPS SORRY which became fractious in the barriers was declared a late withdrawal at 1.57pm by the order of Stewards acting on veterinary advice. Stewards ordered all monies invested on OOPS SORRY to be refunded with all successful wagers less the deductions of 6c on the face value of the win ticket and 8c on the face value of the place ticket. Trainer B. Challacombe was advised that OOPS SORRY must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to that mare’s next race start.
DEGENDA (R. Kerwin) was slow to begin.
Near the 450m DEGENDA (R. Kerwin) became unbalanced when racing in restricted room to the inside of STUFF UP (D. Missen).
From leaving the 300m DEGENDA (R. Kerwin) was held up for clear running until near 150m.
STUFF UP raced wide throughout.
D. Missen was reprimanded for careless riding in that he allowed STUFF UP to shift in after passing the winning post resulting in KING KANAWA (K. Pedron) having to be checked.
Race 4: TRAVELODGE ROCKHAMPTON CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Best of Ceedee 2nd – Instil 3rd – Donald Victor 4th – Runatun
INSTIL (M. Paget) under went a pre race veterinary examination by the request of its rider and was passed fit to start.
Trainer J. Wigginton was advised that an official warning would be placed against the barrier manners of DONALD VICTOR which proved difficult to load.
At the start CRIQUE (N. Day), INSTIL (M. Paget) and ALL THAT CASH (L. Dillon) were all tightened on jumping away between PEDRO’S OPINION (R. Kerwin) and REAF SHAR BAYE (D. Hayes) which began awkwardly and shifted out.
MERDEX (J. Stephens) began awkwardly.
Near the 1100m RUNATUN (D. Evans) commenced to over race and from near the 800m until passing the 500m had to be continually steadied from the heels of BEST OF CEEDEE.
CRIQUE (N. Day) was inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 5: ROCKY FEED AND SEED CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Hardly a Game 2nd – Royal Counsel 3rd – Clandestine Caper 4th – Crevaux
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer R. Walsh for the late declaration of S. Evans on VODASHOW.
At start MR DEEJAY (M. Paget) began awkwardly forcing VESTA (L. Dillon), CALL ME GUNYA (G. Baker) and SWORD OF HONOUR (C. Beets) wider.
SEA OF KNOWLEDGE (J. Stephens) began awkwardly.
LEED (D. Evans) and YOU OME ONE (M. Cant) were tightened for room between SEA OF KNOWLEDGE (J. Stephens) and VODASHOW (S. Evans) which shifted out
CLANDESTINE CAPER (N. Day) and HARDLY A GAME (D. Hayse) bumped on jumping away.
ROYAL COUNSEL (C. Whiteley) commenced to over race during the early and middle stages of the event.
SWORD OF HONOUR (C. Beets), SEA OF KNOWLEDGE (J. Stephens), MR DEEJAY (M. Paget and ROYAL COUNSEL (C. Whiteley) all raced wide throughout.
CREVAUX (D. Missen) was held up for clear running for the early part of the straight and near the 300m shifted to the inside of SWORD OF HONOUR (C. Beets) to obtain clear running and in doing so hampered MISTER CAV (T. Bannon).
Near the 200m SWORD OF HONOUR (C. Beets) raced in restricted room between HARDLY A GAME (D. Hayse) and ROYAL COUNSEL (C. Whiteley) which shifted in slightly.
Race 6: LACEY’S TJM 4X4 MEGASTORE OPEN H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Tenzero 2nd – Tycoon Ted 3rd – Final Demand 4th – Dangerous Host
HIGHEST POWER (R. Hall) and TYCOON TED (A. Coome) was slow to begin.
DANGEROUS HOST (M. Cant) over raced during the early and middle stages.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of JACK AND ICE jockey C. Whiteley stated that he placed his mount under pressure from entering the straight however the gelding failed to respond to his hard riding. He further stated that in his opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination of JACK AND ICE revealed the gelding to be showing signs of choking down due to the discolouration of the gelding’s tongue.
Race 7: COCA-COLA AMATIL (R’TON) PTY LTD CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1600M
1st – Prince Joshua 2nd – Barwon River 3rd – Sleekuponem 4th – Spin Twins
SLEEKUPONEM (A. Coome) was held up for clear running between IGOTITFROMMYMUMMA (T. Bannon) and BOLD BID (M. Cant) from passing the 600m and near the 400m shifted out around the heels of IGOTITFROMMYMUMMA to obtain clear running.
WALKING ON FIRE (C. Whiteley) had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the straight.
RAVISSEUR (D. Hayse) raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the performance of WALKING ON FIRE jockey C. Whiteley stated that his instructions were to push forward, however after only beginning fairly he settled further back in the field then he had anticipated. He further stated that he was unable to obtaining clear running in the home straight and as a result he was unable to test his mount at any stage. Stewards noted his explanation. A post race veterinary examination of WALKING ON FIRE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
When questioned regarding the performance of DEXTRUS which weakened over the concluding stages, trainer P. Zimmerlie stated that he was disappointed with gelding’s performance and it was now his intention to send the gelding for a spell. A post race veterinary examination of DEXTRUS failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 8: BACARDI LION CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1600M
1st – Massiah 2nd – Three Kings 3rd – Rose with Attitude 4th – Tat’s Piano
TIGHT (M. Paget) and LIGHT SOUTHERLY (T. Bannon) were slow to begin
RUN AND GUN (A. Coome) began awkwardly.
Approaching the 1100m LIGHT SOUTHERLY (T. Bannon) which was racing very ungenerously was continually steadied from the heels of TAT’S PIANO (N. Day) until approaching the 800m.
