MACKAY TURF CLUB SATURDAY 3rd APRIL 2010

Race 5
Trainer W. Pomfrett was questioned as to the apparent change of racing pattern exhibited by MIUCCIA after the mare settled in a forward position which was in contrast to its most recent races where the mare had settled at the rear of the field. Mr Pomfrett stated that since putting the blinkers on MIUCCIA, three starts previous, his instructions had always been to go forward on the mare, however for various reasons MIUCCIA had settled near the rear of the field on each of the occasions. Mr Pomfrett was reminded of his obligations under AR 135A that should he instruct a rider to ride a horse in contrast to that horse’s most recent pattern of racing, notwithstanding if the horse’s most recent pattern of racing was pursuant to his instructions or not, the stewards must be informed of such instructions so a public announcement can be made.

Trainer S. Kendrick advised that CLEAR CONSCIENCE had pulled up somewhat tired and lethargic after its run and as a result would be sent for a spell.

She said that though KILANTE ran on reasonably well, nevertheless in her opinion the horse was disappointing. Trainer Mr T. Hess stated that he was very disappointed with the performance of KILANTE as it had been well supported by connections and a forward showing was anticipated. He said that he had expected the horse to race in a more forward position, particularly with the added gear of blinkers and a tongue tie in today’s event. Mr Hess added that the gelding had pulled up well following the event and he was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. He undertook to inform stewards should anything that may have affected the horse’s performance come to his attention in the days following the event. A post-race veterinary examination of KILANTE did not reveal any significant abnormalities.

He said that at its most recent start the horse had shown a tendency hang and that he was disappointed with today’s performance.
