1st CUFFLINK 2nd FOUND A TREASURE 3rd JUST READY 4th – RAY JOAN
FOUND A TREASURE (N. Patchett) and LIBERTY’S MAGIC (App. M. Hellyer) were slow to begin.
OXFORD TOWN (App. K. Cross) and SHADOW THROWER (D. Tanti) began awkwardly and bumped.
Passing the 800 metres CHICAMONI (A. Coome), which was racing in a three-wide position, hung out, forcing both OXFORD TOWN (App. K. Cross) and JUST READY (A. Pattillo) wider on the track. OXFORD TOWN and JUST READY raced wide thereafter.
Approaching the 600 metres FOUND A TREASURE (N. Patchett) improved onto the heels of CUFFLINK (App. A. Taylor) and had to be steadied. IMMA BE (J. Stephens), which was following, was forced to check from the heels of FOUND A TREASURE and lost significant ground. Following this incident FOUND A TREASURE was held up for clear running until leaving the 200 metres.
Approaching the 150 metres FOUND A TREASURE (N. Patchett) shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so hampered ROYAL SON (M. Usher) and LIBERTY’S MAGIC (M. Hellyer), which had to be steadied. Jockey N. Patchett was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.
Apprentice K. Cross pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R.137(b) in that she failed to ride OXFORD TOWN out to the finish. Apprentice Cross was fined $200.

Race 3: McKeagues Surveying Consultants Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap - 1050 metres
1st – AMANDA’S DREAM 2nd DELARGO SCENE 3rd ELLE DANSAIT 4th - KBENGAL
TWO TAIMZ TWICE (D. Philpot), MY LIONESS (App. M. Hellyer), DELARGO SCENE (App. J. Kropp) and MISS VALHALLA (M. Usher) were all slow to begin.
Near the 800 metres TWO TAIMZ TWICE (D. Philpot) hung out and had to be steadied away from the heels of EDGEROI DIXIE (App. C. Pye), which shifted out and hampered TEAANNA LASS (J. Stephens).
TEAANNA LASS (J. Stephens) and ROCK D’OR (N. Patchett) raced wide throughout.
Stewards asked Apprentice M. Hellyer to comment on the performance of MY LIONESS, which raced below market expectations. App. Hellyer stated that the mare did not travel well at any stage and in the home straight was inclined to hang in under pressure. App. Hellyer attributed this to the mare not being entirely suited by the distance of today’s race and the horse failing to handle the firm track conditions. Trainer J. Pointon agreed with the comments of Apprentice Hellyer and gave an undertaking to report to the stewards if he became aware of anything that may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance
Race 4: N.G Gardiner & Associates QTIS Three Years Old Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – KILWINNING OPTION 2nd CRAIGLEA COBRA 3rd MASSURI 4th - SPOTTED EAGLE
KILWINNING OPTION (App. K. Cross) began awkwardly and lost ground.
At the start MASSURI (A. Coome) lost ground when tightened for room between BJORN WARRIOR (D. Tanti) and CRAIGLEA COBRA (A. Pattillo), which shifted in.
Apprentice C. Pye was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that at the 1000 metres she allowed BAGABOB to shift in when not sufficiently clear of SPOTTED EAGLE (App. J. Kropp), which was taken in onto the rightful running of CRAIGLEA COBRA (A. Pattillo), which was tightened onto the hindquarters of BJORN WARRIOR (D. Tanti) and as a result was forced to relinquish its position. Apprentice Pye was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 meetings, to commence at midnight on 15th September 2011, up to and including midnight on 20th September.
App. K. Cross pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 900 metres she permitted KILWINNING OPTION to shift in when not sufficiently clear of CRAIGLEA HARMONY (App. A. Taylor), which wass tightened for room and had to be checked. Shortly after this incident CRAIGLEA HARMONY hung out and raced wide for the remainder of the event. Apprentice Cross was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 Capricornia meetings, to commence at midnight on 15th September 2011, up to and including midnight on 22nd September 2011.
A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA HARMONY (App. A. Taylor) did not reveal any abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of BJORN WARRIOR (D. Tanti), which finished tailed off, revealed that the horse was stepping short in front. Trainer M. Attard will be interviewed regarding the matter.
Race 5 The Rock Building Society Class 3 Handicap - 1500 metres
1st – MARICOPA 2nd CRAIGLEA GAL 3rd CRAIGLEA SHERRY 4th – SEQUIZ
DONOSTIA was a late scratching, at 12.45 p.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. Trainer G. Philpot was advised that he must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to DONOSTIA being permitted to race again. No betting deductions were required.
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer C. Tasker for the late declaration of App. J. Kropp as the rider of DON’T CALL ME BRUCE.
CRAIGLEA SHERRY (A. Pattillo) was slow to begin.
Leaving the 400 metres MARICOPA (App. M. Hellyer), which had been held up and unable to obtain clear running, shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with CRAIGLEA GAL (App. A. Taylor), which became unbalanced.
Approaching the 200 metres MARICOPA (App. M. Hellyer) had difficulty obtaining clear running and was shifted out to improve.
DON’T CALL ME BRUCE (App. J. Kropp) raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey S. Sheargold the rider of CHECKER CHAMP, for the reason the horse performed below market expectations. Jockey Sheargold stated that it had not been his intention to lead, as the horse is more inclined to settle in its races when able to obtain cover. Jockey Sheargold added that when he was unable to gain cover CHECKER CHAMP over-raced in the early and middle stages and in his opinion this had a detrimental effect on the horse’s overall performance. Trainer S. Finn agreed with Jockey Sheargold’s comments and gave an undertaking to advise stewards if anything was amiss with CHECKER CHAMP in the days following the event.
