Supplementary report

As R. Kerwin was indisposed, and D. Carrigg had been stood down by stewards, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Mackay 19/3/09: Trainer John Manzelmann was today found guilty of a charge under AR 178(E) in that at the above meeting he presented SKYDECK, SECRET SENSATION, TWO JACKS, MINI VIEW, SUPER SHADOW, DIAGRAM and SWEET OPINION to race after they had all had been medicated on race day. Mr Manzelmann was subsequently fined the sum of $1000.

Race 1: Amstel Class 1 H’cap - 1800m
Ist Our Mr Cashman 2nd Craiglea Hummer 3rd Toptwo 4th - Get That Indya

RED ESSENCE was declared a late scratching at 7.57 am due to a clerical error.

VIVA ROCKVEGAS (R. Hall) and TOPTWO (A. Pattillo) were slow to begin.

Near the 700m, GET THAT INDYA (D. Simmons) had to be steadied when tightening for room by CRAIGLEA HUMMER (G.Baker), which shifted in.

TOP TWO (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.

L. Dillon, rider of BOLD GREY, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A in that he used excessive whip on a horse out of contention. L. Dillon was fined the sum of $100.

A post race veterinary examination of SEREN DEE (A. Coome), which hung out from the 600m and tailed off, revealed the horse to be sore in both forelegs. Trainer J. Rundle was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for SERENDEE and that the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.





Race 2: Castemaine Perkins QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap - 1100m
Ist Rubin Jane 2nd Monsoon Reign 3rd Williamsburg 4th - Dubaione

TAIMTEER (A. Coome) jumped away awkwardly and overraced during the early stages.

Approaching the 800m, WILLIAMSBURG (B.Stewart), after being momentarily tightened for room to the inside of CANIVORTHRILL (J. Stephens), shifted in of its own accord, causing MONSOON REIGN (G. Baker) to be tightened for room and checked.

Leaving the 800m, BOSS HOG (D. Evans), which was inclined to overrace, was tightened for room to the inside of DUBAIONE (L. Dillon), which was taken in by SHY BUCK (A. Butler). A. Butler, rider of SHY BUCK, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

After passing the 700m, WILLIAMSBURG commenced to hang out, causing SHY BUCK to be checked. TAIMTEER, which was following, was also forced to steady in this incident. Mr J. Wigginton, trainer of WILLIAMSBURG, was advised that a warning would be placed on that gelding.

MONSOON REIGN (G. Baker) was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

RAVENON (N. Patchett) raced wide throughout.

Race 3: XXX Bitter Maiden H’cap - 1300m
Ist Cannyclimb 2nd Rovert 3rd Carry The Clubs 4th - Craiglea Falcon

SOLAR ROAN was declared a late scratching at 1.34 pm on veterinary advice, with no deductions to betting. Trainer C. Dore was advised that she must provide a veterinary clearance for SOLAR ROAN prior to the filly’s next race start.

RUN THE RAPIDS (A. Butler) broke through the barriers prior to the start, however the horse was quickly restrained, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

FIRST NIGHTFEVER (C. Whiteley) jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.

FIRST NIGHT FEVER overraced during the early stages of the event and then commenced to hang from the 800m onwards.

FIRST NIGHT FEVER shifted out abruptly near the 300m, making heavy contact with ROVERT (B. Stewart).

Race 4: Ted Platinum Class 1 H’cap - 1200m
Ist Desert Patrol 2nd Gol 3rd Truthful 4th - Nuclearous

ARKANA SON, which reared up in the barriers and became cast, was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.15 pm. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on ARKANA SON were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets applicable. Connections were advised they most produce a veterinary clearance and provide a barrier certificate for ARKANA SON prior to its next race start.

The connections of CURRENT EVENT, which proved difficult to load, were advised that a warning was being placed on that gelding.

PURO SANGUE (G. Baker) jumped away awkwardly, making heaving contact with TRUTHFUL (A. Pattillo), which in turn was taken in on to CASH CONTENDER (A. Coome), causing that horse to be checked.

LAILUI (D. Evans) was slow to begin.


Race 5: Tooheys Extra Dry Class 6 Plate - 1000m
Ist All I Need 2nd Gold Freeze 3rd Brakspear 4th - I’ma Note

RAVISSEUR (R. Hall) was slow to begin.

STAR THEATRE (D. Green) stood flatfooted as the start was effected. Connections were advised that a barrier certificate would be required prior to the horse’s next race start

GOLD FREEZE (D. Simmons) jumped away awkwardly.

After passing the winning post on the first occasion, WALKING ON FIRE (C. Whiteley) commenced to overrace after being steadied when tightened for room between PERICOLO (A. Pattillo), which shifted out, and IMA NOTE (B. Stewart), which shifted in. WALKING ON FIRE continued to overrace until leaving the 1200m.

RAVISSEUR overraced during the middle stages and was steadied from heels approaching the 800m.


Race 6: Heineken Class 2 H’cap - 1000m
Ist Wal’s Boy 2nd Degenda 3rd Manila Warrior 4th - Refuhrence

GRANDE VARGUE (A. Coome), ORPEN LOVE (N. Patchett), FRESNO BEE (R. Hall) and REGAL ACCLAIM (A. Butler) were slow to begin.

REFUHRENCE (S. Watkin), FRESNO BEE and WAL’S BOYS all overraced during the middle stages.

WAL’S BOY was momentarily held up shortly after entering the straight.

ORPEN LOVE, LAUNDROMAT (L. Dillon) and REGAL ACCLAIM raced wide throughout.


Race 7: XXXX Gold Open H’cap - 1400m
Ist Danzamonkey 2nd Montserrat 3rd Kalinga County 4th - Innocent Harry

Stewards accepted the explanation put forward by Trainer W. Pomfrett and Jockey J. Stephens as to why Jockey Stephens had been duly engaged to ride ROCK OF MUFASA and THE BIG EASY. Subsequently, Jockey S. Watkin was replaced as the rider of THE BIG EASY.

VICTORY SIREN (A. Butler) and THE BIG EASY (S. Watkin) were both slow to begin.

At the start, KING’S CHAMP (A. Taylor) was severely tightened for room between DANWANA (L. Dillon) and RAPT IN SILVER (T. Bannon), which was taken in by ROCK OF MUFASA (J. Stephens). In this incident, apprentice A. Taylor was almost dislodged from KING’S CHAMP.

Over the concluding stages, RAPT IN SILVER (T. Bannon), which had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 300m onwards, was further disappointed for a run between DANWANA and ROLE OF NED (D. Green), which was taken out by ROCK OF MUFASA. Jockey J. Stephens, rider of ROCK OF MUFASA, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

VICTORY SIREN, THE BIG EASY, and JACK AND ICE (D. Simmons) raced wide throughout.


Race 8: Hahn Premium Light Class 4 H’cap - 1600m
Ist Swat 2nd Telefire 3rd Rangefire 4th - Dignity Prince

Leaving the 1000m, PACIFIC SEA (L. Dillon) became awkward and made heavy contact with the running rail when tightened for room by MASSIAH (G. Baker), which shifted in. Jockey G. Baker was reprimanded for this incident.

RANGEFIRE (D. Green) and LEICA LAUNCH (B. Stewart) were slow to begin.

During the early stages, DIGNITY PRINCE (T. Bannon) and MASSIAH were both inclined to overrace and near the 1100m, DIGNITY PRINCE shifted out and had to be steadied from the heels of MASSIAH.

RANGE FIRE was held up on a number of occasions from the 500m onwards.

SPIRIT OF OAMARU (R.Hall) and DINI WHO (A. Butler) raced wide throughout.
