As Jockey C. Whiteley was delayed arriving on course, Jockey N. Patchett was substituted as the rider of CRAIGLEA TURBO.

Prior to the start ONE FOR ME (S. Sheargold) and HOLD THAT THOUGHT (A. Pattillo) were fractious in the barriers.

After being placed in the barriers ONE FOR ME (S. Sheargold) was extremely fractious and attempted to get down in the barrier. ONE FOR ME was removed and examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon, who advised that the filly had sustained a significant injury to its jaw. Acting on this advice stewards ordered the scratching of ONE FOR ME at 12.27 p.m. and the following deductions were declared:

1st: CRAIGLEA TEQUILA 0¢ the win
1¢ the place
2nd: CRAIGLEA VANCE 1¢ the place
3rd: CRAIGLEA MANDY 2¢ the place

Trainer L. Rowe was advised that ONE FOR ME must perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and that he must also provide a veterinary clearance for ONE FOR ME prior to its next race start.

CRAIGLEA RELOAD (A. Coome) was slow to begin.

Near the 500 metres and again at the 300 metres FOUR BELLS (D. Tanti) shifted out and hampered CRAIGLEA TURBO. Jockey Tanti reported that the filly was inclined to shift ground and he had suggested to the connections the addition of blinkers to the horse's racing gear for its next start.

HOLD THAT THOUGHT (A. Pattillo) and CRAIGLEA TURBO raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned Jockey A. Coome regarding the uncompetitive performance of CRAIGLEA RELOAD. Jockey Coome stated that CRAIGLEA RELOAD had commenced to lose ground near the 900 metres and had failed to stretch out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA RELOAD did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer P. Fleming will be advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

BOTH (App. A. Taylor) and MARAUDING HILL (D. Tanti) were a little slow to begin.

At the start PESAMINO (A. Coome) and THREE FINGERS (N. Patchett) made contact.

Near the 500 metres BOTH (App. A. Taylor) was held up and unable to obtain clear running, and when shifted out to improve leaving the 400 metres bumped SPEED MAGICIAN.

1st LIGHTFEET LADY 2nd WEST GINDIAN 3rd LAMBERT 4th - FANCIFUL

A pre-race veterinary examination of SIR ECHO (D. Tanti), which was returning from a lengthy spell, cleared the gelding to take its place in the field.

On jumping FANCIFUL (R. Wiggins) bounded in the air, began awkwardly and lost ground. Trainer L. Rowe advised stewards that he was his intention to trial the mare with the use of a barrier blanket and to further experiment with its gear prior to the horse's next race start.

Prior to the start DIABLE (App. J. Kropp) lunged at the barrier gate.

STAR OF MINTO (T. O'Hara) began awkwardly and in the middle stages was inclined to lay in.

LAMBERT (A. Lane) began awkwardly.

Stewards afforded jockey R. Wiggins the opportunity to explain the performance of FANCIFUL. Jockey Wiggins stated that after missing the start he was able to place the mare in its customary racing position and when able to obtain clear running to the inside he elected to follow the eventual winner through and FANCIFUL finished the race off well.

Race 6: Parkhurst Tavern Class 3 Plate - 970 metres
1st IMPALA 2nd DON'T YOU WORRY 3rd CRAIGLEA FIGHTER 4th - ARRESTED FOR SPEED

ANABEER was a late scratching, at 11.58 a.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.

At the start DON'T YOU WORRY (D. Missen) shifted in and bumped SAVAGE HEMLINE (N. Patchett).

Near the 800 metres GAMBLE IN GOLD (C. Whiteley) was steadied from the heels of DON'T YOU WORRY (D. Missen), shifted ground and bumped IMPALA (A. Coome).

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey S. Sheargold as to the performance of HALLOWED PEARL. Jockey Sheargold stated that the filly was unable to muster any early pace and when placed under pressure near the 400 metres failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination of HALLOWED PEARL did not reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer L. Rowe reported that he would seek further chiropractic treatment for the filly and would also give consideration to sending HALLOWED PEARL for a further spell.

Race 7: Travelodge Rockhampton Class 2 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st HERITAGE STAR 2nd LIBERTY TYCOON 3rd FRANKIE ME BOY 4th - BEAUX STRATA

Trainer T. Cook advised stewards that BLAZING LION would be ridden back in the field from its wide barrier. Public announcements were made to that effect and the gelding was ridden accordingly.

At the start STIGORI (C. Whiteley) jumped out onto DAMN GOOD IDEA (App. C. Pye).

Shortly after the start MINUS ONE (S. Sheargold) was tightened for room between IRIANA STYLE (D. Tanti) and DANE KING (T. Bannon) and had to be steadied.

In the middle stages NORDIC WARRIOR (T. O'Hara) was inclined to lay out.

Approaching the 600 metres STIGORI (C. Whiteley) laid in behind RYTARGA (S. McGovern) for a short distance.

For the majority of the race DANE KING (T. Bannon) raced three wide without cover.

IRIANA STYLE (D. Tanti) raced wide throughout.

When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of HERITAGE STAR (L. Dillon), trainer W. Pomfrett stated that at its most recent start; over 1000 metres at Emerald, the horse got further back in the field than expected. Mr Pomfrett said that today he had instructed Jockey L Dillon to take up a forward position from its wide barrier and he was of the opinion that the horse had appreciated the extra distance of today's event.

Race 8: XXXX Gold Open Handicap - 1400 metres
1st TWO TONE 2nd BEAUTIFUL TIMING 3rd CANNYCLIMB 4th - CRAIGLEA BLONDIE

Trainer J. Brown informed stewards that EASY CASH (App. A. Taylor) would take up a forward position if possible. Public announcements were made to that effect. Apprentice Taylor rode the horse to progress forward in the early stages however was only able to obtain a midfield position.

CANNYCLIMB (App. C Pye) bounded in the air on jumping

IN REHEARSAL (D. Missen) was slow to begin.

Jockey D. Tanti, the rider of FORADE, reported that he lost his nearside iron on jumping and was able to regain it shortly after the start.

SOBEIT (S. McGovern) raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned Jockey S. Sheargold and trainer N. Boyle regarding the tactics adopted on TWO TONE, and also as to the apparent improved performance of the gelding. Jockey Sheargold stated that he was instructed that if the gelding began well he should place the gelding in a forward position, and when TWO TONE jumped well, he rode forward and while he had intended to obtain cover, he was aware that CRAIGLEA BLONDIE (App. J. Kropp) had steadied and therefore he elected to assume the lead. Mr Boyle stated that due to the perceived lack of pace in the event he had instructed Jockey Sheargold to ride forward and take up a handy position with cover if possible. As to the improved performance of TWO TONE, Mr Boyle noted that at its most recent start the gelding suffered interference and had been galloped on. Mr Boyle was of the opinion that the gelding appreciated the step up in distance for today's event and added that the stable had not supported TWO TONE on this occasion.
