Late Riding Changes:
As Jockey D. Simmons was indisposed and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Raceday Summary.
Race 1: Capricorn Rewind Electrical Service QTIS 600 2YO Handicap – 1100 metres
1st – LAYLA 2nd BRADBURY’S FORTUNE 3rd RED HUSSERATI 4th - ANABEER
Trainer J. Rundle was advised that a warning had been placed on the manners of LAYLA, which was fractious during its preliminary.
The start was delayed when RED LION LASS (App. C. McIver) had to be re-saddled behind the barriers. Trainer Mr F. Collings was fined $100 for negligence in saddling.
The start was further delayed when KICKDAHABIT (App A Taylor) proved difficult to load into the barriers.
At the start BRADBURY’S FORTUNE (M. Radecker) was tightened for room between ANABEER (M. Stephens) and RED HUSSERATI (App. R. Hinricks), which began awkwardly and shifted out.
Shortly after the start, I’M COOL TOO (S. Sheargold) shifted in and made contact with RED LION LASS (App. C. McIver). At approximately the 900 metres, I’M TOO COOL TOO attempted to buck and lost ground. Trainer J Pointon was advised that the filly would be required to trial to the Stewards satisfaction prior to its next race start.
Near the 900 metres PHOEBE FOR ME (A. Erhart) was momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of VAULT BREAKER (S. Evans), which shifted in.
In the early and middle stages LAYLA (T. O’Hara) raced greenly.
Near the 300 metres MARAUDING HILL (P. Randall) shifted out abruptly.
RED HUSSERATI (App. R. Hinricks), KICKDAHABIT (App. A. Taylor) and BRADBURY’S FORTUNE (M. Radecker) all raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: Daniels Surgical & Health Equipment Pty Ltd Open Handicap- 1600 metres
1st – FORADE 2nd TELFIRE 3rd COCKAIGNE 4th - CAPTAIN BIGGLES
After arriving behind the barriers FORTY EIGHT CRASH (P. Randall) was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon. Acting on his advice that the mare was unfit to start, stewards ordered the withdrawal of FORTY EIGHT CRASH at 1.00 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on FORTY EIGHT CRASH be refunded in full and that all successful bets made with bookmakers be subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of tickets: win 9¢, place 10¢. Trainer J. Pointon was advised that he must supply a veterinary clearance of soundness prior to the horse being permitted to race or trial again.
FLYING TEST (D. Green) was slow to begin.
LINK HOGTHROB (T. Bannon) began awkwardly and shifted in, inconveniencing TELFIRE (L. Dillon) which lost some ground.
In the early stages FORADE (App. R. Hinricks) over-raced.
From leaving the 600 metres until near the 400 metres CAPTAIN BIGGLES (D. Missen) had difficulty when attempting a narrow run to the inside of MASSIAH (D. Whitmore).
Race 3: O’Mara’s Camper Trailers Maiden Handicap - 970 metres
1st – TOPTWO 2nd KEGNEY 3rd WINCHMORE LASS 4th - CALVALE ROAD
The start was delayed when CALVALE ROAD (L. Dillon) was difficult to load. Trainer Mr P. Pengelly explained that the gelding had previously experienced difficulties when being loaded into the barriers and he undertook to continue working on the problem. After hearing submissions from the Starter, Mr M. Henderson, stewards advised trainer Pengelly that, in view of the circumstances, a warning has been placed on CALVALE ROAD, however should the horse perform in a similar manner in the near future; further action may be taken against it.
LAURELLE (A. Coome) and CALVALE ROAD (L. Dillon) began awkwardly.
HELLUVADUSTSTORM (App. C. McIver) was slow to begin.
At the start GYPSY STORM (D. Green) shifted out and made contact with I AM NOT AN ANIMAL (P. Randall).
Rounding the home turn LAURELLE (A. Coome) hung out, forcing KEGNEY (B. Hull) wider.
In the home straight I AM NOT AN ANIMAL (P. Randall) raced greenly and near the 300 metres shifted out abruptly.
CALVALE ROAD (L. Dillon) shifted out under pressure in the straight.
ON NO (S. Sheargold) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 4: Harvey Norman Computers Open Handicap - 970 metres
1st – CLASSY CRYSTAL 2nd KING HUNTER 3rd ONE EYED 4th – SYMATINA
DON HERNANDO was a late scratching, at 10.05 a.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.
At the start ONE EYED (App. K.Mizobe) jumped inwards and made contact with FINAL DEMAND (App. A. Taylor).
CLASSY CRYSTAL (L. Dillon) was slow to begin.
FLEET THE BONGO (C. Whiteley) raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination of VULCAN (D. Missen) revealed that the gelding was lame in the off fore fetlock. Trainer Mr W. Pomfrett was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance before the horse will be permitted to race or trial again.
Race 5: Dynamic Security & Electrical Class 2 Handicap - 970 metres
1st FLEET ‘N’ FAST 2nd MISS MULLEY 3rd MONETITE 4th - COLLATERAL BLUES
At the start RUN THE RAPIDS (L. Dillon) shifted in and made contact with MONETITE (R. Hall).
COLLATERAL BLUES (M. Radecker) was slow to begin.
From the 500 metres until leaving the 400 metres FLEET ‘N’ FAST (App. R. Hinricks) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
HORSE TORQUE (S. Evans), MUNDI GULLY (D. Whitmore) and MISS JOBURG (M. Cullen) raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned about the seemingly disappointing performance of MUNDI GULLY, Jockey D. Whitmore explained that the colt never felt comfortable throughout the event and when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was disappointing. Trainer Ms J. Green stated that because of the recent inclement weather she had been unable to work the horse as she would have liked leading up to today’s race, however was satisfied with the horse’s condition today. Ms Green added that she believed that MUNDI GULLY would benefit from today’s outing and she undertook to inform the stewards should anything that may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance become apparent in the next 48 hours. A post-race veterinary examination of MUNDI GULLY did not reveal any abnormalities.
Following the running of this race, at 3.06 p.m., the track rating was downgraded to a Dead (4).
Race 6: XXXX Gold Class 3 Handicap - 1800 metres
1st DANDY KAT 2nd THE REHEARSAL 3rd TWO JACKS 4th - SIR van TEES
MATAMORE (C. Whiteley), DANDY KAT (B. Hull) and TWO JACKS (T. Bannon) were slow to begin.
From the 600 metres until leaving the 400 metres, DANDY KAT (B. Hull) had difficulty obtaining clear running.
Jockey B. Hull, the rider of DANDY KAT, pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R.137A (5) in that prior to the 100 metres he struck his mount in excess of five occasions. Jockey Hull was fined $200.
A post-race veterinary examination of SHEER OPULENCE (App. C. McIver) revealed that the mare had injured its near fore flexor tendon. Trainer Mr D. Gardiner informed stewards that he intended to retire the mare from racing. Nevertheless, Mr Gardiner was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for the mare prior to it being permitted to race again.
Race 7: Roadtest Class 5 Handicap- 1400 metres
1st CALYPSO MOON 2nd HEZABURRABOY 3rd GUILTY CONSCIENCE 4th - MANDS BOND
CALYPSO MOON (C. Whiteley) and JERRYLEE (App. C. McIver) were slow to begin.
SWORD OF HONOUR (L. Dillon) began awkwardly.
GUILTY CONSCIENCE (M. Radecker) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 8: Milner Constructions Pty Ltd Class 3 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st ROVERT 2nd INTANGIBLE ASSET 3rd HE’S WISE 4th - BEAT THE BULLSEYE
As the start was effected SAIONJI (App. K. Cross) bounded in the air, shifted in and made contact with ROVERT (K. Mizobe).
ALL ROYAL (R. Hall) and RAINBOW RAIDER (T. O’Hara) were slow to begin.
Shortly after the start ORPEN PRINCESS (D. Green) attempted to buck. Trainer Ms K. Price was advised that ORPEN PRINCESS must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to being permitted to race again.
ALL ROYAL (R. Hall) and BEAT THE BULLSEYE (M. Radecker) raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination of RAINBOW RAIDER (T.O’Hara), which tailed off throughout the event, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Ms K. Price was advised that the gelding must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in a trial of at least 800 metres before being permitted to race. Ms Price was also advised to inform stewards should anything that may have affected the horse’s performance be apparent in the days following the event.
